A dagger through the heart! I bought a new MBP in July when the 19s came out...

I'll probably be lurking in the Apple refurbs section on those just to look... like i been lookin'... and lookin'... which of course will bring me back to look at the newest release... and keep lookin'... and lookin'...

... but I'm almost at point of admitting I've been looking for some u-turns that are not going to happen, mostly to do with ports; also maybe bigger SSDs for less of a hit and etc.

Maybe time for me to MAKE a u-turn of sorts, and figure on whatever is the then currently biggest iPad Pro when my workhorse mid-2012 MBP finally croaks. I'm not fussy about keyboards and have got used to assorted BT ones bc my MBP's kb is busted, so maybe time to acknowledge I use my iPads pretty often for most of what I need computing gear for anyway.

Still I've been an MBP user and admirer for long enough now I cannot stop myself windowshopping.

I believe it when I see it.

So for the past 4 years the only thing "PRO" about the MacBooks have been the price.

The rest, quality and innovation, has been quite a disaster.
The MacBook Pro hasn't changed meaningfully since the Touch Bar and Butterfly Keyboard were introduced. The Keyboard has been a total disaster, and the Touch Bar reception, even after 4 years, ranges between indifference and disgust.

This update sees Apple walking back on both of those, at least partially. A brand new/old scissor mechanism keyboard will be introduced to start the process of righting that wrong, and the escape key is being added back, even if the Touch Bar itself remains.

I would be ecstatic if they offered a version without the Touch Bar. I have found no use for it, and would be much happier to just have dedicated volumes buttons back.

The 15" MacBookPro starts at $2399. This product is clearly meant to replace that product (and has been rumored to do so).

There is nothing about this product that justifies a dramatically increased starting price. The keyboard and return of the escape key are things Apple owes its customers after 3 years of a total joke.

Same casing with slightly larger screen is quality of life upgrade...its not a new tier.

Beyond that, what is there that isn't also iterative?

Even if this includes Face ID (which I hope to god it does), it still doesn't justify major increases.

I see this replacing the 15" MacBook Pro, and the new starting price being $2599, somewhere around that.

I also see myself buying one immediately.

You'll have to explain that. While we've certainly gotten used to this behavior from Apple, there is nothing here that justifies it.

The 15.4" MacBook Pro is $2,399. To increase the starting price to $2,999 is going to take a lot.

...Unless it is Titanium.
The 16" Pro will eventually replace the 15" but until that happens Apple will take advantage of early adopters by offering only very expensive configurations. They have done it in the past and they might do it again. Simply put, Apple won't offer any cheap configurations (e.g. 256GB SSD or Intel i5 processors) thus forcing people to spend at least $3000 even if they don't need 512GB of SSD or an i7. Then next year they could also offer cheaper configurations that completely replace the 15".

Mark Gurman did tweet that product launches are coming, with or without a keynote. He's very reliable so I think this new MBP is coming next week along with some other items.

Add vega to existing MPB15 and you end up with 3149$. New 16MBP will be with higher end configuration - we've seen it before with new models. 2999$ starting price seems very probable.

I'm guessing the same price as existing MBP. Other than a little thinner bezel, new keyboard, and upgraded processors there isn't much as far as we know. Of course this is Apple and they could use increase the price for the heck of it.
The 15” is rumored to be staying in the lineup, but the price will depend on the base model config/features. If it has the same CPU, GPU, RAM and SSD of the current 15” base model, I think the price will be around $2,699.

If it has a higher-end GPU or CPU, or higher tier RAM/SSD like 32GB/512GB, it could be $3,999 or higher.

Are you kidding me? Who in their right mind would buy this, let alone anyone here on the MacRumors forums has enough cash to buy this?

It's a professional product! You can make films 24/7 with this. When you think that a Phantom 8K camera is 100K or a RED camera is 50K plus lenses etc, the MacBook Pro at 3K isn't bad. As long as Apple continue to fit quality components to their products, I don't mind that price for a pro end machine. It's not designed for the mass market of instagramming and web surfing. We used a 13" MacBook Pro at one of the dance music radio stations that I worked at a few years ago, and that machine drove ALL of the music output 24/7 365 days of the year with a single hiccup!!!

Hrmm, AppleTV+ launches on November 1...methinks 4k Super Retina XDR (ala iPhone Pro) display MacBook Pros and iPad Pros would be "just the ticket" to rollout along side and to showcase their new service...well, IMHO. :)

Idk if there’s an event, but it looks like Apple is having a media event in NYC October 30th at the showroom they typically use.

This is the keyboard description for the current MBPs on Apple.com:

"The MacBook Pro keyboard has a butterfly mechanism — providing four times more key stability than a traditional scissor mechanism, along with greater comfort."

I wonder what the keyboard description will be for this new 16" scissor keyboard?

The MacBook Pro keyboard has a scissor mechanism - providing eight times more key stability than the failed butterfly mechanism, along with greater comfort. 😀😀

How about a 14" screen in a case that's the same size as the current 13" notebooks. I'd be interested in that..

ASUS Zenbook 14 is your friend!

Well realistically $3999 on a Macbook Pro sounds really insane. What makes it worth it though?
People choosing to put their cash on it make it worth it, they vote with their time and energy. They say, I go to work for this amount of hours to equal this amount of money and I choose to spend that on this particular thing.
If people do not buy it, either the pricing will decrease or the product ceases to exist.

The problem is a Macbook Air is pretty underpowered and you can barely do consumer level editing with it.

So the product lineup will be an underpowered Air (particularly when compared to PC counterparts), MBP's with keyboards that don't work, and a great MBP for the 10k people in the US that are professional video/audio people.

It feels like it's just repeating old news. We haven't had anything new around the October event for a while now.

Question: I have a very nice leather bag where my 15" MBP _just_ fits. There's a bit of height unused, but the width can't be one millimetre more. Will a 16" MBP fit?

How much is this going to cost?
What about the other side: What do you get for your money?

Only $3999.99 with integrated graphics, and supremely affordable $5999.99 with a GPU that’s worth a damn.

Still no touchscreen... what a waste. I haven't purchased a new machine in over 4 years because I've been so uninterested in the updates they have done. The touchbar is still a silly gimmick for what I do, and is an annoyance to my colleagues. I primarily use my computer for drafting and graphics for work, and the only reason I need to buy a new one is that I can not upgrade my current machine. Apple is becoming such a disappointment as a professional machine.

Purchase a Microsoft Surface and find happiness. Or complain about Apple not having a touch laptop (which will never happen) and be perpetually disappointed and unhappy.

No one here would know. But I thought the rumors have said it would be the same form factor just with thinner bezels. We are going from 15.4" to 16" so I would think bezel reduction would still allow it to have the same dimensions. I guess we will find out soon.

Apple has owned Beats for many years and there has been no OS integration in a visual sense. You’re basically using your predication, to back up your predication.
Quit blabbering

I'm shopping right now for a new laptop to replace my base spec 13" 2015 MBA, and even though this is probably going to be priced out of my range (and that's okay; it's more Mac than I really need), I'm curious to see if they put anything in it (like the rumored scissor switch keyboard) that might make its way into other, cheaper lines in the spring/summer. I could hold off that long if need be.
