That doesn't mean that they have legitimate reasons to complain.

Amen

Pretty much true. Just because it looks similar does not mean that Apple is required to do whatever people want for free.

The iPhone came out. Then people wanted an iPhone-Phone=iPod touch.
Apple gave us that.

But then everyone got mad because they didn't get their apps. Most people said back in September that they were willing to pay for them. A lot of us sent requests to Apple saying that we would gladly pay for these apps. Now we get the apps and most people are angry that they're not free.

Amen to what you said to i rember seeing this stuff

The main reason that i am dumfounded is that the iphone users got not only the update, but they got money back too, cant apple see that the first major update should be free perhaps.

Dude... you should have bought an iPhone!!! You do get a free updates, just not free extra apps.

They got money because the price dropped by $200. And the music store didn't add signifiant functionality. Also, it makes Apple money. By adding it for free, they'll make more money. Nobody says that you are required to upgrade to 1.1.3 or buy the apps. It's an option. You bought an iPod, so be happy with an iPod (no, an iPod does not need iPhone apps to be an iPod).

I thought the iPhone'rs had to pay something like $60 a month and you're worried about a tiny $20 1-time payment to get iPhone-like functionality... that's terrible.

Edit: I just found out that Apple legally has to have us pay for these new features because of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarbanes-Oxley_Act

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I would like to formally apologize for my irrational thinking in my previous post. I currently have a jail broken 1.1.1 and i use the iphone applications. I had been using other applications from appsnapp. I have thought about whether i need these other ones. I have made a choice. Times are now for the update. I can wait for the platform to be open for the sdk in February. I would like to say that i am sorry for the rant, as i have come to the realistic side and have just purchased the updated apps.

Good job supporting the company that listened to us.

No...:eek:not you too! Don't go to the dark side! ;)

I have a 1.1.2 Jailbroken iPod touch, with all the goodies inside. I am right now questioning updating and wasting my soul by paying Apple $20 for the iPhone Apps. I'm just going to wait it out for a week or two, and see how the Touch Dev Team does with 1.1.3:):apple:

It was either this on the touch or lose the carriers of the iPhone. You choose. All the money goes to the carriers.

I disagree. The carriers aren't going anywhere. ATT has the hottest phone in the US market. Not going anywhere.

I think the point is being missed. People that just bought their touch's for x-mas just got hosed a little bit. I won't be paying the fee, nor upgrading to 1.3 if it sucks more memory from my touch.

Erm.. no. I'm right about the carriers. ;) But yeah I do say the people who just bought it should get a free update. It's not fair. But for us who had it for awhile it is just fine to upgrade. It's really worth the $20! Honestly!

Soooooo.... this is for "accounting reasons"? And..... I can upgrade for free, and apparently, the apps come with the upgrade? right?

So, how does it help their "accounting" to go ahead and give me the apps if I never activate them? If I go thru the process and bandwidth for the download? Am I throwing off their books if I never pay the $20?

NO. This is a lame, and totally transparent excuse.

Man, you guys have your ass puckered up tighter then a snare drum. Pay the fee and move on. There are much bigger injustices to fight (if this can even be called that).

Amen, brother. I say the fee is a great deal for what you get. Let's recap.
Mail, Google Maps, Notes, Stocks, Weather, a customizable springboard, internet web clips, song lyrics and movie lyrics. You really do get what you pay for. I say nuts to you who don't think it's worth it.

I can afford the $20 no problem, the fact is they should've gave us those programs in the first place. Then make us pay for them, after we've already boughten the $400 device. Then, on top of it, give it free to new owners. This has nothing to do with money or the price.

If you're loose on who you give your money too, send it on my way. It can help pay for the new graphics card I just bought.

I bought the apps (having issues with the ******* install to top it off) but it does suck that we have to pay for these. I didn't realize that they are installed on Touch's you buy now. It's not like it's even the 2nd generation. It's the same iPod just with the applications installed. Why not then charge people who buy a iPod Touch tomorrow 20 bucks more!!!??:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Agreed nice post

Being the i'm an apple premier member developer, and i do development for my college, i figured that i should go legit for the sdk coming out.

You got what you paid for.

Want more? $20 please.

... Why bother. I'm not gonna convince all of you. It's just an option. You guys are complaining about the option to get iPhone apps. As a matter of fact, you shouldn't even be complaining! You should be happy they have this option available.

...

i already sent my feedback on the pricing... even though i already paid for it and i think it was worth it specially on the map app, because i live in Chile and i think it's awsome that the maps have our streets on it, made my life so much easier...
keep your ipod's clean people! i'm sure they'll realise their mistake and give us loyal customers store credit (it's impossible to get an itunes card down here and my credit card won't work since it's not american)

:apple: is doing an experiment.
Be strong and shoot all your feedback, the best way: DON'T PAY!!!

If they :)apple:) succeed in this test, they will come with a conclusion like: iPod Touch owners paid, why iPhone owner couldn't pay? Let's charge them from now on every single software update we know they want, and make those updates as slow as possible to make more money....

huh...

i'm confused so why are people complaining about the extra $20 for the software update.

you can get everything in the update except
1.) the "jiggle moving icons" (which can be done through some other app i forget)
2.) putting bookmarks or something on your home screen

the rest you can just download after jailbreaking. whats the big deal?

if you upgrade to the 1.1.3 firmware and if you ipod touch is jailbroken its gg correct?

You got the update for FREE. You only paid for the apps...

One general consensus from this thread: Suck It Up.

You paid $300-$400 dollars for this device, it won't kill you to pay an extra $20.

akonradi made a spectacular post. If you wanted an iPhone, you would have bought an iPhone. You bought an iPod Touch, it was what you wanted. So now you're complaining that Apple's charging you $20 for new applications. Why? You wanted what you got but are now jealous of what happened. It's technology, things happen. You can't expect things to stop after you buy something.

Most people out there don't even need this update. They won't even use it. For the people out there that want it and will use it, they will buy it. It's that simple.

At least Apple is offering you these apps. They didn't just put them on the iPhone and walk away. You would be complaining if they didn't offer them, you're complaining now. Life isn't free.
