I usually tell people exactly how much it costs. If they complain about it's so expensive, then I know that they don't do much on their computers except surf the web, email and word processing. But I do much more than that. Sometimes, if I'm lucky, I get someone who asks what do you do? Then I know that they aren't average people when it comes to computers. I don't have a traditional job because I'm only 16. I work in Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks, Final Cut Express and After Effects for many hours a day. I make quite a bit of money (to a teenager's eyes) so a $500 PC that seems luxurious to someone may not seem that way to me. I pay for all my gear either through my own money or my parents buy for me because they are pleased with my efforts in school. I don't consider myself spoiled or rich.

If people think that of you when you're 21, I'd hate to hear what people think of me. I'm 16 with a 17" MacBook Pro, iPhone 4, and my own car.

Fact is MBP are very good computers. I own a 13" and a 24" iMac I bought my son a 15" MBP six months ago and I'll buy our daughter one next. Her HP is at the end of the trail. Some of the guys I work with think I'm nuts for buying Macs. But.... they change computers more often then me and they have virus issues that create down time and costs money to fix. In the long run we save time and money using a Mac. I'm going to buy a Mac Mini next and use it as a server along with an Elgato device. I might even give up DirecTV.

I totally LOL when people trip out about me spending a meezly $2000 on a Macintosh computer. Big deal. It's a computer system that does a lot to make my personal and professional life much easier and more productive, that's a small price to pay. For some people that have the audacity to question a person for spending so much on a Mac, I'd like to know how so many women can justify spending the same amount for a Louis Vuitton bag that does nothing more than make a person look like a rich bitch snob. :p

Usually I'll tell them. But usually, most the people I'm around actually ask me what I have in it as far as power goes. And when I tell them what it's running, and what it can do, it all makes sense to them. Especially when getting into the "windows runs on mac, so I don't ever need another computer aside from mac" argument. It's great stuff :)

I agree with you. Computers are tools. People get work done and make money from them. It's an investment for some. Handbags are just a item of social/financial status. It basically paints a big giant X on you, making it easier to be robbed. Functionality is basically the same from a cheap handbag to a more expensive one. But it's not the same for computers.

how is that not censored?

i thought he was talking about hacking it, not just putting in some periods

That is how I circumvent any internet filter. It's a coding nightmare to include code that can differentiate this. And search engines take out periods. It's so easy to navigate to NSFW sites (not saying I do or condone this) on school computers with internet filters.
