Well, I'm disappointed that it took so long for Apple to receive my phone at their store but when the employee first handed it to me, I was instantly impressed by how solid and sturdy it feels. It also looks amazing. I turned it on and I was wowed, once again, by the retina display and I LOVE the HD video recording. I just can't wait for the jailbreak to be released.

Never had a smart phone before the iPhone 4. I was tense before ordering, wondering if I'd even take advantage of the device.

Last week I received my phone. I have to say, (aside from dealing with AT&T who can't seem to do anything correctly) it's been a cool experience. I enjoy the phone and have zero issues.

Last night I went on a run using an application called RunKeeper. Completely freakin amazing.

And before anyone else says it, you can just copy and paste from the line below... :D

Cool story bro.

My sole complaint with mine was having to wait 4 weeks and a day from my pre-order to delivery. I have zero issues and am loving it!

I use Runmeter. AWESOME app and great support from the developers too! :)

Got to try this thing at the Apple store. I want one so badly. My 3G feels so ancient. The new iPhone is the best phone I have ever used! Want to throw my 3G in the trash, haha.

My experience has been great. The physical feel of the phone is excellent. I like the heavier feel. More than the lighter weight of the 3Gs & 3G. I'm so fragile with it though haha I have an invisible shield all the way around it but I can't let it touch hard surfaces. Don't ask why.

Just received mine. My initial impressions have been overwhelmingly positive. The difference between this and my 3G is enormous. Finally I have the responsiveness of the iPad in my pocket!

Held my thumb over problematic seam and, although I did see a drop in signal, it wasn't any cause for concern whatsoever. A problem clearly exists, but it has also been emphatically over-hyped.

For now, I love it. Can't think of a single issue. Fantastic improvement over its predecessors. I hope this will last me the next two years just as the 3G did.

Day three

I'm just starting my third day with the Iphone 4 and thought I would post my newbie-ish thoughts.

First, I should say that I was reading all of the posts I could about this phone - its problems, its features, its supporters - for weeks before I ordered one. This left me in a state of mixed anticipation and dread, which I am happy to say has so far mostly resolved itself into satisfaction.

By spec, the phone is thinner and lighter than the 3G I moved up from. In the hands, however, the 3G feels lighter. That may be due to the shape as some have suggested. The 4 doesn't feel clunky though. Solid would be the word.

The serial number of my phone revealed it was manufactured in week 29 (thanks to this forum for telling me how to figure that out). Although I can get the signal bars to decline while holding the lower left, I've not had any dropped calls while holding the phone and seem to be getting pretty good reception overall. Certainly no worse than on the 3G. I also haven't face dialed like some have complained of. This probably has more to do with the fact that I've always held my phone on an angle with the bottom a little further from my cheek, since I hate getting the screen smudgy from skin oil and the damn thing is warm.

About the only thing I think is dodgy so far is that when I use my expensive aftermarket made for iphone wired headphones to make a call, there is too much sidetone, almost to the point of creating the echo chamber effect. I have yet to test the cheapies that came with the phone to see if it is the same with them. For the techies out there: is it possible the gain was attenuated for the cheap chinese crap headphones? That would really suck.

Here's what I love about the phone so far:
1. OMG is this processor fast compared to the 3G. Like, 'how did I live with that other phone so long?' fast.

2. Battery life: Maybe not twice as good, but close.

3. The display. Makes the 3G look like an etch a sketch.

Overall, glad I made the purchase and certainly could recommend it to other apple users.

iPhone is fantastic, the new Retina display is out of this world I can not believe how it is.I Net all the iPhone since they launched in 2007 and it is like say . If you do not get an iPhone because of AT T, I pity you.

Picked one up last night at the Apple store. Just walked in and they had them available! After using a 3G for two years, this thing feels lightning fast. Holy cow. The hardware itself looks and feels incredible, and like everyone says, the display blows everything else away.

I would use it without a case if I wasn't so afraid of dropping it! So I have it in a white bumper and it looks great.

lol apple's only black employee

I died.
"No one wants to hear it from the black guy" Rotff That was funny, even though their parodies are becoming dull.

Back to the topic, I love my iPhone 4 and I'm not looking back at my 3Gs. I don't know how my eyes took the old resolution! Retina is honestly top notch and the camera is phenomenal! Overall It's a solid upgrade.

4.8 Out of 5

I feel damn lucky to be in Australia as you can buy the iPhone 4 outright from any Apple store with no networks locks at all. All you yanks and canadians are being ripped off massively.

I bought my iPhone 4 on July 29th. I wasn't planning on upgrading to the iPhone 4 from my 3GS but I had the money so I figured "why not?".

First imprecation, it feels weird to hold. The edges are a lot sharper than on the 3GS and to this second I'm still not used to it.

First off, like everyone else, I'm going to start off with saying that the screen is AMAZINGLY clear. I just wished that ALL of the revs would update their apps.

Secondly, the build quality is really really good. The weight is perfect. One of the things that I noticed is that Apple switched the placement of the microphone and speaker which I was asking for. When I typed in landscape mode on my 3GS my right hand would constantly cover up the speaker muting the sound but now that isn't a problem.

I'm not positive, but I THINK my battery life is a lot better too.

All in all, I'm glad I purchased the 4. I don't see what apple could do for the 5th gen iPhone. :)

My first impression was wow. This is a nice phone. After a bit of usage and general evaluation of the thing since yesterday, I think it will last my 2 contract years easily. Definetly recommending this device. And to quote the previous poster, I really don't see much to add to the next iPhone.

I got mine this past Friday also coming from the 3g. I agree completely with you! The difference between the 3g and the 4 are tremendous! With the 3g, there were times I wanted to just throw it out the window when it would lag so much. With the 4, it's so snappy, and I am enjoying its use.

My first impressions:

When I first held the iPhone 4 it was hard for me to believe that it was the follow-up to the 3G/3GS. The physical design is so much better than on the 3G/3GS; the simplicity of the glass and stainless steel is head and shoulders above the plastic/chrome bezel of the older iPhones. Simply put, it feels like one of the top smart phones on the market, not like a toy. On that note, the switches and buttons feel more solid and purpose built (I doubt anyone will be breaking off the volume switch this time). It also feels a little smaller, probably because there is less bezel; likewise, the square shape of the device makes it seem more elegant.

Then you turn on the device, and you see the screen, and all you can say is that it is truly fantastic. I listed to Jobs reiterate how good the Retina Display was, how sharp the resolution was, the pixel density, and so on, and truth be told I figured it was all marketing hype. But I can assure you it isn't. I've never seen any device with a screen this sharp. It's truly magnificent, and combined with the extremely sharp color spectrum, it's a pleasure to look at, and to use. In fact, everyone I know who owns a 3GS has trouble going back to their device; when they use the 4, they can only describe it as akin to lifting a fog from the screen.

The speed of the device is great (coming from a 3G, I notice quite a difference). It's clear that the new processor is an excellent fit, especially when playing taxing games like Grand Theft Auto (I had to download the demo and give it a go). That being said, all of that performance can be tough on the battery. At first I was getting pretty terrible battery life (granted, I was using the phone quite a bit), but after a few charge cycles, the battery seems to be calibrated nicely, and I'm getting battery life comparable to my 3G.

I've also noticed that the speaker is much improved over the 3G. The sound is so much more crisp, and the volume seems to be louder as well. The camera is absolutely stunning, and the flash is a very welcomed addition. Face time is pretty keen, although I wish that it were available for 3G calls. I'm also happy to report that I get better signal strength with the iPhone 4 (especially in my basement which is notorious for dead zones). And, unlike so many claims, I cannot reproduce the supposed reception/antenna problem.

In all, I would say that the iPhone 4 is head and shoulders above its predecessors. Not only does it look stunning, but it performs equally well. I really couldn't be happier; it was worth the wait!

I was amazed at it's thinness. Very small instrument overall. The hardware is first class quality. It feels heavy in your hand and the glass and metal feel like they are the work of a maker who cares about the look, feel, and finish of the product. Cool in your hand and I love the edge treatment of the glass all the way around.

This is much better than the gray plastic or composite feel of the androids I have touched. The Evo was big and interesting with its red camera eye and such but it didn't feel as extravagant as the iPhone at all. Same with the Nexus One, it wasn't exactly plastic feeling, but it's a sort of composite plastic which is not as nice by far as the iPhone. The Blaze (at Cincinnati Bell) looked edible, really it was a cream colored dense plastic with a matte finish and a red raspberry looking metal band around it. Looked like a raspberry cheese cake and quite appealing BUT which I picked it up and ran my finger across its plastic screen, ewwwwww. Sorry, that was a turn off.

The iPhone comes on fast, has a dazzling display, the sound the buttons make is delightful. It's responsive and enticing. I have seen quite a few grown men and women who are well educated get 'stuck' in it right off the bat because of it's quality and beauty.

It's a designer's delight.
