Wow, that's something that I was not expecting. I will say that the S8 has some really nice features but if the security is that weak, no thank you
So that's it, let's forget the other ways to unlock the phone.....
Have you even read the article? It says the iris scanner is slow and unreliable, so what's your problem?
Except only tech nerds who read tech forums (a tiny minority of S8 owners) will know facial unlocking is a joke.
Millions of regular S8 owners will assume it's robust and secure. And use facial unlocking routinely.
Companies can not combat the ignorance of people
So that's it, let's forget the other ways to unlock the phone.....
another half baked samsung feature.
Ignorance of people? Seriously?
You see nothing wrong if a company advertises and promotes its facial recognition method of unlocking their phone as secure?
And that company should not be taken to task? But instead the company should blame the problem on the "ignorance" of their customers?
Well.... word on the curb is that the iris scanning is crazy slow, the fingerprint scanner is mad awkward (placement... ESPECIALLY for lefties), and now- the face scanning is insecure; soooooo, what exactly is your recommendation??
They never claimed that, and there's better ways to unlock the phone. You just can't go around saying it's insecure, without knowing the alternatives, in fact Apple claims the same and the Touch ID was already bypassed too.

A passcode?
Lol, how 2007 of you!!!
You are REALLY doing your due diligence to stick up for your company though; I'll give ya that!
Top 3 most high-tech & (should be) easiest unlock methods are shown lacking in this product & unblinkingly you recommend instead of them fixing it, or me avoiding it- to default to the oldest & most cumbersome method available!! Ya got moxie... for CERTAIN kid; don't ever change! ;0)
They never claimed that, and there's better ways to unlock the phone.
Samsung does call it "face-unlock" and boasted about it being another mode of secure unlocking when the phone was launched.
Today, tech nerds who follow tech forums now know it is not secure and a joke.
Do others such as plumbers, artists, auto salespeople, teachers, retail workers, CPAs, bus drivers, house painters, cooks, nurses, firemen, postal carriers, etc who have never looked at an on-line tech forum know that?
Or do you simply "blame it on the ignorance of people," as you put it?
It's not my company, and why not? you asked for a recommendation, now is your problem if u want to use it or not, people these days...
You sound embarrassingly apologetic.
The face unlock isn't secure
- just use iris unlock!
It's quite slow
- just use the fingerprint scanner!
It's much more inconvenient & awkward than last gen, particularly for me- I'm left handed
- just type a passcode!
Lol, sooo... what would it take for you to say: "just use TouchID on iPhone & have NONE of these issues"?
How committed are you to making it hard on the consumer??
If I had crappy call quality, instead of recommending a different phone would you say:
- just cup your hand over your ear!
- just wait & talk to them in person!
- just use two cups & a string!
The fact is: people do NOT want to have to try myriad different "solutions" to accomplish simple basic tasks that their expensive & fancy advanced new mobile devices are supposed to perform for them w/ ease & aplomb.
People these days, indeed!
Lol, how 2007 of you!!!

Edit:
As to your "TouchID was bypassed" comment, lol- right; if you get all "Mission Impossible" & have thousands of dollars of equipment!
First you have to get a good clean fingerprint captured of theirs.. then scan it at 4800dpi on a pro grade scanner, then manipulate it in photoshop to clean it up, make black & white, etc.. then print to tracing paper, then etch to a pcb board (lol, you got an etching machine at home, right??), then apply powdered graphite, then create a dummy print with wood glue & presto!
THAT'S the process you're comparing to snapping a photo of someone, or downloading one off Facebook??
Do you think you sound convincing??
One of those is the easiest "hack" ever... and can be accomplished by anyone w/ almost no effort.
The other takes craft, cunning, planning, prep, tools, knowledge, supplies, time, effort, skill, patience, etc.
Comparing the two only serves to make you look foolish.

But it's possible, and there's precedents, your point?
The point is:
TouchID is VERY secure!!!!
(analogous to keeping $ in a bank; YES- it can be stolen... in a rare case, by a thief w/ a particular skill set & mindset and equipment and courage.... just like TouchID can only be broken by a very rare individual that has all the proper training & equipment, etc.)
Whereas... face unlock is NOT SECURE AT ALL!!!!!
(analogous to keeping all my $ in a pillow, on my front lawn.... where literally ANYONE could take it with no planning, no skills, no preparation, no investment of time, etc..... just as face unlock can be broken in seconds by anyone that can press a shutter button or right-click an online image and choose "save as".)
Is this tracking with you at all??
You're seeing the difference??
I can't really make it too much more plain, if you can't follow those analogies... I fear I'm at a loss to further elucidate.
But I'm not saying face unlock is secure, I'm saying and actually telling you there's other ways to block the phone, like a passcode, and the premise "Samsung Galaxy s8 is an unsafe phone" is not true, you're the one not seeing the difference, stop being biased
Do you OWN the S8 (rhetoric), or just being fanboish? MANY people own TouchID enabled devices, it's tried and tested, patched, tested again and getting better each day. Oh, in addition, Google's account lock ("Find my iPhone" equivalent) can be TRIVIALLY bypassed... because the guides are ALL OVER the internet, and I've bypassed a Moto G3 I bought, NO problem, wiped and bypassed, setup as new.
But I'm not saying face unlock is secure, I'm saying and actually telling you there's other ways to block the phone, like a passcode, and the premise "Samsung Galaxy s8 is an unsafe phone" is not true, you're the one not seeing the difference, stop being biased
Jesus Christ man!!!
Lol, point out where me or anyone else said that S8, as a device... is inherently insecure, no matter what you do.
NOBODY has said that.
Lol, you're arguing with yourself!
All that has been said is:
1)the secure method... fingerprint scanner, will be used less on S8 because of the awkward placement
2)the secure method... iris scanner, will be used less on S8 because it is slow & thus, an annoyance
3)the face scanner is neither slow, nor awkward or clunky, & not an annoyance... it will likely be used MOST often!!!
However, it is INSECURE!!!!
That's all anyone is saying.
Where you were getting that we all thought the Samsung fingerprint scanner was no longer secure & 6 digit passcode are no longer secure is beyond me! Literally nobody said anything of the like. As I said, you've been arguing against yourself...
We are all just knocking the most prevalent & easy of the unlock methods; as it's wack.
The staff member said it in a sarcastic way, I was referring to his post, then you came with the paranoia, so we are agree the phone is secure, that's cool !
Lol, yup- it's as secure as a 2005 Blackberry; if you don't mind regressing to the EXACT same method you used to secure that phone- since the top 3 "new" methods on this POS are either slow, awkward, or insecure!
Edit:
To be clear; I'm not saying that it IS secure... merely that it CAN be secure, through additional hassle & effort by the consumer.
Which you may welcome... but most would consider a FAIL!
