The other reason for me thinking this is that O2 have known about the 3g for months, it was shown on the WWDC 16 days ago and they've been holding out on the PAYG pricing for a while, so for it just to "slip out" at the last minute is a bit far fetched for me!

Come on O2, pull your finger out, people are getting restless! (i even got bored last week and found myself looking on the blackberry page!!)

I agree its a ploy to create more "buzz".

Its not like a junior member of their web team was messing with something, as uploading the new page to the live O2 site is a pretty major thing to do.

Lets face it, were on page 8 of this rumour thanks to the taking away of the O2 pricing page (plus the original excitement of the pricing i suppose!)

Not meaning to digress, but do you realise that colouring every post differently is hard to read, annoying, and not cool? ;)

Screen Shot Pay & Go Prices

Hey,

Just noticied I had left open my O2 Pay Go tab from last night. So for those who didn't see the page here it is. May be useful for someone....

from what I can tell, yes, if I was to buy an iPhone and spend ~£20 a month on top ups for 18 months, I would save £60 over the contract, but gain alot less. I use around 200 mins+ and at 25p/min thats £50. Then include £10 a month for data after 6 months for a year. So I would end up paying alot more for what I use, so a £35 contract for me is the best option.

Actually it's 5p/min. The 25p only counts for the first 3 minutes per day.

At around 200 minutes you're close to the breakeven point on the £30/mo tariff, and way below the £35/mo tariff - and that doesn't include the extras eg. if you're topping up £10/mo (which you would be after 6 months to cover the data tariff) you can get 50 off peak minutes.

(basically the breakeven point is about £12/mo (~200 minutes) if you're keeping the phone for 18 months, and £23/mo (~400 minutes) if you're keeping it for 12 months, compared to the £30/mo contract).

Of course it all depends on your phone usage - if you're making a lot of mobile-mobile calls you soon use up more than that and the equation changes somewhat. You'd have to run the numbers based on your typical usage to work out the figures. SMS changes the numbers somewhat as well...

Someone should make a spreadsheet or a website where you punch in your usage figures and it comes out with the costs for each option.

Yes please! Big kudos to anyone who does. I cant work out which is cheapest for my use.

Well if they are the next post will be a direct comparison. I am beginning to wonder if the new iPhone is going to be the massive hit they all thought.

I'd also really love some of you to comment on site or add the RSS feed to your reader if at all possible ?

Perhaps the most shameless "boost my ad revenue please" plug I've seen for a while. ;)

i bet when the prices become live again they'll be more expensive.

A lot of that page was just a copy/paste of their PayG pricing structure.. I can't see that changing. The only things that are likely to vary are the cost of the phone itself and the 6 month free data deal.

I hope they keep it the same.. it makes my choice really easy :p

cross network calls are 25p though, and thats what I mainly call. Not everyone I know is on 02.

landlanes account for maybe 20/30 mins of my calls?

The deal with the tariffs is they are the 'in store' ones and are the same as any other O2 PAYG tariff.

You can upgrade the sim card to the O2 online tariff at any time, which is an arguably better option...not sure how the free data would be affected though
