Now that I've gotten over the yellow screen hump this is the best iPhone upgrade since the original. I had the 2G then got the 3GS last year. 2G to 3GS was an incremental upgrade IMHO. This is a true generational leap. The screen is worth the price of admission alone. Can't wait to play w/ the video tonight.

As a non stop iPhone user, I have noticed a few things..

Besides the sweet screen and awesome camera there are little things that seem different to me...

I notice that speaker seems louder.. Also in some apps like yahoo messenger I wasn't able to turn down the volume.. Only mute it.

Syncing seems to take longer.. 1 movie was almost 7 minutes.

It gets a lot of fingerprints much similar to the iPad.. But I do love the glass feel and look better.

Is it just mine?? Or when you shake yours can you hear the sleep button rattle?

It's super fast! I thought the 3GS was fast... Whew!! Sometimes It wows me.. So used to wait times on things.

It's heavier for sure.. And they say it's thinner than previous iPhones but it sure feels thicker and everyone that has touched says the same... Not by much though.

Don't look into the flash while it's on( for like video recording) it's like a mag light... That sucker is bright!

It's one slippery device!! I was watching tv and it fell off the arm of my couch like every 3 min! Plus in the car and at my work ... Just keep it on a solid surface.

If you look into the headphone jack while it's on you can see light coming out... This worries me about dust and dirt getting in the display ... Well those are some of the things iv noticed,,, anyone else see the same !!

Odd. My syncing was lightning fast. On my 3G a 1g+ movie would take about 4 minutes to sync, and on this I synced 10 movies in about 12 minutes total. I was blown away.

Remarkable....i'm Blown Away

The iPhone 4 is remarkable. Facetime was fluid, not like webcams and skype, but as realtime as it gets. I was blown away with my first facetime call. RUN TO YOUR STORE AND GET ONE. The display is clear, and incredible.

I'm at a loss for words how good this is! :)

iPhone 4 AT&T

AT&T has been very fair with me when I have called them (great with credits, etc.) and as far as dealing with any carrier, quite good in general. However, I live in downtown Manhattan and like many of the other iPhone users in this area, experience up to 4 out of 5 dropped calls a day. So poor in fact that if I have an important call - to AT&T for example - I will only use my home line so that the call won't fail midway through.

AT&T has acknowledge the issue and is working on building more towers so it will get better. Happy that you get great reception. Enjoy the phone! :)

Thanks and I am already enjoying it very much. I have heard about the Manhattan issues and I heard and read about AT&T making improvements so I hope it gets better for you! I also understand about using a land line when talking to AT&T or any other co. that's when dropping a call can be very frustrating. Btw I'll be in Manhattan during Thanksgiving so I hope AT&T keeps improving it for all iPhone users!

I currently own an iPhone 3g, I'm interested in upgrading to the 4g, I'd also like to get one for my daughter. My daughters current phone is on my family plan.

I know I already pay a flat /month data rate for unlimited data on my iPhone, but will they charge me double the data rate if I get her an iPhone too?

I have a huge yellow streak across my screen but other than that I am amazed by the quality.

I just hope the yellow fades.

The screen is great. Build quality is excellent. All around a nice update.

But...

The more I play with it, the more I feel the overall design is a big side step in the iPhone evolution, both visually and ergonomically. The 3GS feels much nicer in the hand IMO. And in the awful (temporary) iFrogz snap on case I just bought at BB, the phone is even uglier. It now looks like every random smart phone brick. The distinctive, understated, sexy, and instantly recognizable industrial design that Apple is famous for is basically non existent in the iphone 4. It's as if Porsche came out with a Ford-style 4 door sedan. It may run like a Porsche, but it sure doesn't look like one.

The screen is amazing. It makes my iPad look extremely blurry, to the point where I'm going back to surfing the web on my iPhone 4. I hope the next iPad will have a clarity similar to the iPhone 4.

Everything runs so fast now. I'm very impressed with the A4 chip and the speed I'm getting closely resembles the iPad.

Reception seems to be ok. Read that this was a "display bug" rather than actually reception, so hopefully that's an easy fix. I still haven't gotten a no coverage yet, so to me that is good enough.

Camera is excellent. I love the instant snap shots. I can literally take pictures as fast as my thumb can push the screen.

iOS 4.0 is ok. I like multi-tasking, but I'm still trying to get use to it.

Backup is super fast now. Maybe cuz I have nothing on my phone?

Overall I think this is a very good update and worth every penny.

completely love it, screen is amazing i have no problems with the reported yellow problem, also no signal problem.
i suppose the next step is the iPad with the same screen, bit gutting actually

So far I'm not seeing any yellow spots, the 3G is pretty strong and the speed is excellent. No complaints especially after using an original iPhone for nearly a month.

Sorry but I don't hear a speaker difference between my 3g and the 4. I use my speaker daily too for hours listening to my fire radios. I should be able to tell... I'd think:eek:

I'm absolutely loving the screen, absolutely beautiful

Battery life is still concernig me, I plugged it in when I got home from the store and now I'm at 90 min use and at 78%? doing 3G data, seems kinda short maybe the battery just needs to be broken in

After playing with the iPhone 4 for a couple of hours, I went back to my old 2G iPhone (to do some timing tests) ... the screen hurts my eyes.

Anyway, start up times:
2G : 80 sec
4 : 35 sec

Launch Plants vs Zombies:
2G : 50 sec
4 : 8 sec (it's instantaneous on subsequent launch because of multitasking)

Sunspider Javascript tests:
2G : 46447 ms
4 : 10541 ms

Looks like the 4 in iPhone 4 means 4x original iPhone (4x RAM/4x Storage/4x speed)

Edit: By the way, comparing my 2G screen to my iPhone 4, there appears to be a yellow tint to the screen (no blotches or bands). However, the yellow tint seems to be because my original iPhone has a distinct blue cast. The iPhone 4 screen whites are closer to my MBPs LCD screen whites than the bluish 2G iPhone.

At least, I think it's just because I'm comparing with a screen I've been looking at for the past three years. I'll have to compare with other iPhones when I get the chance.

facetime

i don't know anyone with iphone 4 and I want to see what facetime is like. they need to make an application for people to connect with the iphone 4 to use facetime. can anyone call me so I can see what its like? Thanks, Josh(26yo guy in california)

best phone ever!!!

this is the best phone on the planet right now and everyone I have shown it to is going to get one or is trying to get one.

Hi there. Can someone answer two questions for me.

1) is the USB charger backwards compatible? Can I use me 3g charger on the iPhone 4?

2) Does it have the water/moisture sensors similar to the other iPhones?

Thanks in advance.

Yes to both.

Love It!!

I've waited 6 months for this iPhone to give birth so I could to take it to a trip to Europe in a couple of weeks and it was more than worth the wait. My 3G friends said not to bother, and now they are jealous. HA! It's so darn smart that I've only had it less than 24 hours and don't know how I ever lived without it.

I am having the call drop problem, but AT&T isn't that strong in this area. I will get the bumper fix and I didn't get it for the phone, but more for the apps. My husband who is a major techie snob was non-plussed about it until the bluetooth hookup with our car and Itunes. Finally an OMG from him!

Thank you Apple!! Thank you AT&T for not screwing up my order!! And Thank You to my UPS guy who delivered on June 23 and told me it wasn't the iPhone because they weren't supposed to send it out early. Boy, was he wrong.

I read that some people have the yellow because of a drying agent with the retina screen. Mine did not have that problem, but I have nothing to compare it to. They're hoping it dries out.

my first impression was:
WOW, this thing is gorgeous.

after using it for a little while I realized that:
the new design is wonderful, the processor is SPEEDY, the screen is beyond gorgeous and the text looks like newsprint, the front facing camera actually takes pretty fricken good pictures, & the battery seems like it's quite a bit better than the last iterations of the iPhone!

Listening to music on the iphone 4. I was a little disappointed last night when I listened to some of my familiar music, transferred from my itunes library. The music seemed to have less intensity at the same higher volume levels, as compared to my 3G.

So today I decided to do a comparison. Same song, same headphones, max volume on both the 3G and I4. Also both songs transferred at the same quality.

I made sure EQ was off and the ipod settings were the same. After the comparison it was definitely obvious that the 3G plays at a much louder volume. It also handles bass and treble output much better than the I4. I could pick up subtleties in the song on the 3G that were not there on the I4.

I used high quality Bowers & Wilkins P5 headphones on both devices. I am at a lost here. I was kinda hoping that the audio quality might be better on the new iphone, but I wasn't expecting the quality to diminish.

Anyone else noticed any difference. Maybe I am doing something different, but everything looked the same on the I4 as on the 3G. I guess I will keep working at it.

I played with the Equalizer and found it made a big difference. The "flat" setting seemed to be the best for sound and clarity for some strange reason. Listening to Chris Isaak right now! Other thing I found is if I used the volume control buttons on the side it really cut back the sound. If I paused and restarted it on the screen, the volume came back. Good luck!

Haven't tried messing much with the EQ. I guess I am going to have to try some of those settings to see if it helps. Thanks.
