Infections just surpassed 205 000 around the world. This thing doesn't respect any borders. I am surprised how it managed to slip this far without detection?

What is scaring me is what China is doing. I don't believe for a second that they magically contained it, while at the same time they're kicking western journalists out.

Since 7Mar, if my math is correct, a 1800% increase in reported cases in the US.

Good morning people, I know the virus is serious but laughter is the best medicine .

Yeah, the reports from China don't make any sense.
I suppose it‘s possible that draconian measures have slowed the virus significantly there. I wonder if there are any reports of manufacturing slowdowns there, or is it full steam ahead?

Beware the virus can reside in the air for hours ...

Ok this is alarming if we are going from water droplets from a sneeze falling to the ground, versus being airborne 3 hours later. There is a difference between existing in the air versus remaining airborne. I could not tell from the narration if this is what was reported exactly or an assumption was made. My impression is this has not been substantiated yet. 😬

I truly hope that Dr. Fauci will write a book about this ordeal.

Lombardy (Italy) is on the brink of collapse
(from CNN)

Italian official warns "soon" they won't be able to assist those who get sick

From CNN’s Sharon Braithwaite in London
Gov. Attilio Fontana of Lombardy, Italy, made another appeal to the people: "You must not go out, you have to stay at home."
"Unfortunately the numbers of the contagion are not decreasing, they continue to be high. Soon we will not be able to give an answer to those who get sick," the governor said.
Fontana then made a plea to Lombardy citizens.
"We are asking you to make a sacrifice in order to save lives. Every time you leave home it's s a risk for you and others," said Fontana, adding that if people continue not to comply with the restriction he will ask the government to implement "even stricter measures," the governor said.

47 cases in Kentucky, with 2 deaths and 2 full recoveries.

Here's a graph from the local media, which does two things-first of all it plots the data in a way that I've been meaning to do but haven't had the time(trying to figure out the whole working from home thing and the fact that even a lightened workload seems to take me 3x as long). Specifically, it's looking at per capita cases, which to me is a logical way to do it.

In any case, these graphs shows two good things. First of all, Kentucky is conducting more tests per capita than any other neighboring state other than Illinois. Second and perhaps more importantly, Kentucky and Ohio, both of which moved quickly to take more extreme measures toward social distancing, seem to be "flattening the curve" better than other neighboring states(leaving WV out, as they were the last state in the country to see confirmed cases).

The news today about malaria drugs showing good results is promising.

As a second point, though, today's numbers are showing that Italy is not yet "over the hump" with the numbers of new cases still increasing on a daily basis(over 5K new today, vs. 4.2K yesterday).

Wow. Seems California is Setting the precedent with the necessary ‘lockdown’. I know there’s rumored talk about curfew times in my state, but I don’t think the extreme cases have pushed the situation far enough for that to occur quite yet.

Is it possible to sue China over thousands & thousands human toll, billions or trillions financial loss and other? I know its not the right time to say this but i think gross negligence is contributed to this mess we are in now and its affecting every person around the Globe.

The impact is too massive to pass on without holding someone responsible.

That is really inappropriate and a bit daft. You can't just sue people because some virus started there, outbreaks of new virus have started all over the world and with travel being so easy, they spread easy. There are things that could have been done better, but no you are not entitled to money.

So do you think its reasonable to say nothing and watch or held those who responsible accountable?

China was warned repeatedly by different world organisations re wet market and extremely poor hygiene/cruelty conditions.

Those who said nothing and watched, those responsible are your own governments, your chief medical advisors, your disease control advisors, your friends and colleagues who watched people dying on the streets and took no action. They are responsible. They need to be held accountable.

Mistrust of China bred complacency. Who in their right mind would think that China overstated their deaths? Why would they want to understate their infections, with the end result of making it look like they couldn't save an even higher proportion of their people? Events in Italy highlighted the downright lunacy of refusing to trust Chinese numbers and downplaying it.

The world was warned. China, fortunately for those in China, found a solution. Other countries ignored that solution. The information was there for the taking. Governments ignored it. Your friends and family ignored it. Now people are dying. Who knows if those responsible will be among them?
