Apple Should implement "jail breakers not allowed"

as a warning sign just like in-App message before you buy it...so that way..people don't have to buy them and the businesses will fall rapidly.

Most "I jailbreak but I don't pirate" (and the necessary "I just try the apps out and I'll pay eventually" bit if they really do pirate) comments come from online forums, in real life all the people I met that jailbroken or rooted their iOS and Android devices are for the free games (yes they refer it to the "free games" instead of "pirated" or "stolen" apps). Of course all of us don't have real statistics to argue for.

I think the developer of the game considered the impact the potential pirates have on their servers, and decided that that few % of jailbroken iOS users can be sacrificed for the convenience and pleasure of other users. It is just a business decision. But I think they could've made it clearer on the first line of description of their game on the App Store with a warning!

Noobs

NOOBS THAT HAVE A JAILBREAK AND DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE IT MAKE ME SICK Deus Ex: The Fall' Prevents Players With Jailbroken iOS Devices From Firing Guns ALREADY CRACKED haaaaaaa this is a joke undetected jailbreak in cydia FIND IT.

This is a huge F-U to those of use who need to jailbreak to change APN, MMS and tethering settings.

Thanks to messed up carrier settings, a lot of people pretty much have to jailbreak to use their phone properly.

Besides, I'd rather have sbsettings than Deus Ex

I have a jailbroken iPad and no pirated apps.

Gamers with jailbroken iOS devices who have purchased or otherwise acquired the new game Deus Ex: The Fall are running into a problem when they attempt to play: they can't fire any guns, a key part of the game.

Reports Kotaku:
Eidos, the development firm behind Deus Ex: The Fall likely implemented the measure to deter piracy, as jailbreaking is a requirement to pirate software, though not all users who jailbreak choose to pirate software.

As a result, users who choose to jailbreak for other reasons but pay for their software get caught in the same net as the pirates. It's not the first time that developers have resorted to similar tactics to stop pirates, although it is unusual for such a high-profile developer to target not just pirates but all jailbroken users.

Earlier this year the publisher of Game Dev Tycoon encoded features into the game that would bankrupt players who didn't pay for their copies, while DirecTV prevents users with jailbroken devices from using its app at all.

Deus Ex: The Fall is available on iPhone and iPad for $6.99 from the App Store. [Direct Link]

Just to mention, jailbreaking is NOT a requirement to run pirated apps!

Tons of us have jailbroken devices without pirated apps. The people on this thread bashing the jailbreakers simply have no idea what they're talking about. They use logical fallacy after logical fallacy to cheer on those that would curb their freedom for no other reason than "hackers are bad!" Again, all you people rallying against jailbreaking have NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.

Jailbreaking != pirating. Jailbreaking simply allows one the freedom to do what they want with the device they paid for. I'm shocked at how many people here just toe-the-line throwing their freedom out the window all because they don't understand the technology involved. It really is a shame.

Lastly, just to point out the absurdity involved here: Apple has not only copied TONS AND TONS of jailbreak teaks in later revisions of the OS, but jailbreakers are the ones who created the App Store and App Market in the first place. Apple was years behind the ball and still is -- hence control center in iOS7. Better late than never I guess.

Quit being so ignorant. You're messing it up for the rest of us.

What a disrespectful, paranoid, ineffective, stupid, horrible, counter-productive idea.

I don't jailbreak or pirate apps (which are not the same thing anyway, as has been explained by many), but I'll certainly be avoiding any products from these jokers in future.

Personally I don't have a need to Jailbreak, but still I am sure they will need to reverse this action or at very least offer refunds to impacted purchasers.

Ugh... there are legitimate reasons for jailbreaking...

Yes there are. Security analysis and other White Hat operations come to mind. Also, if you are working on an accessory where the iOS releases hasn't caught up with your transports API is a good reason too.

However, if you want recreational use out of your devices, pick up another device and don't jailbreak that one. There has been attempts of "jailbreak switches" but I've yet to see one that works well.

This won't be a popular comment, however I can't say I feel sorry for those who jailbroke yet still want to use legit software from the app store.

All my friends with Android devices went and jailbroke their devices just so they could play pirated software.

Pure BS as you DO NOT have to root to play pirated software or install apps from outside sources. Why make stuff up?

----------

Yes, but far as I know, you still need to unlock the bootloader.

Incorrect. You just tick the box to allow installs in settings. No unlocking anything. Androids allow installing of outside apps out of the box, rooting allows many apps more access to the os. Rooting is in no way attached to piracy.

For future information there are MANY legitimate apps on google play that ONLY work if your phone is rooted. Really the best apps to me use root. These are Free and paid. Take a look.

https://play.google.com/store/search?q=root&c=apps

Rooting and jailbreaking is different in that Apple does everything they can to stop it and google allows apps for rooted devices, rooting, custom roms, etc. in their store.

Like opening yourself up to lawsuits when jail breakers pay for your app and can't run it because of some ridiculous restriction that does nothing to prevent piracy?

Are you talking about a law suit that would cost you money for an attorney and get you nothing in return? If you're lucky, maybe you'll get your money back for the app... Good luck finding a lawyer for $6.99

You can fool yourself that a LOT of jailbreakers don't JB to get stuff for free that would otherwise cost them, but you aren't going to fool me.

Until someone mods the .ipa into letting jailbroken users play and then being able to download the game for free anyway :p

Clients-side controls like this are incredibly trivial to bypass.... I could get around this control in 5 seconds flat.

I have a gb iPad. But all other devices are as apple intended. The reason is that my toddler is obsessed with the iPad. Knows how to use it. So the only way to properly protect it from her meandering a and stop access to some areas while still allowing us was to gb it. Sorry apple but your parenting controls army even 10% there yet. Not for me anyway.

+51 upvotes - wtf? This post is completely wrong.

Idiots

People don't jailbreak to get free apps. They do it for tethering and masking cellular connections as wifi connections. The idea that these guys did this is just sad.

Funny thing here is that using jailbreak detection as opposed to piracy detection(there are methods specifically for this) means that this was easily defeated. There is a cydia mod, xcon(which I just learned about today after this fiasco) that hides jailbreaks. The developers of xcon specifically made it so that checks that will detect a cracked app will still work, as they don't support piracy. By making it jailbreak detection, anyone who pirated it could still easily do so, and then add xcon just like a legitimate buyer would.

All apps should do that. Despite the nerd who will write here saying that is useful, 99% of jailbroken devices are used for pirating apps, cheating in games, or simply makes iOS slow and unstable.

I work in a computer store and really we had a lot of problems with jailbroken devices.

Not going to lie that this is kinda hilarious, however I wont be surprised if someone finds a way around it.

It's already been cracked.

I am laughing so hard at this right now. Most ********ted reply I've ever read in my life.
