I can imagine it and it would be an amazing and peaceful day on this planet.
Take it a step further.. imagine if all these developers take a stand and pull their apps. Are you really okay with iOS with no 3rd party apps?

In an update to its FAQ today, spotted by The Verge, Epic Games has confirmed that the upcoming season of Fortnite will not be available to players on iPhone, iPad, or Mac due to the company's legal battle with Apple.

From the FAQ:Earlier this month, Epic Games strategically violated Apple's rules regarding in-app purchases by introducing its own direct payment option for in-game currency in the Fortnite app for iOS. Apple promptly removed Fortnite from the App Store, preventing Epic Games from updating the game to provide iPhone and iPad players with access to the new season, which releases August 27 on other platforms like Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

U.S. Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers this week decided not to force Apple to put Fortnite back on the App Store, but she did grant a temporary restraining order that prevents Apple from terminating access to Epic Games' developer accounts related to its Unreal Engine game engine. A final decision on an injunction will be made in September.

In a statement, Apple said it would be glad to welcome Fortnite back to the App Store if Epic Games removes the direct payment option from the game while the case proceeds:

30% commission is too much, it's like a daytime robbery. Glad that someone has the courage to fight these two tech bullies.

Can't believe we still have people blatantly defending the trillion dollar company without even secondguessing their decision. I use and love Apple products every day, but when I see something bad or unethical, I'll call them out on their BS.

Epic is fighting for the rights of all developers, not just themselves. It's for the little guy, the underdog making chump change while Apple is making 30% for doing nothing.
  1. Apple's rules privilege small developers over big companies.
  2. Your "doing nothing" is just wrong. You can read many posts about this topic, it has all already been explained.

Meanwhile Tim Cook just cashed out 265,000 shares and made over $140m ...
Off topic. Sorry.

It is easy to dismiss one app disappearing. However, imagine if all the Unreal Engine games were gone from the app store. Then imagine if all the Unity games disappeared. And more..

I get why Apple thinks these companies need the platform, but Apple forgets they need these companies also. If all 3rd party apps started disappearing, then imagine how crappy the iOS platform would be.

It isn't as simple as a lot of people think. Yeah, most adults aren't going to care about Fortnite disappearing, but there is a bigger issue here.
As someone who used Windows phone I know how bad it can get

Well did call Epic's bluff and told them that their dev cert would be terminated as well and they went to the courts crying about it as well. MS jumped in that the certificate would after more than Epic it would affect 3rd party devs and the judge agreed. Unreal Engine is not used in all AAA games on the iOS store. FPS games aren't even the largest draw on any mobile devices.

You guys do realize that Microsoft was sued and lost for having IE being the default browser in Windows. Apple's ecosystem is way more monopolistic in nature than Windows' was in 1995.

All platforms take 30%. Why aren’t they going after Sony or Nintendo? Because they wanted to side load their own App Store and make more money by selling more apps in their own environment. There is more to this than Epic PR stating they are doing this for the Developers.

Get informed.

I am. Maybe it would be enough time for some people to wake up. 3 years ago i went to south America for 7 months. I lived with the natives of Peru, i worked with them, I ate their food, I tried to learn their ways and languages. It was the happiest time of my life. The moment I got back I felt so depressed, just bills, work meetings and notifications. Not to mention all those lying, crooked faces. Technology is good, but why do we as a society always use it in such a diseased way?

The fact that they won't release on MAC just shows how petty they are.
And Apple threatening they'll terminate Epic's dev account and prevent a ton of devs from using unreal, forcing them to rewrite their games isn't petty?

To all those people saying ‘Apple has the right to take 30 percent cause they host the app.

They just host the small launcher. If you open Fortnite or many other games like Call Of Duty downloading 1 or more gigabytes from the publishers there servers and not Apple themselves. That is they way they got the offending update on people their phones too. Apple does not pay for all the gigibytes of bandwidth, the publishers do.

I am a big Apple fan and the fight shouldn’t be about 20 or 30 percent but the right to compete on a platform with sideloading or alternative stores. I hope when it comes to anti-trust they will look into this. And maybe 99,99 percent of users won’t use this, but an option to compete should be there.

Even closed platforms like PlayStation have more freedom because you can buy a disk in several stores at competing prices, in the Sony store or buy a product key for credit or games in competing stores.

If Apple could they would probably block all software on MacOS that isn’t signed by them to run. Just like safari extensions have to use hacks and tricks to run and you all get scary security warnings and ‘blocked app’ warnings in MacOS that get worse with every release.

Want to play games? Buy a real gaming machine - iOS and Mac are second rate.

Windows and then Consoles provide a far better gaming experience than what Apple offers.

MAC OS has nothing to do with iOS. Maybe Apple should remove/block the Epic store?
They tried to terminate their certificate (standard operation for any dev that violates the agreement) and MS wrote a letter to the judge and the judge agree and prevented the certificate termination.

If Apple was really as bad as everyone says they can kill off the current app on people's iPhones which is still violating the terms.

And how is that Apples fault that Epic hides behind sock-puppet accounts? Those devs should be going after Epic for being childish.

The judge granted a TRO, that's it. Apple can still terminate later if they wish once the TRO is over (if nothing else is filed, since apparently Epic has many accounts and the TRO was filed with the same one that makes the games - Oooops)

Psst... Sony still takes 30% off the Disc sales. Before Retail takes its percentage, then the pressing companies make the disc and give a kickback to Sony for the "certifications".

Players have to wait another month to see how court goes for this. Should be interesting. Epic must have done the math and decided that the risk/reward of potentially not having to pay the 30% cut is worth the nearly 2 million dollars they made in daily iOS in app purchases.
They make 7 times more on consoles. Also if they start hurting which they won't then can revert the app and all is normal. They won't hurt cause all those iOS users who have the app can continue to buy vbucks directly from them via the app with no cut going to Apple because Apple hasn't killed the app only disabled the sales. NOTE: Fortnite new subscriptions mobile was going down for the past few months. It's saturated and most players switch to a console.

No. Since epic abused their dev account to bypass the restrictions it was a clear violation of their agreement.
Exactly. In the court filings Epic received the standard template letter from Apple telling them they have 14 days to fix it or their account will be terminated.

I realize all that. I'm saying what if this becomes a trend and all these other engines take a stand. What good is iOS without apps?

Just as many of these games are built on SceneKit and SpriteKit. And there are other iOS engines that are ground up industries for building games on iOS. If Unity and Unreal Engine leave, this only makes it a bit harder for some AAA game devs which aren't huge on the AppStore to start with. Apple would likely be very happy with that scenario as if the games are built on its native libraries they'll run faster, be smaller packages, and be iOS exclusive.

I'm a little confused about why it wouldn't be available on macOS - can't they distribute the update via Steam and/or their own Store and website? I understand it wouldn't be available via the macOS App Store...
But then they wouldn't have mac gamers crying out on their side.

As the judge said, this could easily be temporarily resolved in the short term if Epic just retreated to the status quo until the current legal matter is settled. But they aren't, so if there is no Fortnite in the app stores it is now by their own choosing.
This unequivocally proves that Epic DOES NOT GIVE A FRAK about their customers.

Them going back until this is resolves means that they could be making 70% of all sales in the meantime AND their users could play.

But instead Epic CHOOSES not only to not have their users play, but they are willing to leave 70% of all Apple revenue on the table.

This is just BAD business. If you have Epic shares, maybe start considering selling some right away.

Award for most depressing comment here goes to... the above.
Why? The most depressing thing is playing any FPS on a mobile device and yes there are bluetooth controls but by the time you add it all up it makes the Switch the better device. And even then XBOX/PS4 are better. Nothing beats my PC!
