Nomenclature

Those in the replica/counterfeit wristwatch business call the non-genuine watches "replicas", but only if there's a chance of lawyers or law enforcement overhearing. Otherwise, the watches are called "fakes". Well, that's for English speakers; I don't know the Cantonese or Mandarin equivalents.

Examples, possibly illegitimate: http://www.replica-rolex.co/submariner_rolex-watches.html

As to the appearance of the fake in question, any departures form the Real Thing are either intentional or will be quickly corrected.

Ignoring the fact that Hyperdon had its own R&D man hours in the development of their watch, market prices are based on demand and supply more so than on the sunk costs of production.

If you don't understand the basic economics of pricing, I'd suggest you refrain yourself from making ridiculous comments about it.

The other poster is correct. You are wrong. His comment is insightful and intelligent and yours is ridiculous, explaining why his comment was voted up so many times.

Your ignorance about the costs of designing, prototyping, testing, and marketing are stunning. Not to mention the fact that you somehow missed the fact that this blatant copy is only skin-deep; it can't actually do what an actual iWatch can.

I find it more shocking that something like this can be presented and bought at the CES. It's obviously an Apple Watch counterfeit differentiated only in name at this point. I'm sure it will be marketed as a genuine Apple Watch in the very near future, if not already. Just look at the picture below, they're clearly aiming for an resemblance to Apple's product. That the CES allows this means they ostensibly support the creation of counterfeit consumer products.

Correct, all these so called smart watches don't hold the candle to the Swiss watch designs.
There is way too much focus on the health & fitness FAD on all of these.
Personally, I can't understand it.
How about introducing a smart watch that is a WATCH without all this fitness & health crap...

Two words: Pebble Steel

That worked out pretty well a few years back for all the mobile phone companies that introduced new PHONES without all the browser, music and app cr*p... not.

Actually, believe it or not, those kinds of phones are still being sold.

Which one? I'd pay for the clone for a fun toy to wind people up with, but the real deal? I'd buy a container ship, convert it into a house and live in it in our back garden before I paid Apple silly ££ for a WATCH. I'd buy a Rolex first - you know - A REAL WATCH that has value.

The world of low life copycats survives because there're people like you who don't have respect for hard works. Next time, tell your parents to go for health check up at a unlicensed practitioner instead of a certified doctor who charges 20x more.

Samsung has a booth so I guess they don't mind so much about that sort of thing... ;)

That's real gansta of them to do. Lol. But this rip off proves the iwatch will be an overpriced product.

Yes, the 2015 Apple Watch will be overpriced but if a company could build an iPhone knockoff for under $100 would that meant the 6 is overpriced at a $649 unlocked price? Nope. Still a lot of research and development to take into consideration.

It's not that serious for you to compare a quality gadget (that's going to obsolete in a year) to quality healthcare.

A knock iwatch isn't going to kill you. But a knockoff doctor is.

Samsung has at least enough original design of their own to make the counterfeit claim a less compelling one. They observe and mimic, but they have ideas of their own, albeit bad ones occasionally.

Why is it an embarrassment? Because a company has managed to produce the product for $25 that Apple will be charging 20 x that for?

not only it looks exactly same as Apple Watch.

it only costs 1/15 what Apple wants to gouge you for. AND the battery life is 10 times what Apple can do.

Let's be honest, this is probably made in the same factory that's producing AppleWatch.

it's okay, I don't particularly like the look of Applewatch either, but I wouldn't go as far as saying it makes me sick

Members "kingofwale" and "G4DP" if you REALLY believe that this crappy knockoff compares in any way to the real Apple Watch, I've got some Rolex's I'd like to sell you for $27 dollars. lol

Let's be honest, you are so far off you may never find your way back again.

While a counterfeit Apple Watch might not, there are ample examples of counterfeit products than can pose a danger to consumers. Think of cheap chargers that might cause a fire, knives or gadgets that need to undergo rigorous testing and are subject to safety regulations. When these are sold on the market unlawfully, they can be dangerous.

For 25 bucks, am I the only one who wants to get one, just simply to tide me over until the :apple:Watch is released??

Might be kind of fun to make an issue about getting an early Apple Watch from Tim Cook as a joke.

The screen doesn't extend to the edge and looks washed out, so I will pass on this as a joke purchase.

It is complete embarassment for CES to allow such a ripoff product to be presented at the event. It like allowing fake Ferraries to be presented at big motor show. This is madness and a complete lack of shame. These chinease manufacurers are below any business standards and they should be prosecuted and puted in jail. Stealing intelectual property is like stealing any other type of property and should be condemned by the whole industry. Im shcoked not from the existance of this produc but from seeing it at big consumer electronics event which mean that the level of acceptance of such business practice is too damn high.

Oh, you think Apple is immune from selling broken or unsafe machinery?

https://www.apple.com/support/exchange_repair/

The above mentions only the active recalls. It doesn't mention some of the older Apple products known for their fire hazards, like the Powerbook 5300 and the Mac Plus; I had one of each.

You'll be less shocked once you understand that CES cares only about money and publicity and doesn't give a toss about business ethics.

Do you really believe that 180 hours claim?

still looks better than the iwatch;)

How so?

Yeah I'm not surprised this exists but how does it end up at CES? Why shoul I take CES seriously when the allow booths like this?

Did you eat your pills today? How can you compare an e-gadget to healthcare?

Yeah, nice sarcasm. But actually both (the original and this copycat) looks like *****.

For me, this is a nice looking watch:

The ironic thing about the term "smart watch" is that the watch itself is only as smart as the phone with which is it paired, and without that device... well, it's not that smart a purchase OR a device, AT ALL.

What's with this incessant, obsessive "need" to be constantly fed with an uninterrupted stream of meetings, updates, twittlings, ****tlings and bobblings from the great (anti)"social" obsessives? I put my phone out of sight AND hand, in my room when we have guests, and it misses as many "urgent" notifications as I couldn't give two hoots about, and my attention span and quality of life is all the better for it.

Save your money, this crap is the ruination of friendships and focus on REAL LIFE.
