This is the exact walled garden I purchased. I don’t want competing app stores on my phone. I don’t want side loading or multiple payment methods. I want security and apps “that just work.” This is not due to technical incompetence. I’m a tech professional with an education in programming. If I wanted to futz with my phone after a long day of futzing with a number of systems at work, I’d buy an android phone or make my own phone out of an Rpi or something.

This is what you pay for with Apple. This is what you get with Apple. Curation and management. If you don’t like it, you bought the wrong product. I intentionally don’t have any android devices so when the masses of people I work with screw them up and come to me for help, I can tell them I haven’t got a clue how they work and suggest they contact “android support”. I almost never hear from the iOS people but when I do, Apple support is actually a real thing, with real people. That type of service doesn’t pay for itself.

Good luck parents of tweens and teens as your kids ask for android devices to play their game. Enjoy the headaches of fractured OS releases, bloat ware and that wonderful freedom you get to download un-vetted software.

The shallowness of you logic doesn't allow you to see that you can still have it exactly as you do right now while others can have their way.
What a alien concept huh?

What would be cool is if Apple come their next conference shows the facts and ***** completely on facebook/epic games stupid asses

This is the typical way of thinking of someone who, indeed, does not know android. I say this without judging you negatively. I used to think and talk (almost) exactly like you. But I was wrong and you are wrong. These are just tools, android phones are not as crappy as how you describe and iPhones are not as perfect, at least at comparable prices.

Furthermore, you might not have realized it, but you already have multiple payment methods on your iOS devices. Compared to Android, it is just more inconvenient because you cannot pay from the app and you need to register and pay using safari. That's how apps like kindle have worked since...forever. Netflix too works like that nowadays, for new accounts. And countless other. You can even buy Instagram ads directly from their app, without IAP, 30%, or apple payment methods. Apple is willing to make exceptions for some.

Exactly this I couldn't agree more, this is exactly how I feel and I truly believe the vast majority of apple users feel. Its such a shame that a minority of very vocal people want to turn iOS into Android, if they had just bought Samsung or google phones in the first place they could be enjoying their phones and open ecosystem instead of fighting to change iOS to suit their needs and ruining it for the rest of us in the process

Sooo... you're basically scared that your phone might have extra functionality??
I thought I seen it all.

GAME OVER for Apple since you're losing the only AAA game worth playing on Apple platform and Unreal Engine that will drive future AAA games by other developers. Bad timing, too, since it makes it that much easier for Apple customers to migrate away to upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC with Nvidia Ampere and AMD Big Navi GPUs. You could've invested in your own platform by investing in developers but your greed just returned you to serious gaming irrelevancy for the 4th consecutive decade.

The funny thing is they most like only get about half the value, the other half goes to the store that sells the cards...

Oh lord... now Epic will sue Walmart and Walgreens... :p

But seriously... there are always some sort of fees when turning real bucks into online bucks...

The only way around this is to hand Tim Sweeney my $10 directly!

It doesn't matter if he understand Android or not, the point is he likes iOS just the way it is.

You are right about Netflix. I forgot to update my CC details for the Apple App Store when I got new card and Netflix cancelled my subscription, the next day I realised and updated my CC details for the App Store, unfortunately by then Netflix wouldn't let me reactivate my account using apple store payment. As such I'm no longer a Netflix subscriber

Well, it matters if someone compares iOS with Android like she/he did. :)
Apart from that, I totally agree with you, that people who are happy with iOS should stay with iOS (unless they are curious who try something new, which never hurts, I believe). I have been a happy iOS user for many years and a happy Mac user for MUCH longer. Then I started disliking both these platform, for several reasons. Around the same time my MacBook Air decided to die, fixing it was almost as expensive as throwing it into the trash and buying a new one, so I looked somewhere else. It's nothing personal. Like I said, these are just tools.

Its not limited functionality its consolidated functionality. Epics goal is to have it own App Store, if it gets it wish it will then remove its app off the Apple App Store. Now if I want fortnite I have to join there store. Next Adboe set up its own store that I have to join that to get Photoshop, then join the Microsoft store to get word.

Before we know we have 20 different App stores and just as many App stores installed on our iPhones as we do apps. Then how do we know these stores are safe? Im sure Adboes and Microsofts are but what about all the random other ones that pop up, At least right now any app I need from the App Store I have the comfort apple checked it first and taht if something is not right they will refund me.

This is getting ridiculous. Epic is just being childish and petty now. I wouldn't be sad if this is the beginning of the end for them.

It doesn't surprise me how many people are ill-informed of what's actually going on. I just had a conversation with someone the other day who was claiming Apple removed Fortnite from iPhones, iPad, and Macs. I had to correct him and let him know they only removed it from the iOS App Store and was still playable for those who already had it installed, and that it was never in the Mac App Store and could still be downloaded from their site. He wasn't even aware that Google removed it from their Play Store for the same reasons Apple did.

Its great if people like different things and they have choices, my issue is people buying into iOS which is cleary wrong for them and then wanting fundamentally change it from the platform that we all originally bought into saying its best for the consumer.

Epic Games this evening sent out emails to Fortnite users on iPhone, iPad, and Mac to let them know that it will not be possible to play the newly released Marvel-themed season 4 content on their devices.

fortnite_apple_featured.jpg

In the email, Epic Games blames Apple's App Store fees for the unavailability of new content, even though Apple has said that if the direct payment option is removed and Fortnite obeys App Store policies, it can be updated and remain in the App Store while the legal battle between the two companies plays out in court. From the Epic Games email:Epic Games informs customers that they can still play the existing season 3 content, but progression is not possible and iOS and Mac players cannot play cross-platform with those on other devices. Players using Apple products cannot access the new cosmetic options, nor can they receive gifts from the new season unless they log into an alternate platform that has access to the season 4 content. Battle Lab, Duos, and LTMs are disabled on iOS, and iOS players are unable to complete new Quick Challenges and Style Challenges.

In lieu of iOS devices, Epic Games recommends customers play Fortnite on Android, PC, PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch, and it directs customers to Apple to ask for refunds for in-app purchases.

Epic Games attempted to get a temporary restraining order that would force Apple to allow Fortnite updates to continue to be available on iOS devices and that would prevent Apple from terminating the Epic Games developer account, but the judge sided with Apple and did not grant a restraining order for Fortnite.

The judge overseeing the case told Epic Games' lawyers that all Epic needs to do "is take it back to the status quo and no one suffers any harm," but Epic has opted not to do so and is standing firm as Apple prepares to terminate its developer account. Epic lawyers in fact said that Epic "can't go back into an anticompetitive contract."

Apple said in mid-August that Epic would lose access to its developer account on August 28, which is tomorrow, so it looks like Fortnite will be unavailable for the foreseeable future as it appears neither side has plans to back down.

Apple was also going to block Epic from working on the Unreal Engine used by third-party developers, but Epic was able to successfully secure a restraining order to prevent that from happening. So while Apple is allowed to block Fortnite so long as Epic continues to violate App Store rules, it is not allowed to terminate the Epic International developer account and tools used for the Unreal Engine.

The next hearing in the Apple vs. Epic battle will take place on September 28, with Epic aiming for a preliminary injunction that will allow Fortnite back onto the App Store.
