Silly trolls claiming "iPhone 15 disaster."
Ah, okay, then YOU fill in the blank:

[Overheating, wireless charging malfunction, shutting down overnight... none of that is ever fixed by iOS 17.1 updates] = "iPhone 15 __________".

Good article with all the links at one place. Surprised with Magic Keyboard and mouse still having lightning.

Bringing up (out of thin air, apropos of nothing) that you are against “vomit inducing virtue signalling” is quite an unnecessary virtue signal in itself. 🤮
"out of thin air, apropos of NOTHING"?!

You must be new here.

In the UK there was indeed a price drop compared to the M2 chips. For example, the entry level MBP 16” M2 Pro costed £2699 and the MBP 16” M3 Pro now costs £2599.
Nicely done from Apple to adjust the price when the currencies fluctuate as well.

I want the space black but that M3 MBP is basically the 13" MBA with more ports, bigger better screen, better speakers, and about the same or more battery life according to Apple's website...that's super tempting on it's own. I'm currently trying to justify skipping the purchase by drilling into my head how with a decent amount of lighting it's more of a dark grey than a black, and the battery life on the Pro will be worse as well. (it'd be so nice for immersion while watching movies on the lappy tho)

Well that was all a bit of a non event wasn't it.

Not wishing to be picky but something quickly started to bother me that I noticed again and again and again.
That was the constant comparisons to M1 and not M2

It's as if they know full well this isn't THAT much faster than an M2 so kept on comparing it to an M1

That's really weird.
When Nvidia launch their 5000 series cards next year? I expect them to talk about how much better they perform in comparison to their 4000 series cards and not constantly compare them to the 3000 series cards.

Let's be totally honest here, if your product today was so much better than your last product, that's all you would talk about. If it's not that much better, then thats the only reason why you'd constantly keep comparing it to the product before that, and against you very first attempt as making a chip.

The M1 (1st attempt at a desktop chip) Came out in November 2020
If you spoke to people then, and told them three years and two generations on from the new M1, the M3 would be "Up To" 30% faster in some select tasks then you'd probably have thought, noooo this is the 1st model, in 3 years time more progress than that will have been made.

Note: I'm not hating on M3 whatsoever, It's just the MASSIVE deal Apple are making considering 3 years of development, and constantly comparing todays brand new chip to your 1st 3 years old one in an attempt to make it sound amazing.

What irked me with the introduction of the M3 was listing very narrow fields, but then in the end saying it comes to their biggest audience yet.

Also their half commitment of games was a bit irritating, its known that there are not a lot of native great games and while the first pick, Baldur‘s Gate 3, was a good choice on Apple‘s behalf, I never heard of the second game… nor does „loads faster than ever“ instill me with great hope, if this was the best description they could ascribe to the situation. Also glossing over the old products bigger screens while than zooming in in the 24“ inch screen to give it the „It‘s so enormous“ treatment was head scratching at best.

Also the starting prices are really now a bit of an insult if the starting tech starts with just 8gb of unified memory and an 256GB SSD…

The show was unremarkable in my opinion.

I watched and thought there is something wrong, they never showed the device with the ports, or discussed the breakdown of what RAM and what SSD..

Seeing X's about 8GB RAM, 256SSD in a 3rd generation of M products, seems bizarre, the price is just unjustifiable, it is not priced fairly, no wonder it is a slow seller, $1599 in the US maybe not all that expensive, but here in South Africa, that $1500 laptop is almost an $1800 laptop here... R33 000, you can buy decent cars for less, then the top specced laptop M3max, with all the RAM, $3200. or about R62 000, that is insane, 10 laptops at R62 000 buys you a decent apartment.. Truth... $3200 for a laptop, really is unjustifiable.. Apple is not any more a luxury brand, it cannot say in the video we want so n so to use it, when so n so cannot... Come on Apple, that $3200 laptop would sell in the 10's of millions of units within 90 days if you pushed the price to $999

I just gotta say - removing the third USBC port from the base model is just petty and annoying lol. I’m not gonna pay the next tier up for a third port, Apple. I’m just gonna be annoyed.
This.
This is the reason differentiation by crippling, while looking good on a spreadsheet, is a bad idea.
It reduces customer enthusiasm and satisfaction. Like blocking SSD upgrades on the Studio, shipping baseline models with miniscule RAM and SSD because you want to charge exorbitantly for more reasonable configurations, disabling ProRAW on iPhones that have exactly the same hardware (or better) than the iPhones that has supported in the past - it doesn’t matter on what side of the purchase you end up.
You either feel shafted because you overpaid brutally for something trivial, or frustrated because you bought a crippled product at a premium price still.
Or of course, you just turn your back and don’t buy at all.

While the spreadsheet probably tells you that you made a lot of money on the upgrades, it fails to account for the emotional impact of your policies (and thus future sales), and you can’t see how many turned in the door and simply didn’t buy.

Was it only me, or did this event project a slightly different Apple? A somewhat desperate Apple?

I had the exact same feeling during the iPhone 15 event, where Tim felt the need to highlight the "incredible value" of the 15-inch MacBook Air in the first few minutes of an iPhone-focused event.

This time they had a clear focus on enticing users to upgrade from their old Intel-based Macs, while also effectively lowering the price of the new MacBook Pro considerably.

I can only assume the current economic climate is starting to take its toll on Apple even. Will be interesting to see how this pans out, but I think the prices are still absurd in Europe. That $1599 MacBook Pro is apparently $2400 where I'm based. That's not all due to currency or taxes. At that point, it doesn’t matter how great the laptops are - consumers will continue to hold onto their old machines (I know I am). The base config even remains at 8GB RAM…

Still, I'm happy to finally see the Touch Bar completely removed from the lineup, and I think the 14" M3 MacBook Pro makes a lot of sense. Would have loved the Space Black color on that model too, but Apple knows exactly what they are doing and the black color is a great differentiator to persuade users to pay more.

I find the iMac largely uninspiring. The slight oddball was the fact that Apple effectively communicated there won't be a 27" iMac and that the Magic Accessories weren't updated to USB-C. Product line seems stuck in a rut, guess they aren't selling well enough.

Well, looking forward to the M3 Airs next.

Yes, laptops have a lifespan, my 2013 macbook pro is going on for 10 yrs, I would have loved to have spent money on RAM upgrades, SSD upgrades, a new screen, but I could not, not upgrade capable, then after 10 yrs, have a decent laptop, I was forced to update to an air, would rather have bought the PRO, but it was not within my finances.. There a laptop not bought, I would have over the last 2 yrs of the macbook air, invested in upgrades, not done...

I would buy the base model M3, no question, if I could over the next 3 to 5 financial cycles, invest in upgrades, one cannot justify spending $3200 now, but $500 x 3 to 5 yrs, is about do-able.. Why can Apple not see the benefit of encouraging upgrading? No they will not know I did not buy a laptop, which is a pity, as they are great, but to outlay $3200 or over R60 000 to R100 000 for a laptop, I cannot justify, but to spend R3000 a year on updates/upgrades, that is viable...

I’m just glad M3, with its 3nm design is finally out.

Now everyone can stop speculating and overhyping how the magical 3nm process is going to revolutionize the computing industry. - Guess the was the Trick or Treat part of the event.

Thank you Apple for pulling the bandage off quickly and raising the prices once again.
