its a pandemic
The COVID-19 viral disease that has swept into at least 114 countries and killed more than 4,000 people is now officially a pandemic, the World Health Organization announced Wednesday.

"This is the first pandemic caused by coronavirus," said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Eight countries — including the U.S. — are now each reporting more than 1,000 cases of COVID-19, caused by the virus that has infected more than 120,000 people worldwide

I like how it took them weeks to just use a term, to then just blame whoever is actually taking some form of action. Hypocrisy at its best.

The WHO is "deeply concerned, both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction" by world leaders in response to the outbreak, Tedros said.

I unfortunately have to admit that anxiety is getting to me. When I went into healthcare, I knew I was signing up to deal with some nasty sh*t and that something "nasty" would happen some day. But with all the new procedures at work, all of the cross training to cover department shortages, the mile-long list of other prep work we are doing, and all of the extra precautions we have to take because we currently have cases in our hospital...what the f**k is this thing and what the hell did I get myself into?!?

My inner child is pretty much yelling "make it stop", and this damn thing is just getting started.

“Denmark's Prime Minister has announced that the country will close all kindergartens, schools and universities for two weeks to slow the spread of the coronavirus virus.
All public sector employees who do not perform critical functions will also be sent home on paid leave.
This will have huge consequences, but the alternative would be far worse," Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said at a press conference announcing the tough new measures on Wednesday evening”

I wouldn't start freaking out. As far as I understand it, as long as you're not really young or old, are in at least decent health, and don't have any underlying condition that would affect your body's ability to fight off the virus, even if you do manage to contract it you'll most likely just need to take it easy for a bit and then you'll be fine.

So, I for one say - thank god there are extra pre-cautions coming online for our healthcare workers. Aside the fact that we all hope for others' well being, the one thing I can think of that can make this problem even worse is our healthcare workers and our emergency response people getting infected en masse.

Follow procedure, as a health care person, wear your mask, wash your hands. How old are you?

696 confirmed cases on cruise ships o_O
I bet cruise prices are at a record low right now.
My guess is there are deals out there if the cruises have not been outright cancelled. 🤔

This is probably the question that all heroes ask themselves once in a while. Keep your head up, WE need people like you.
/sarcasm/ Is it frowned upon for nurses to throw up at work? Because if not, I have 20 minutes left in my lunch break to get that out of the way 🤢 Might help me feel better 😂

Listening to Prime Minister Conte of Italy. Basically all of Italy stops. Exceptions are pharmacies and grocery stores. Some essential factories will be able to keep working provided they can guarantee certain safety.
He expects #'s to get worse.

there is not a lot of official Coronavirus information in the US
i read a semi clinical article.
It was of the opinion that the virus spreads at home. So if a parent gets the virus it will spread throughout the house quick. If you have grandparents living with you this situation could be deadly.

I recommend reading https://www.reddit.com/r/coronavirus. If you just want to compare between what's happening in each country vs your state. There are also subs on some major states and the whole US.

The sub gives you a broader perspective on how each country handles the infection and it helps you prepare for upcoming challenges since some countries in Europe are way ahead.

"Restiamo distanti oggi per abbracciarci domani"

Let's keep a distance today to be able to hug each other tomorrow
