Wow, there are some really cool new functions (and some not so cool ones). The cool stuff is especially great because I upgraded from my 3 year old 1st gen iPone.

Screen - almost too good. Makes my iPad look bad!!! The text on the screen is amazing and the images are pretty good (although I notice some images of low quality still look pixilated despite the high quality screen!) +2 for really good quality, -1 for making my iPad look bad!

Wi-Fi - I haven't heard anyone comment on this, and maybe it is because I am going from the 1st gen to the iPhone 4. But, the wi-fi reception is a LOT better! Always more 'bars' than my 1st gen (using it as an iPod touch now) and faster internet loading (although that might be safari's fault). +1

E-mail - multiple exchange accounts is great! (+1) having inboxes shown AND accounts shown is redundent and takes up a lot of space. I have to SCROLL to see some of my information and I only have 3 accounts!!! that is just clutter. I should be able to turn off the inboxes function or the accounts function if I want to reduce clutter. +1 for the all requested 'all inboxes' -1 for extra clutter and redundancy.

Voice control - again, moving from the 1st gen, kinda forgot they added this function along the way, but i love it, especially when i 'dock' my iPhone in the car, I can play music with only one button press (then voice control and focus on the road). +1

Overall lots of good points for the iPhone 4. I don't think I missed very much with the iPhone 3G and 3Gs, but the 4 is a huge step up!

First of all this is my first iPhone ever...the build quality is solid, the reception is good, the display is amazing, I don't know where to start...this phone is really the complete package, battery life is good, tons of apps to play with, the camera is really good and pictures always come out really clear, in my opinion it's the best phone camera out there...did I mention FaceTime, iMovie etc.. I can go forever talking about this phone, I'm really happy that I finally got one even though I stood in line for 12 hours straight but it was worth it in the end.

I have had every iPhone since the 1st gen. I have to say this one is my favorite. The build quality is perfect. I especially like how they moved the bezel to the middle and added a brushed effect, shouldnt get as scratched up as the previous ones.

I also love the screen and how they put a tiny rubber gasket around the very edge, barely noticeable but should prevent chips on the edges of the glass.

The screen resolution is nothing short of brilliant! I read all the reviews and didnt believe it till I saw it for myself. Even the apps that dont utilize the updated resolution still look amazing.

The A4 chip is noticeably faster. Snappy is an understatement.

Multitasking is going to be amazing once all the apps support it.

Personally, I have noticed erratic signal bars, but even though my bars may be at 1 or 2, the call still sounds great. I have yet to have a dropped call.

Edit: I forgot to mention the 802.11n!! Love it.

I love my iPhone 4 except for two things that I have noted:

1. The cellular bars are less in number than the 3G phone right next to it. I read that the 4 shows less bars but works OK.

2. The photos look less colorfull and darker than the same photos on the 3G. I am quite surprised by this given that the new Retina display is supposed to be better. Maybe the optimization that is done on the photos before downloading into the 4 is not optimum for the 4 display.

Any ideas why this is so?

Got mine yesterday, here in San Francisco, at the flagship store on Stockton @ Market. I arrived at about 4 am. Stood in line somewhere around the corner from the Apple Store. (Break)

At around 5-ish an Apple rep came around and divided the reserves from the walk-ins. I was then ushered all the way to about the number 50 spot in line, right near the entrance of the store. Yay. (Break)

Free donuts and coffee, a dollar from some dev to purchase an app, which I'll have to see to doing... honor system and all. Free t-shirt from BuyMeAniPhone, along with a bad-ass iPhone 4 case, cleaning cloth, and screen protector (a savings of perhaps $40 dollars) (Break)

Got in the store and was helped promptly and efficiently by a friendly chap named Patrick. In and out in 15 minutes.

Best shopping experience I've ever had.

I have my phone and I absolutely love everything about it, with the exception of the capacity. I hate having to pick and choose which music to put on the thing. 32 gigs is not enough. I need at least a terabyte.

All in all the new screen, coupled with the blazing processor and Apple spit shine= I'm one happy-ass camper.:D

Great
Got it early morning on last Thurs 24th

Guys i have a question regarding the "places" in the photo albums. I know its called geotagging, but how does it work, does the map app have to be in use? how does it do it, is it automatically every time you snap a pic? Thanks

Quick question regarding the SIM card, can i use my 3G iphone's card? I've been reading around it uses a Micro sim card, which isn't like other devices and since i think the 3g iphone's card is just like all other devices it occured to me that this could be an issue. Sorry if the question is dumb, i haven't received my iphone and i rather avoid issues when i do get it. Thanks

The 3G's SIM won't fit into the mini SIM slot of the iPhone 4.

thanks jazz, i had read that else where already. The microsim will come preinstalled in the phone and linked to the account that it was preordered to. Got it, thanks a lot for the reply bro.

Awesome! How in the world did you stop motion the cutter in thin air? I'm a Motion Graphics Artist, and I don't even know how you did that.

No post work, no tricks, no editing, just the xacto blade wedged in the flap of the box by itself. The process is just setting up a shot, taking a pic via remote, then repeat. And after 700+ shots, a minute video is complete! Thanks!

The phone part of the iPhone is REALLY better

My office has terrible cell phone reception in the building (step outside and the signal is fine -- so it's not an AT&T problem). With my iPhone 3G and 3GS, I often missed calls and could not carry a conversation for more than a minute or two without it dropping.

The iPhone 4 has changed than. Although the signal is still low (1 bar), I was able to take several cell phone calls today each on the order of 5-10 minutes with no problems whatsoever! Combine this with the great screen quality and vastly improved camera and I'm very pleased.

This is a great phone!!:D

The new screen is absolutely mind blowing. I am floored by how good it is. I have to get one of these phones.

I have been reading some of the negative stuff about the iphone 4 and had myself convinced that i was going to skip the 4 and pick up a refurb 3gs for cheap to replace my 3g.

Until I went and looked at the new phone that is... I was totally shocked by how good the screen is. Honestly, in that moment, I was so smitten I didn't care if it dropped calls all day long. I have never had a case of device jones so bad. They didn't have any in stock so I stumbled back to my car and drove home in a daze.

I was unable to reproduce the signal loss issue with two demo phones they had in the store.

This screen technology is a whole new level of wow. I hope apple releases an iPad or macbook with this type of display.

I LOVE my new iPhone. screen is PERFECT. wifi is PERFECT. Battery is beyond incredible.

Only problem is the home button is kinda loose, it moves back and forth and you can hear it a little.

Should this be any concern??

Got my iPhone 4 yesterday ... absolutely love it. :D

The first thing you can't help but notice is the clarity and resolution of the Retina Display. Colours are vibrant, contrast is perfect, and the level of fine detail is outstanding. The only "problem" is that because of the new resolution some third party apps have pixellated icons, lol. I'm sure those will be updated in due course.

The speed of the iPhone 4 is unbelievable, especially when like myself you've gone from an iPhone 3G to the iPhone 4. Folders snap open, apps launch in no time at all, and iOS4 is blazingly fast on the device.

I have a lot of games for my iPhone, including the likes of Street Fighter 4, GTA Chinatown Wars, Ridge Racer, Need For Speed Shift, etc ... and they all looked stunning on the new phone. The increase in memory to 512mb shows when playing games, because Need For Speed Shift and Ridge Racer are entirely different games on the iPhone 4 ... more detail, higher frame rate, etc.

Again though, I keep coming back to the Retina Display. When you go into the iPod app and view albums by an artist, the level of fine detail on those tiny little album covers is unbelievable ... no detail is missed, regardless of it being so small.

I can't comment on my cellular network signal yet because O2 are still in the process of swapping my number/tariff over from the old SIM to the Micro SIM and as such my iPhone 4 is not yet activated.

So far, so very good though.

Felt Like a Rock Star!

First off, I got my iphone on launch day and I love it. I went from a 3G to the Iphone 4. Much faster, awesome display, camera is decent, lots of memory, looks and feels very nice. The bottom volume button is a bit mushy and will have the apple store look at it, overall a nice solid phone. I do experience signal loss and I don't think the reception is any better than my 3G was.

What is more amazing is how I got it. I felt like a rock star when I got my phone. I happened to have the day off when it went on preorder so I went to my local ATT store and within 5 minutes my pre-order was in. When it arrived on the 24th I received an email to come pick it up. I went to the Mall and the Apple store was a Zoo, about 500 people in line, security guards, crazy to say the least. I thought I was doomed, I walked about 100 feet away to the ATT store and there was nobody there. I didn't even finish my first name before they whipped out my box, opened it and setup my new phone. They even transferred my 3G to my wife. I left about 5 minutes later and the line at the Apple store hadn't even moved.... Nice service if I do say so.

Overall I think it is a solid phone, quite a nice jump from the 3G, some problems, but that is too be expected. I love it so far.

I'm still stuck waiting on delivery of my new phone... So I went to the apple store yesterday to play with one, and I was kind of disappointed. The first display phone I picked up must of been a dud, because nothing would load quickly. I tried wifi & 3G. Weird. Tried another phone & it worked, but really... A broken display model in 2 days. Guess it's seen a lot of hands. But what I was really bummed about was the size of the phone. I don't know, I was expecting it to be thinner. It's nicer then my 3GS, the display is amazing, but I'm still way more impressed by my iPad. iPhone 4 is kind of a let down.
That being said, I still can't wait to get it in my hands, and I hate the way the pre orders went this time around. I haven't had any problem with any of the other phones. I hate having to wait, but I'm just impatient.
Congrats to everyone able to get theirs, you should feel good about it, they were tough to get.

How's the call volume?

I've had the 3G for right at two years now and it can be difficult to hear some callers when driving down the highway...even if I have the volume all the way up. Same is true for my wife's 3GS. I've had three company provided Blackberry's...ironically one on each of the major three networks (Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon. Anyhow in every case I can hear callers MUCH easier on the Blackberry's. Heck I honestly believe they are as loud at half volume.

Now considering as cool as the iPhone is that it is still used at some point as a phone, I was curious has the iPhone 4 made any advances in this area? I drive an Acura TL (not the quietest or loudest car on the highway) but I'd like to hear callers better when driving without having to rely on a bluetooth headset or the car's handsfree system.

I don't think the speaker is any better then my 3G was. Me being a TL owner too I at times have a difficult time hearing and possibly even worse now with the 4 and I use my external speaker a few hours a day.

I was really hopeful a better speaker arrangement would have been addressed by now too:(

It's so good!

I've been using a 3G for the past year and now I got my iPhone4.

I got it on a contract with VF and I was on O2, and tomorrow my old number will be passed on the new carrier, so for the time being I've been using both phones.

Retina is amazing. When I use the 3G now I look it like it's some piece of... Chocolate ice-cream.

Truly makes a difference. And I love the speed too! Most of the games run poorly on 3G nowadays.
