I sent my feedback as well.

I'm not expecting a refund but a $20 credit in Itunes would satisfy me.

I have Mail and I can get a weather widget on my macbook for free?

I don't know about you but my OS X upgrades came with Mail and Weather widgets, and I paid over $100 for them. Who's to say that the price of those apps aren't rolled into the OS X price? Yes it appears free since it just comes with your computer/OS, but you paid for the computer/OS to get the apps. Show me where to download Mail.app for free, or show me where to download the default Weather widget...

Heres what im annoeyd about i dont mind spending 20 bucks for the updates rember this was a IPOD at first the other features were nice to have what eerks me is that the new people who buy this will get it for free i say if your gonna do this make everyone pay the 20 bucks..

Software up to date program?

Remember when Leopard came out, if you had recently purchased a Mac without Leopard pre installed you would get it for free? Don't you think they should do the same here?
Granted, I think it should be free for everyone, but why not at least give it to people who just bought an iPod Touch? It just makes sense.

If its free for new users, it should be free to veteran users.

That's like saying people should have to pay for Leopard after buying a Mac because people who bought a Mac with Tiger have to pay for it. It's simple, the features aren't that great, so don't buy them. Or if they are, do buy them. You can also get the apps on there for free if you jailbreak it, so quit whining. I understand it's annoying and I'd be annoyed too, but I wouldn't come on here and complain, I just wouldn't pay for it.

my exact feedback :p

I think charging 20 dollars for an update is ridiculous when the iphone and apple tv updates are free. I can see the rationale behind the iphone update being free, since we were told of features to come. The ipod touch owners were not, but neither were apple tv owners and they have a free update. Anyway I think it's pretty poor to charge for 5 new apps and in closing I would like to leave you with this why should people who made you *more* money be charged while people who made you *less* money are not? My reasoning behind this is the people who already have it have already given you their money so you could have occurred interest over the amount of time since they bought it, while the new users just gave you there money. So really why are the people who bought long ago being punished for giving you *more* money?

just for info....if you do decide to pay the 20.00 then you will find the mail app alone worth it...when I jailbroke my touch the mail app made it a new device....the other apps are cool but the mail app rocks....I use imap with gmail

now i dont really care either way, but here are a few points i'd thought i'd make <snip> what do you all think?

i THINK i've never seen so much brouhaha over twenty bucks in my life and I've been on the planet a long time.

now i do definitely remember what it's like to be an extremely broke student, don't get me wrong. But really. This is $20 in 2008 dollars. C'mon. One can beg rides from friends for a couple weeks, save $20 on gas and get the upgrade.

most of the carrying on here is trollsome, imfho :) have a nice day :)

I think most people are not upset that it is $20. Most people are upset that they have to pay any amount for these apps.

It's not just the apps that are $20. I installed the update, and still cannot do the new wallpaper, home, and dock customization.

ill admit its funny though how people whine bout stuff like this but you never here any one complains over The Online games paying 50 bucks for the game than 15 or more for the service

Well I already have these apps, so I'm not upgrading the firmware. I think the only reason that they're charging is so AT&T doesn't get pissed. Apple may be giving some of the money made from the upgrade and portion of the money made from the new iPod touches to AT&T, although I doubt it. Just my two cents.

Yeah because it costs apple millions of dollars a week to host iPhone updates...

Apple has no problem giving iPhone users the update free. Oh and apple Apple TV users got theirs for freeOh and new iPod users who buy the same hardware at the same price get it for free.

Apple makes money off each iPhone contract each month, right?

ATV doesn't sell like iPods. By upgrading the ATV apple stands to make more money off of rentals, and hope rentals will lead to more ATV sales. So it only makes sense to upgrade them for free.

By not giving you the New Apps for free, you don't lose the ability to view rentals on your touch. So how does it benefit apple? You still get a free update, just like the ATV!

There's a real easy solution to this 'dilemma' your all facing ;

DON'T BUY THEM!

Just stick with the super sexy Apple Ipod Touch you already own and ( I'm guessing love right?) and you get to keep your $20

It's not a compulsory purchase!

Those of us who want the apps can just be glad that Apple are even letting us get them onto our touches.

$20 for google maps and mail - it's a no brainer for me!

4 months in and my touch just 'leveled up' for a few bucks!!

What a good day!!

Actually it's I'm for Apple on this one. If you want new features for the iPhone apps that were customized just for the touch then by god you have to pay for them. :D Works fine for me!

Sent it and told them that if they don't offer them for free I never buy Apple again. Selected xp/2000 as my os (= not true) , hehe.

It's ONLY $20!!!!! What is wrong with you people. You'll spend that on a couple of mochafrappucinos at Starbucks. All that new software for less than 5% of the original purchase price. Whatta bunch of whiners. If you can afford $400 for an iPod, what's all the griping about $20 that extends its usefulness 10-fold? Geez! Or did your mommy and daddy buy you the iPod?

people like you are the reason why people like APPLE came up with this ********. you want to waste your money? go ahead.

I've never jail broken my touch. Figured it wasn't worth the hassle. I'm not a guy that really wants or needs those apps mostly because I have what I think is the best cell phone on the market (HTC TyTN2). I use it for work and for all those apps that they're charging 20 bucks for.

But, I think this method of cash extraction from people that just bought their touch over x-mas, like I did, is poor form. Bad mojo if you ask me. I already sent them a complaint form.

Now, I'm not militant over it, but I will be buying my son a laptop as he graduates soon and will be going to college. The plan had been to buy a macbook or a nice pc. Now I'm not so sure. Why? Cuz I have a bad taste in my mouth over the way they are handling the touch upgrade. Screwing people over isn't right.

Wasn't the initial $400 enough, not to mention the $18 tax?
Giving these free would keep many more people loyal for something actually worth paying for.

Guess I'll be sticking with my jailbroken iPt for now.

Guys I'll just be honest with you. This little fee is just to keep the cell phone provides cool. If they just said HERE YA GO GUYS and slap them on the touch then it would really piss off the carriers. Nearly ALL of the money you pay goes straight to the cell phone provides. Source? Of for the love of god. You wouldn't believe where I heard it.

I don't know if someone has tried to explain why, but if so, I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm repeating.

First off, you take a RISK whenever you purchase a new device, period. You can't always have the latest greatest thing at the time and not expect something better to come out later.

Second, this sounds like the iPhone price drop thing. Remember Jobs' letter? COME ON! Technology is always changing. My programming professor doesn't want us to buy books, why? Because they are out of date a day or two after being published.

Third, it's an optional update! You can purchase the software upgrade, but do you really need to? No! The iPhone is closer to a PDA than the Touch, so don't expect them to be nearly the same.

20 dollars for a upgrade of software that most people might not need. You can't really use the Map app when you're on the road, unless you are using a satellite car. The Stock and Weather apps are nice to have, but with the Stocks... It's easier to just use your computer for that. Email, same thing!

Don't get me wrong these apps might work for you in what you do, but for the general public, it's not necessary.

So if you think about it, it's a steal! 20 bucks to get you all the same apps the iPhone has WITHOUT THE MONTHLY FEES! So stop complaining.
