I think if Apple chooses to take a hard line stand against the consumers and the developers that we will see a huge migration of both away from Apple slowly over time. At this moment iOS and ‘IPadOS’ have an advantage in the market place because they have the largest App Store. However, I believe this moment right now could be the beginning of the end. Apple can decide to open up or remain closed. The new Samsung S7 tablets look like a huge improvement and the google pixels 4a looks like amazing value for money. You better believe I’m doing my research. The ball is in Apple’s court and all of my future business is absolutely on the line.
Samsung and Google both have a problem of not supporting their phones long enough with OS and security updates. I'd really expect Google to do a better job.

They are really acting like spoiled little children. This is ridiculous and very immature. I wpuld be very wary if i was a business doing business with the leaders of this company, considering how they act...

People supporting Apple persistantly quote the stores for the consoles run by Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo as some kind of justification for what Apple is doing with it's store but yet I have not heard of anyone complaining about about the console stores to the same level that customers have been complaining about Apples app store and the console stores have far bigger software companies than Epic using them.

Surely if the console stores were applying the same kind of price structure as Apple does for it's store, the tech media world would be inundated with articles of companies complaining about Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo but the fact is we don't. All we here about is what Apple is doing so therefore is it a case that those 3 companies are doing something right with regards to it's users and business customer whereas Apple is not and thus Apple fans are looking to find excuses where there is none?

I think he is here to listen to all of the Apple evangelical rantings. His views and opinions are as valid as yours.

Have you considered the reason that the apple App Store is number 1 is because its so closed? Apple isn't taking a hardline they are continuing with the same line as they took 10 years ago when they created the store. The fact is consumers love the App Store, they love the security they get from apple, they love to have 1 payment method for all apps, they love that if they have an issue they can deal solely with apple for a refund. If people didn't like the App Store they wouldn't have been buying iPhones for the last 10 years they would have been buying android phones.

Its such a shame that a small minority want to turn iOS into Android and it will me and the other millions of happy apple consumers who suffer

Its like they try put a lemonade stand inside the local grocery store without giving the owners of the store any “rent” for using their place and customers 😝 crap epic, luckily fortnite is one of the worst games made

But the parents read their emails.
...and probably praise Apple for "blocking" Fortnite.

So was their non-appstore "lower" price 30% lower? Or did they try to grab some more of that consumer money for themselves?
It was in fact lower, but not by 30% (e.g. 1000 fake currency originally cost $9.99, but only $7.99 with Epic direct payments).

But here's the kicker: Epic also lowered the prices by 20% on consoles where they still have to pay the 30% revenue share, and just sucked it up.

Wow they wouldn’t keep the Mac version up to date which is unaffected but still released an android version even tho it’s banned from the play store? Seems they have a personal vendetta against Apple

But wait isn’t there a hole in epics argument?! The % on the android store is similarly 30% this is epic being greedy. Knowingly doing this themselves. Asking for a deal on the side. Apple refusing, then epic doing what they what. They already had a court case prepared, knowing full well Apple wouldn’t let it just slide.

A sensible person: Sue and create a case with other companies while maintaining app accessibility.

Epic: Breaks T&C. Plays the victim. Ruin the game for platform for their “justice” while turning a blind eye to the same 30% cut on consoles.

Sure, the 30% cut is worth discussing, but who’s the HYPOCRITE here?🙄

No extra room in this echo chamber? Having budget and appreciating value are not really the same thing. IF the App Store mark up is decreased by any % as a result of this spat it will be good for me as a consumer. That is all. I am not on team apple or team Samsung or team Epic. I am on team me/regular everyday consumer. If we can have a great device AND purchase apps for somewhat less then hurray for us. Tim Apple is doing fine, he won’t even feel it lol. Cheers.

I just dint see this not reflecting bad on Epic. Now they are directly lying to their users. This will most likely hurt their lawsuit while also opening them to an a to-defamation lawsuit from Apple. I guess their strategy is short-term aggressive blackmail. They hope to build enough hate for Apple so that long-term backlash on Epic matters less.

I understand but me for example i prefer to pay 1$ more on a purchase but be sure that i won't install a broken app, a keylogger (just an example) or something that has access on informations outside the application without anyone controlling it and set boundaries.

Apple devices have a good resale value. So you can switch anytime without loosing a lot of money!
You should take in consideration every pros and cons that fits you.

For me, it's important to have security updates for long time, a working device for multiple years, easy to use for everybody (my mom for example) and other things like this.

Apple will loose this fight in the long term, why? It is not only Epic, but the governments are concerned in the meantime - "The kind of common theme is the abuse of their market power to maintain their market dominance, to crush competitors, to exclude folks from their platform and to earn monopoly rents."
https://www.macrumors.com/2020/08/26/antitrust-investigation-apple-disturbing-behavior/

And Apple doesn‘t stop acting like it is standing above the law - don‘t understand why Apple doesn‘t act in a smart kind of way, so it can keep the control of the AppStore also in the long term.

Not allowed to tell anyone that Apple takes 30% - so no freedom of speech as along as Apple is in control?

Never played Fortnite once in my life. But as a proud dad of 2 youngsters, 12 and 10 yrs old, I find myself struggling with them in order to find a proper alternative to this game, where especially the youngest is crying for the dismissal (we have iPads, Macs and a Switch, but they always say the Switch version is inferior to Apple's).
Having tried PUBG (which they dislike), same for Call of Duty mobile, can you suggest a few good alternatives to this game, iOS version or Mac version? I would like to remove completely this Epic title.
Thanks for your help.

Are you 100% sure a reduction in apples 30% commission will be passed on to you?

So you have 2 youngsters - but you do not understand that they want to play the same game as their friends? There will be an alternative as soon as all the kids play another game. That‘s it.

Go get em a PS or XBox ...

I never played the game, and now I never intend to. If Epic Games thinks this is the way to get around Apple, they’re wrong.

If they got it in their minds it’s so easy to develop and sell hardware and operate an App Store, why don’t they do it themselves? Nobody forced them to develop for iOS.

As many have said, Apple won this fight with Epic, but so many recent fights are shining a light on previously unknown (widely) Apple practices. They will lose the war. I hope the walled garden can remain.

Sorry but you are completely wrong here. All this thing is not about consumers most of the time - it is about the developers. The benefit consumers will see is that you will be able to buy a book/audiobook in Kindle/Audible app. And maybe better apps cause the developers can invest more money into the development.

How am I wrong? the post I replied to said that if apples % was less he would pay less as a consumer, I'm asking if he's sure that saving will be passed on to him.

For me personally, if I cant pay for book/audiobook in Kindle/Audible app using my apple payment method then I dont benefit as a consumer
