Still, the Hermes line is unavailable in a good amount of "affluent markets" - BeNeLux, most Nordics, Austria, NZ etc, for no apparent reason. Should be money to be made there.
I knew about NZ but those other ones are strange. I guess it’s not as easy one would think to cross over from EU nation to nation to grab the goodies?

I don’t think Tim is in the business of discontinuing products that sell too well…the doctrine of good-better-best has plenty of room between the $49 and the $340. But mostly my guess is informed by the price of random third-party leather bands and the fact that people were probably not happy with what they were getting for $150, even after they had to scrap the first few generations of the mashed potato and then filleted leather.

The magnetic leather did drop to $99, after all.
interesting - i thought the classic buckle line actually had decent quality of leather, particularly compared to newer leather links, etc. Am I correct or am I mistaken? I'm not saying it's anywhere near the quality of Hermes, but I actually thought it was better quality than many out there?

Kumquat on Starlight is a pretty unbeatable pair. Quick shot and edit here as it’s raining. Solo loop.

That looks really good! I have been curious about how the yellows and oranges would go with Starlight, since it has such a different look depending on the lighting/band color.

I’m sitting here in semi-darkness, and with the dark cherry solo loop on, my Starlight almost has a pinkish tone.

I’m certainly no leather snob, but I really like the classic buckle leather myself. My saddle brown classic buckle is my most worn band, and I love how it looks and feels.

I always thought it was the reverse actually. The classic buckle bands are definitely not as nice as the Hermes leather. But they are good enough that most people wanting a classic watch look were perfectly happy with the quality for $150. That ate into Hermes sales. By taking the classic buckles out of the lineup, Apple pushes people wanting that look to Hermes.
I agree with that. I mean, there's a huge gap between $150 and $340.

My personal theory is that Apple replaced the "old-fashioned" classic buckles with the "modern" leather links that would appeal more to a younger consumer generation, as opposed to a classic buckle "grandpa" (or grandma) style. And you just have to look at the photos on their website & ads to see that Apple heavily targets younger generations with their watch (a watch being something that youngsters wear less and less).

I personally love leather bands and I waited until I got my first SS to buy any. Leather links are nice, but the epitome of elegance is for me in the classic buckle... that is, "it was", until I got a Hermes....

I think it’s crazy how few younger people wear watches regularly. I have worn a watch as long as I can remember. For me, loving all things Apple, moving to an Apple Watch was a no-brainer. Yes I love the look of a good, classic watch, but I also love having all the info I need right there handy, and the AW has only improved over the years. Now I can’t imagine NOT having one.

My adult children all have them now, and only one was a fairly regular watch wearer prior to owning the AW.

Same here! I still have the first "adult" watch my parents gave me, for my 15th birthday. I've been wearing watches ever since, and gone exclusively Apple Watch for the last 6 years (and counting).

I imagine it is because their phone provides all the same info as the watch does (plus so much more) and they always have their face buried in it. ;)

I've had an Apple Watch since Series 0 and I honestly wear it out of habit more than anything (at 52, I have been wearing watches for over four decades).

That would depend on where in Europe one is, and how close the nearest Apple store that stocks the items are. For some it'll be an hour or so drive, for others 8 hours or more one way.

Also, the Apple online store will only sell/send within the same country.

It‘s definitely good, but I think the price sends most people very quickly to a third-party solution where they can get any color and all the ugly stitching for a third or half the price.

I’ve not been able to interest any of my irl friends to get into OEM band-hunting. Let’s just be glad they accept Apple hardware if not accessories haha. My friend recently waited like a month for a full price Anthracite sport band.

It's bold enough. But not strong like a true Hermes orange.

If you wear Marigold, ppl will recognize immediately that you're wearing an orange watch band. The intensity of the color is purely your preference. Marigold is Hermes orange diluted down with a little bit of milk. It's like a pumpkin spice drink. It will be more neutral and easier to go with most outfits. Do try.

Here is Marigold against the famous Hermes orange.View attachment 1916329
Is the Hermes orange band made of a better material or is it the same as any other apple sport band?

It is exactly the same. But the sport band material has been known to change across generations. On some generations the material was soft, supple and had a velvety touch. On others, it's smoother, somehow harder and more prone to shine.

It is me who asked the comparison shot and I finally purchased Capri Blue from Best Buy which had an open box deal.
For me, this CP is my fourth blue band, following Blue g1 & g2, and Royal Blue. I definitely think CP is the best one. Do not think twice, just do it!

Yep. And it feels like the spring blue won’t be as exciting, perhaps a lighter Abyss Blue, something like the Abyss Blue sport loop. Definitely not the purply magic of Capri, and probably not the glow of Capri or Surf.
