What model iphone do you use?
My 7 plus works instantly in a fraction of a second to unlock when placing the finger there.
The touch ID on the i7 is more advanced and accurate than previous models though.

Must have wet fingers or a really smudged up fingerprint scanner. That's really the only benefit of Face ID, you can still use it when your fingers are wet. But then the screen won't work very well so at the end of the day not really a huge win.

For what its worth, the facial recogition feature on my Samsung S8+ that I got in March works flawlessly every time including for Android Pay use in restaurants. Perhaps Apple should have used Samsungs technologies.

I don’t think this was a FaceID fail, it was just someone had forgotten to enter the passcode for first tine use - turn your phone off and on and try touch ID and the same thing will happen.

Ah yes the old attention to detail that Apple used to have.

All is seriously not well well there. The home pod firmware leak, a rogue employee deliberately leaking the ios 11 GM and now this.

Timmy needs to get his house in order.

5 people clapped for the “big” Animoji reveal too

Considering there were probably at least 50 Apple staff in the theatre that’s kind of funny.

That's the one thing that stood out to me insanely. Having the black cut-out during movies. That better not happen...

Crazy that they showed it like that. The aspect ratio is wider than 1080p anyway.

Can only assume that the software still has a way to go.

Hmm I also heard those rumors.

And it would make sense to have both on their flagship device that way if people hate FaceID they could ignore it, or vice versa if they love it.

Generally not a good idea from a security perspective (adding another point of entry). However Apple could mandate to only have one on OR the other if they really felt it was a concern.

FaceID would be great on an iMac. And a better place to work out all the bugs.

Yeah it was actually rumored to be under the screen way longer than it was rumored Face ID would be the only option. Things only started changing the last 2-3 months before launch, which tells me that Apple indeed was panicking due to the manufacturing issues.

If they do Face ID and Touch ID, I'm sure they can just implement it like android phones do, just multiple choices. Maybe Face ID would be primary, Touch ID secondary. My guess is you only get to choose one though, that's what android does.

Just like every other year, everybody jumps on the smallest thing that did not go as planned. It will blow over by launch. It worked really well in all the hands on, and I'm pretty sure we'll see iOS 11.1 along side iPhone X which will include more optimization and bug fixing.

FaceID isn’t “the smallest thing that did not go as planned”

It’s the biggest selling point to X aside from OLED/trimmed bezels, and its a replacement for TouchID, something people love and use all the time on their existing iPhones that this model would replace

what this. it didnt fail
Even video proof won't convince some people! This shows that the message about passcode is different (from iOS 10 + FaceID at least) when entered incorrectly to many times vs restarting your iPhone.

so faceID didnt worked because that iphone was restarted and no password was entered ?

That's most likely what happened. iOS 11 for the X likely isn't 100% finalized.

Some people are claiming the iPhone tried 5 times then failed which isn't the case at all.

It is a small thing, because clearly it didn't fail. The Lock at the top of the screen never bounced. I'm just saying people are making a huge deal out of that in order to sensationalize because it's Apple. I seriously doubt this will be a big deal, but I also doubt that Face ID will be completely faultless.

From Techradar.com.

We've not been able to try it out in the demo area, but this is certainly something we want to test to see if it's a worthy replacement for Touch ID.

The demo we were shown was a little worrying, though. In the demo on stage the first phone failed, and when it was shown to us the person linked to the phone kept having to to turn the display off and on again to activate the system.

When held at the right distance, it worked well and quickly, but we saw plenty of missed unlocks in our time with the phone. Apparently it'll learn your face as time goes on, but this is something we really need to test out to make sure it's easy to get into your phone.

We’re definitely going to need convincing with Face ID – Apple’s done a good job of explaining why its system is better than anything we’ve seen before, but without trying this day to day it’s hard to know whether it’ll be good enough to replace Touch ID – and the demos weren't anywhere near convincing enough.

Doesnt exactly sound reliable..

I think so. They generally give you an opinion rather than just being bought off with loaner devices and invites to the next event. So many of the tech sites are scared to death of upsetting Apple PR.

I don't wanna go too far off on a tangent, but I'm of the opinion fake news doesn't just apply to politically charged matters, it bleeds into tech journalism often too.
