Of course, it doesn't have to cost the same. Apple could give it away for free. But any reasonable person would assume that adding higher quality parts would likely result in higher prices.

Of course, assuming the two products are identical, but they are not, aren't they? No phone, different enclosure, no GPS, only one antenna, etc.

Look, you are being apologetic for Apple's silly excuses.

Are you practicing other ways to call people "fanboyz"? Cause I think it really hammers home your point when you just use "fanboyz" with a "z".

Personally, I'm not apologizing for Apple. I haven't made any excuses for Apple. And I don't think Apple has made any excuses. The offered an explanation. They offered a product for sale that is better than anything else in its price range for what I want to use it for. I chose to buy one. You seem to think that makes me "dumb" or a "clueless moron." I take offense.

Like I said, if you believe that Apple's thinnest excuse holds water, I have a bridge to sell you.

Do you believe they are lying when they say that the higher quality camera won't fit in the thinner casing? I'm not sure what the lie here is.

Clearly, they have all the components they need today because they have the iPhone, but why innovate when fanboyz swallow hook, line, and sinker anything Apple says or does?

Yay, the "z" is back! I think you win this argument just for that reason. But just to clarify, are you saying that only a fanboy(z) would buy an iPod touch because Apple could have made it better? Even though none of the alternatives at that price are better? So if you are not a fanboy(z), you should not buy portable music player? You should spend the extra money for the iPhone. Right?

I'm not assuming anything of the kind! The iPhone was not part of the equation. I just said than any reasonable person would assume that using higher quality parts in the iPod touch would likely result in higher prices.

So? What exactly is your problem? You have your opinions, I have mine. But if you did not get it, I can repeat it again, just for you, honey. The new iPod Touch does suck, and Apple makes laughable excuses for not making a better product.

9/10 = Kinda sucks

So when you say something is your opinion, does that mean you're just fabricating out of thin air?

Again, so? It is still does not change the fact, in my opinion, that the new iPod Touch sucks compared to what Apple could have done, and the fact that, in my opinion, of course, that Apple makes laughable excuses for not making a better product.

So they could make the exact iPhone 4 32GB minus 3G radio and sell it for $300 and enjoy greater critical acclaim and equal business success? Whooo boy, pass me some of what you're smoking.

It must be fun to exist in a world divorced from reality, inhabited only by the creations of your mind where real world constraints and commercial viability (you know, what actually matters to a business) don't exist at all.

Let the word go forth:
You agree that the Touch is the best available device for the price.

Yep, a trolling we will go.

Not at all. I do not think it makes you, or anyone else for that matter, "dumb" or "clueless." But I think that Apple's so-called "explanation" is not believable and borderline insulting to someone who knows a little more about the technology than how to turn on a computer.

Do you believe they are lying when they say that the higher quality camera won't fit in the thinner casing? I'm not sure what the lie here is.
They are not lying. They are getting complacent with their current market position, which is not a good sign. And yes, I believe them that the higher quality camera does not fit in the thinner casing, but I do not see how thinnest takes a priority over the quality of the components, especially given the fact that we are talking about a negligible difference.

But just to clarify, are you saying that only a fanboy(z) would buy an iPod touch because Apple could have made it better? Even though none of the alternatives at that price are better? I am saying that the excuses presented in this thread in defense of the Apple's so-called "explanation" sound fanboyz-ish because they are apologetic and lack critical thinking.

Sure, but all other apologetic arguments were something like "for iPod Touch to be a lot better it has to cost the same as the iPhone," which is a baseless speculation.

Wow, should we thank Apple now for not charging us a monthly fee to use an MP3 player? Please...

If you're willing to pay $700 for your iPod, then Apple will make a feature complete iPhone and call it iPod Touch. For half the price, it's incredible they've been able to add the retina display and 2 cameras.

They rated it 9 out of 10. Is the OP trolling ?

So, in other words, I must agree with the rating or I am trolling? That is just dumb and immature.

Read the review. I did. And based on this and all other reviews, it is clear that the newly added features are low in quality compared to iPhone. The features are pretty much identical to the iPhone's features, but their quality is not, so, yeah, it kind of sucks that in 2010 we get 0.7 MB camera and other low-quality components. If you are happy with that, that's fine, but I do not have to be happy with it, and I do not have to agree with some rating.

No, actually, "Apple is just sucky and they should just sell us iPhone 4's minus the cell radio for $300." is his basic argument, the "I want something for nothing" argument. He just doesn't like their business decisions, but business decisions don't exist in his world or he doesn't understand them. Wait until he finds out what the markup on software is.

Nobody said "for iPod Touch to be a lot better it has to cost the same as the iPhone". Some people said "for iPod Touch to be the iPhone without the phone, i.e. what yustas has constantly said is what Apple should have done*, it would cost almost as much as the iPhone and certainly enough to deter people from buying it". You can't read at all.

*For one example, you said
There is no reason for the iPod Touch not to be as good as the iPhone
and you've repeated similar sentiments throughout the thread.

It is a dead horse. We have been over this already. The two products are not identical, so there is no reason to believe that the Touch's price has to be the same as the price for the iPhone for its features to be better.

Yes, it's a dead horse, because your whole point is that the two products should be identical except for the phone, not that the iPod should have a few things done differently (and even if you change your stated opinion to the latter, it's still your opinion, so whoop-dee-doo).

What's dumb and immature is using a review concluding in a 9/10 rating as proof that the iPod sucks.
No, it is called not being a fanboy or a ditto head and actually having an independent opinion. I know, for fanboyz, it is probably impossible to understand what any of that means. Google it! :D

yo I think this movie sucks, to support my opinion here's a review that says it doesn't suck and is in fact awesome

Yes, the quality of the added features should have been identical. I stand by that. So? What is the problem?

It's more dishonesty really. It's fleshed out to be the kind where people really dig in their heels and name calls anyone who disagrees, emboldened by being the fearless Right Person among the throngs of only the "fanboyz" that disagree with him.

It's brainless armchairing speculation with no analysis or fact to back it up? You don't understand things aren't free? You don't understand products aren't made to your personal whims and demands?

Virtually all reviews point out to the glaring shortcomings of the newly added features. Their ratings are based on a comparison to the previous model. I never said the new Touch is not better than the old Touch. Of course, it is a much better product compared to the old Touch, but it has nothing to do with with my opening statement or the subsequent things I said. Pay attention.

Oh, I see. The two products are currently not identical. As you have argued in the thread numerous times, the iPod should have the same features as the iPhone added (except for the phone) and of identical quality. But there is no reason to believe that the price would be the same. Of course there isn't! Now I get it! Why, the price might even differ by $20!

There are no tradeoffs in his world, only the right way and it's his way. Which is fine in the end, no real objections here, but yeah, it has no relevance to anything. It boils down to "Everything sucks and I'm going to let people know about it." for virtually all products.

Not at all. I do not think it makes you, or anyone else for that matter, "dumb" or "clueless."

Maybe you are not reading your own posts.

But I think that Apple's so-called "explanation" is not believable and borderline insulting to someone who knows a little more about the technology than how to turn on a computer.

What's not believable about their explanation? They sacrificed a better camera for a thinner enclosure. (And a cheaper price.) They think this is a better business strategy. You disagree. They have a better track record in this market than you do.

They are not lying. They are getting complacent with their current market position, which is not a good sign.

Getting complacent? The iPhone and iPod touch have never had feature equity. And this was the most significant upgrade to the iPod touch ever by most reasonable measures.

And yes, I believe them that the higher quality camera does not fit in the thinner casing, but I do not see how thinnest takes a priority over the quality of the components, especially given the fact that we are talking about a negligible difference.

You don't see the advantage of thin over a better camera. Super. Fantastic. That's a reasonable opinion. Nothing to argue with there. But you don't have to be "dumb" or a "clueless moron" or "fanboyz" to disagree.

A still camera is not an important part of the device for me. I've never taken a picture with my cell phone. I appreciate the advantages of a thinner device in my pocket at a lower cost.

I am saying that the excuses presented in this thread in defense of the Apple's so-called "explanation" sound fanboyz-ish because they are apologetic and lack critical thinking.

No, they just disagree with you.

Sure, but all other apologetic arguments were something like "for iPod Touch to be a lot better it has to cost the same as the iPhone," which is a baseless speculation.

Except nobody said that. It would really help the discussion if you responded to what people actually say instead of what you think they might have meant if they were wrong.
