According the the CSR at my store, NO - you can't even cancel it - You wait until it arrives and just not pick it up. What the hell kind of BS is that.

I told her that I couldn't believe that and asked that she get better clarification.

You can cancel it. My brother canceled his yesterday, drove an hour and a half to an Apple store and bought one...And I'm going to do the same thing today. They quoted me 5-7 days. Today is 7 days, I've talked to enough people at AT&T that have flat out admitted that they have NO CLUE what's going on, I have no confidence that it's ever coming at this point.

That's what I was told to. Fortunately my phone is coming in today so I'll just go back into queue for a black iPhone.

Unfortunately, the nearest Apple store is 3+ hours away, so that really isn't an option and I have a Titan pick-up that gets about 20 on the highway, it'd cost me a fortune, I can't justify that.
 
You know the only thing I have in writing from ATT about the backorder is the initial email that said 5-7 days. Back orders happen but businesses should provide honest and reasonable timelines for receiving back ordered products. They said 5-7 days and they should be held to that standard. My phone should ship by tomorrow. I'll even give them until Monday, as a grace period because stuff happens, to ship my phone or provide a revised timeline and an explaination. Anything beyond that is unacceptable.

ATT took our money for a product (including a two-year service contract) they don't have in stock nor do they appear to be getting said product in stock within their estimated time frame. I wonder if there is a class action lawsuit against ATT and Apple in all this mess? Maybe Apple will deliver dumptrucks of phones in ATT's lap this weekend and all will be right but I doubt it.

I was told the same thing, only I never received an email stating the product was on backorder, and I placed my order on Sunday. And the way it looks, it's not going to be anywhere close the the 5-7 days.

I would predict closer to 2 weeks. I ordered mine on the 14th and I don't expect to get it before the end of the month.

I'm just pissed at how AT&T is getting shafted by Apple on shipments. The closest Apple store is an hour and a half away - and STILL no guarantee on getting a phone there if I make the drive.

I ordered on the 14th too. I called an AT&T Representative & she told me that I would get mine in 7 days. FYI: I ordered from Cherry Hill, NJ

Did you see the article on AppleInsider.com, according to them, they have a memo from AT&T addressed to sales consultants stating that all orders from 7/13 forward would not be fulfilled for AT LEAST an additional 10-14 days.
 
I ordered mine on friday at 10 am and it said both backorered all day yesterday and around 1245am last night it was shipped thank god!! Should be here by 3pm today so everyone hang in there it will come very soon!
C'mon people it is just a phone, not a liver transplant. We'll all get our iPhones soon enough, fretting about just make the wait seem longer.

Seems like if you ordered at 7/11 a Black 16gb iPhone the wait will be just as long or longer
 
i want my iphone just as much as anyone else and i think how long it's taking is ridiculous... but to be fair, when they said 5-7 or 7-10 days... that's business days, so mon to fri.... so if you ordered before mon, today is the 5th business day... anyhow, hopefully it'll ship soon

BTW, I ordered mine Tuesday.
.... HAHAHAHA, yes!!!! So happy I don't like anything black that Apple puts out.
 
A DF can be canceled, but reps don't do it very often so they may not know how. My store had to look it up.

You can't change an order you have to cancel it and start over.

Ordered an 8gig on Friday, canceled and ordered a 16g-blk on Monday.
 
Placed a DF order at the local ATT shop around 5:30PM Monday the 14th. 16gb White. Got an email this morning saying it was shipped. Checked Fedex and it was delivered around noon this morning...

I guess paying someone to stand in line for me yesterday afternoon wasn't really necessary....

I too can't believe there's been no media coverage or that Apple nor AT&T haven't had some sort of press release - Very poor PR on both their parts.
 
What do they care. What are people going to do, not get an iPhone? Fine other people will buy it.
Go to another company, nobody else has the iPhone.
Say screw it and go with another carrier, sure pay to cancel contract(s) then go to another company and pay more for something that isn't really close to an iPhone.

We'll put up with a bad order system, bad roll-out of product, bad communication, and bad service, they may or may not say 'sorry' and we'll keep paying....
We're screwed because ATT has what we want.

I don't like it. I wish Apple had opened up the phone to more than one provider, and/or sold it in places(best-buy, circuit-city,etc) other than ATT and Apple Stores that are 2+ hours away.

Counting today it's only been 5 business days, 6 shipping days.
 
i have been thoroughly disgusted with at&t's service. yesterday i heard "we don't know when your phone will ship" for the last time (the phone i ordered a week ago). i canceled my order and drove my ass 2 hours to buy one from the apple store. i received the best customer service i have ever experienced. i only waited 40 min in line which was much better than the 6 hours i waited on the 11th. the sales rep that took care of me answered all of my questions and not once did he try to rush me out the door. this was quite a difference from the stand-offish and downright rude staff at my local at&t store. i encourage all of you to do what i did. i know many of you may have quite a distance to travel to reach a mac store but seriously... **** at&t. maybe i should hack my phone, buy out of my contract, and go back to verizon. hmmm...

good luck to all of you. now there's one less ******* with an unfulfilled direct fulfill order.

MINE FINALLY SHIPPED! But I have to wait until Monday to get it according to my tracking info :(

Oh well, now I know that it's on the way!!!!!

Finally my Friday 945am order of 16gb black says shipped. Says it will be ready for pickup Monday 3pm (not Saturday). Fantastic. 10 days after being 2nd on DF for 16gb black.

AT&T and Verizon phones aren't compatible. You could go to TMobile, however.
 
leftfield78 I would love to do the same thing you did but unfortunately because of my FAN discount code I have to shop at the AT&T store or lose my discount for 2 billing cycles.
 
yay! Finally my 10:30 friday order of my 8gb has shipped today!! Too bad it has its estimated deliver on monday :( guess Fedex gets the weekends off. Tis makes me feel a little better since I wont be in town this weekend anyways...

But at least its on its way to me!!! left at 8:19 this morning...
