Glad to know I'm not crazy 😅.

I've noticed this on several apps on my iPhone 11 running iOS 13. One particularly frustrating one is adding an exchange account for work that requires to use the authenticator app to verify before adding. When I switch to the authenticator app and back to the safari web view, the whole thing is blank every time like iOS has reclaimed the memory.

Messages also loves to do it as well. I'm hoping as you all are that it gets solved.. I think these phones have enough RAM for that not to happen.

In my experience, iOS 13 has been a turd so far. tvOS 13 has also been a turd. I still on macOS 10.13, and probably will stay there for a while, so can’t comment on 10.15.

But to be fair, I have been having what appears to be RAM related issues on my SE since iOS 12.

Although, it has gotten worse on iOS 13.

Same on my Xs Max and I HATE it. I copy something from let’s say notes to put it into a text field on Safari only for the freaking browser to reload and the previously prepared text to be gone

Safari tab reloading has been one of the longer term issues and has become a "check" for each beta update.
It has gotten worse for a number of us "testers" since 13.2 B1.

Personally I do not feel / see this as a RAM quantity issue, though more would help, rather as a parameter issue or whatever method Apple is using to determine when to "kill" an active app. On my XS Max and IPP 11 I am experiencing this "feature" with both 3rd party and Apple stock apps. 😕

I am glad this issue has got some proper air time on macrumors and elsewhere.

iPhone 11 Pro Max feels like a toy with pretty much all the apps just get out of memory straight away. With iOS 13.2 when I move between 2 open apps one of them manages to refresh. Overall though - RAM management sucked ass even on all iOS 13 versions.

My mother complained to me that Youtube always "starts fresh" whenever she gets back to it.

I feel like as if pretty much all Apple iOS and iPadOS device are heavily lacking RAM when using them, including 2018 1TB iPad Pro with 6GB of it.

This is would be laughable if it would not be so sad, especially hearing all these "RAM does not matter" comments every once in a while.

Good Point. The pro models should have at least 8GB of RAM. Long story short, the Pro model is Pro in name only.

13.2 is a **** show for this.

Open Amazon app, search for an item. Leave to send a message, go back into Amazon and it’s totally closed.

Horrible.

This is a major reason why iPads can’t be relied on for work. You never know when something will get closed or reloaded. It’s not true multitasking.

Heck I’ll be reading a webpage and it reloads midway through an article. Probably a bug.

When they conserve battery people complain about performance, when they don’t conserve battery people complain about battery.

I notice this all the time with Overcast. I'll pause a podcast for just a few minutes, while I go in a coffee shop to grab something, and by the time I get out and am ready to resume playing, the background task has been killed, and I have to open up the app to start the podcast again.

I noticed it too, but not only in 13.2, but since iPadOS 13.0/13.1 betas. I have iPad Pro 9.7 and I often switch between Safari and YouTube app. Since iOS 13 it's almost impossible to pause a YT video, switch to Safari, use Safari for more than 3 minutes and then switch back to paused YT video. It always opens YT app as it was previously closed. And about 80% of the time I'm doing nothing more than using Safari / YT app. It was fine on iOS12.

Aah! I thought it was me, but apparently it's all of us. I must say that i noticed this happening more frequently on my 2018 iPad than on my iPhone 8 Plus but it is indeed noticeable that apps are closed/reloaded more often. I remember that Apple promised that iOS13 would open app 2x faster, is this at the cost of memory use?

Is this why my navigation keeps resetting in car play? I restarted the phone and my head unit but navigation keeps resetting after a few minutes. This is using google maps in carplay and navigating a preset location for home. This has only happened with the latest update.

It's very-likely intentional, & part of Apple's strategy to try to get more to upgrade to one of the new 3.7-3.8 GB DRAM 2019 iPhones !

WRT iPhones, ONLY the XS, XS Max, & the three 2019 iPhones have a sufficient amount of DRAM to completely circumvent the issue.

I would suggest otherwise. There are a number of us in beta testing that have these devices and are experiencing this issue. From long before 13.2 PR.

XS Max, IPP 11

Careful - you're going to make Tim's mouth salivate as you come around to buying a new phone for $1k+ :p

You can leave now honestly..

The stories from inside Apple that people like Marco Arment report (check his twitter) don't indicate that Apple (at the top) are even really concerned about the software quality problems, let alone consider them the dumpster fire they are.

Thank you MacRumors, for giving us voice towards this issues that Apple doesn’t take seriously enough. Or, I don’t know, maybe they thought it could be a good way to sell New iPads with more RAM in the future...

By the way, you could add the issue with smart zoom on the article. I’m sure it’s been reported and nobody does nothing about it.

IMHO, Apple won't do any course correction until it hurts the bottom line. This would require AppleTV+ to be a disaster and significant drop in iPhone orders. Bottom Line....Apple needs another rough period that they experienced in the 1990s.

To add on....Apple would have failed without Steve Jobs coming back in the late 1990s. And maybe Apple should have failed. If Apple can only survive with a Jobs like character, then it's not a company that can survive leadership transition.

I noticed this on my 11 Pro and iPad Pro. YouTube and some games closing way too fast. Didn’t know it was widespread.
Yeah seeing more on my 12.9 iPad pro, not noticing on my 11 Pro Max much if any

Yes, it's definitely more aggressive. It's really annoying. For example I'm using Duolingo and when I'm almost done with a lesson I need to respond to a iMessage and when I go back to Duolingo the whole app restarts and I need to start again. I'm using an iPhone 11 Pro

I noticed this once on my iPhone but just thought it was a one-time thing.

Wow good it made the main page!!!

I’m really regretting my upgrade on my 7 from 12.4.1 to this!!!

They need to give safari higher priority again for staying in memory. Hopefully 13.2.1-13.2.2 will be out soon with a fix! Super annoying to have safari reload so often now!!!!!

Good to know it’s not just me. I’ve noticed that Safari has frequently been killed even if I keep it open but lock the phone. 13.1 and before when I’d unlock it Safari would still be there. Most of the time in 13.2 when I unlock it I’m back at the home screen and the Safari process has clearly been killed because open tabs have to reload.

This is wild I’ve been dealing with this for weeks on the beta without thinking about it. It’s a killer for two factor where I open an app for a challenge then come back and the page reloads. Been using my Apple Watch.

This is a crappy bug because it’s something on the backend like Exchange still not syncing properly and doing proper push. Not going to hold my breath on a quick fix.
