Restaurants, bars, and day cares all closed now in Kentucky as of 5:00PM today. Case count is up to 21 as of 9:00AM EDT with one full recovery and, unfortunately, one death reported.

In all honesty, I'm a bit mixed on closing day cares. While I understand that they are most likely a human petri dish under the best of circumstances, they are also offering a valuable service for children whose parents aren't able to work from home.

I'm at work today for what will likely be the last time for several weeks. It's pretty empty here, with people mostly just trying to wrap things up and get out.

So much happened to fast last week in terms of containment measures that I'm a bit afraid of what this week will bring. Still, though, I understand the necessity, and hope that in a few weeks we can return to some semblence of normal.

Honestly, if it were as deadly it would probably be easier to isolate. The problem is healthy people are walking around shedding this thing.

Did you read about that German study that caught up with a group of people within hours of them being (mildly) symptomatic? They found 1000x the viral load of the SARS virus already present.

Yup, I really really like my six feet of distance these days and it's not just because I'm an introvert.

I don't really see any "panic" and I don't see any reporting that's "hyping" things

I think it's a good time for everyone to remember the social psychology principle called the "Fundamental Attribution Error."

When I see someone else do something I don't like, it's because that's just who they are. If I do the same, it's because there's a reason and not because I wanted to do it.

I think even the best amongst us have made this error one or twice in the past few weeks.

The nasty part of this vi
I'm just staggered at how fast things changed. 3-4 months ago, I would have never imagined this.

Lets hope its a once off and will disappear in a few months. If it surfaced again in a different form i think the world will collapse.

Seriously wet market in Asian and Africa must be banned .

It's starting to look like New York City is the next hot spot. I thought it'd be Washington for sure. There are unconfirmed Twitter reports of ERs filling up with people with flu-like illnesses.

Just want to add I appreciate how thorough you are with you’re links posted, sourced docs/info, actual understanding of the outbreak, and overall credibility as a member who remains consistent with the context of points you address. And not just in this thread, but on front page article comments as well. Props.

Dave Rubin does a Q&A with Dr. Amesh Adalja about the coronavirus. Answers some practical day-to-day questions. Hope it helps.

I know no one will believe me but guys last January i told my wife i have this feeling something drastic will happen in 2020. 💀☠👻👾👹👿

this is why WE ALL should be trying to slow down the spreading of this virus. no country is properly prepared for this kind of an impact and I see that slowly, too slowly other countries are getting scared and are beginning to do something about it

Please be safe

Here, just in my neighbourhood in Milan, North Italy, they started to disinfect the streets ..

rough times, please be safe and follow the rules, even before they become rules

now I know who to blame .. ;)

who cares about city streets but
there is no definitive answer how long the coronavirus remains active on regular surfaces.

between several hours and a couple of days, depending on the surface

It most certainly is.

One step at a time.

For now our main concern is our health, the health of our loved ones, the health of our elderlies.

One million jobs expected to go, this is way too big for a government to handle. Mortgages will be fortified and many will lose their homes.

In Italy, mortage payments are being suspended for those in need

other countries will adopt similar measures

please, do not worry about the (bleak) economic future now

there is much more at stake right now, right in front of us

we will get over it

but first of all we need to get out of it alive and healthy

AMC and Regal closing all movie theaters for up to 12 weeks (4 months). So much for all the summer blockbusters. It feels like the only thing we have to look forward to is the summer Olympics. And, it seems like its only a matter of time before that goes bye bye.

Now days you have to think twice before coughing especially in public transport or elevator 🤢

lol (sorry I am laughing, that might seem inappropriate in the circumstances)

I was using public transport in Milan until last week (and most certainly will be continuing to use it starting next week ...)

nobody was talking and everyone was like holding their breath

one cough from one single person - and everyone's eyes were on'em!

like - HE'S THE INFECTED ONE! (grabbing stones and knives)

we all will grow some kind of social paranoia thanks to that little f*****
