One I think is Lavender, but the other blue, not so sure (there are too many blues!)

The one you labeled as Lavender is Lavender Gray for sure, the other one appears to be Denim Blue or Ocean Blue.

It’s not that I don’t believe you, it’s just that I find it weird of Apple to complicate things

I once bought a second hand HomePod - without a box but still in warranty. After a month it failed, so went to the Genius Bar. After a quick test, they whipped out a replacement in a cellophane wrapped plain white box. They opened the box and handed me the HomePod. When I asked to have the box, I was told it was strict policy not to let customers have the plain boxes - very odd! Clearly not the same policy for watch bands...

If you would have had the HomePod replaced by mail you would have gotten the plain white box. In store you are correct that you can’t have the plain boxes.
