I am really upset because I do love the iPhone interface and I don't want to switch to the Droid, I just don't like the ugly/choppy interface and unsmooth motion of the UI. This iPhone 4 is almost unusable in it's current state.

What?

love it..i was thinking of returning..yeah i can make the antenna problem but i dont get it it in real usage plus a case will go on when i get my black bumper..the screen is blow away compare to my 3GS that i gave to my lil sis she loving it cant get her monkey hands off it...plus the signal/download/upload is fast...i was going to wait for a white one but now i dont care..plus im going to try them gel skin decals to give it my own look...i like the bumper case dont hide the iphones 4 design..

also the thinness and feel of the phone is high end..
1Ghz/512mb ram is perfect...i dont see the need for a 1Ghz+/1GB ram that will just eat batt more faster is going to make people use it like crazy because they can run more stuff..

i think this iphone 4 will last another good 2 years until iphone 6 thats good because i renew my contract..i think i will be skipping iphone 5 if the screen it the same size..i assume it will go to a 4 inch due to last 4 iphones had the same size screen and 4 inch will be perfect..3G is fast in my area so i dont really need the use of 4G..well maybe....

Very very positive...

Yes, I can see the antennae issue.... But it's only prevalent when I'm in a weaker signal area anyways... The proximity sensor on my phone has never ever once given me a problem yet... No screen issues with dead pixels or yellow spots... All my buttons are extremely well fit... The battery life is really really good... I walked into an apple store 2 weeks ago and walked right out with a phone... Never waited for shipping or delays...

I have a week 31 phone for you freaks that care...

Got it yesterday and love the screen. Everything I have played with so far has been great. Did I mention that I love the screen. My only problem is that so far it doesn't function as a phone - spotty to the point of non-existent reception.

Have had it for a day now and it exceeded my expectations. Have even better signal in most areas I use to have bad signal. All around awesome phone!

I have had the phone for about 2 days now, and am thoroughly impressed. I have not yet seen even a hint of antenna issues, in fact I'm getting stronger wi-fi if anything. Reading/writing is much more enjoyable due to the screen rez. And the screen is damn gorgeous.

I haven't played much with the camera/facetime or anything gyroscope related. The pictures and video are more than decent, I'm just not looking forward to how much space they're going to take up on my phone (justification for 64gb). The LED came in handy as a flashlight last night.

Although I'm still not a huge fan of the visual aesthetic, I am definitely impressed by the materials and build quality. Let's never have an iPhone made with plastic ever again! I'm not sure that any other handset maker can come close to this level of design/engineering. I hated worrying about scratches on my 3GS, now I'm looking forward to my iPhone 4 aging with grace like my first iPhone!

Call quality fine, battery life fine, no dead pixels or dead zones on the screen. I was considering getting an iPad for reading/research, but now I can definitely put that on hold at least until the next one is released.

I would say that despite all the bad press vs fanfare, that this is more than a worthy successor to the 3GS. It's strange that I feel like this is the first phone that truly blurs the once distinct boundary between hardware and software.

Finally picked one up earlier this week. After hearing all the little nit picky things people have mentioned I was afraid I was going to find little things like that on mine. Thankfully, it feels like a really solid phone. I still cradle it like a baby because I have no case for it (free case on its way as well as Otterbox Defender) I was always amazed with the screen in the stores, but getting out and using in my normal lighting conditions, it just looks even better. I haven't really tried out the video camera yet, just a few quick clips to test out in iMovie.

The speaker on the bottom sounds crisp and seems to have better highs than before. I really enjoy iOS4 better now that it has the battery capacity to use it all day. My previous 3Gs battery was being eaten alive by iOS4. I had my first slight issue with the proximity sensor today while holding it to my ear with my shoulder. I honestly don't do it that much so I'm not even sure if it was a problem or I actually let it get too far from my face. Just accidentally punched in 9 while on hold. I also have pretty poor reception in my neighborhood (if I go 1/2 mile either way I can almost get full bars) but sometimes it's enough to drop or miss calls because of the poor reception (not because of the antenna issue). I keep logging in complaints on AT&T's app. Hopefully it will help.

I haven't gotten to FaceTime with any of my friends back in Oklahoma so I'm still looking forward to that. Overall, very elegant design now that I have it in my hands and look at it every day.

this phone is so good... no reception issues, no proximity sensor issues.. it is so amazing..

now to call Bell retentions and use my leverage as a way to get a better deal :D

wish me luck!

I'm sure everything has been covered, but I'll post my first impressions as well. Also, I've owned every iPhone since the original came out, so I'll try to compare if I can remember.

Out of the box, the phone felt great. My hands instantly got accustomed to holding the phone, and every time I held the old iPhone, it felt odd. It simply looks great too. My phone is typically in my back pocket, so thinness is king.

The thing is so snappy! It's lightyears ahead of the 2G and 3G, and considerably faster than the 3GS. No lag when multitasking or returning to the home screen, or launching apps, etc. The A4 processor is FAST. Coupled with the wireless-N protocol, browsing really flies now.

The retina display is so vivid, compared to the old iPhones. First thing I noticed was that the text/font looks so much different (and better) than the previous iPhones. Can't wait for more apps to be optimized for the screen. Nanosaur 2 has been optimized, and the 3-way gyro on the program makes it quite fun!

I had no reception issues out of the box. I live in an area where 3G coverage is great, so I didn't expect any problems. Since I bought the phone on a whim, I wasn't prepared with a case or skins for the phone so I left the original protector on the phone. The proximity sensor issue presented itself. My ear muted the phone once! I've since added a SGP Oleophobic skin on the front, which solved that issue. With the 4.01 update and the "fixed" signal display, I do notice the attenuation issue, when gripped very tightly. Still, to this day I've had no dropped calls or data performance issues.

The camera takes really, really good photos. See here. The flash is super bright. First thing I did was download a flashlight app. No more using the screen as a flashlight! Facetime seems to work great. And after jailbreaking and installing 3G Unrestrictor, I can now Facetime over the network! I can't wait for more apps and phones to catch on with this. After all, it's open source.

Battery life is spot on! After work everyday, the iPhone is usually at ~80%, with some minimal use. Additionally, I work in the interior of a huge building, so my coverage is horrible. It's constantly switching between one bar and no service, thus using the battery. Still though, not bad! I typically watch some videos, surf the web, and play a game or two before going to bed. The iPhone usually remains at 40-50% before popping it into a charger for the night.

Overall, I'm highly impressed and glad I updated. I'm playing with the phone a lot more than before.

So far so good!! I've had a few dropped calls, but I just got it and don't have a case or bumper yet. Battery life seems decent...and the camera is great. Still exploring and enjoying it!:)

The Retina Display is amazing! My eyes aren't the best but the display clear and legible at all times.

Also it looks like the image on the display is painted on the screen, it looks so great that it looks like one of the painted on screens on those demo/fake phones they have at phone stores.

I got the 32GB a few days ago and I used it to the point that I can't return/exchange.

I have the issue. My Black Bumper is on it's way so we'll see what happens but other than that, I love it!

I'm even starting to get into Apps, which I dismissed while I was on CrackBerry (Bold 9000, then 9700).

I have no complaints with my iPhone4. I've had it a little over a week and have used it quite a bit. The camera exceeds my expectations as does the Retina screen. The processor is also leaps and bounds faster than the one in the 3G. I love using it and can imagine myself happy with it for a couple of years to come. Thanks :apple:

I've been trying very hard not to write this...

...but I can't help it anymore - the iPhone 4 sucks

Yes - the screen is amazing, the camera is amazing, etc etc etc

I have owned every single iPhone (all four generations) - imo, the iPhone 3G was the most awful, mainly because the processor couldn't keep up with the apps - the best EVER was the iPhone 3GS - the body was impossible to break, but more importantly, it NEVER dropped a call

The iPhone 4, on the other hand, of every iPhone model I've ever owned, has the WORST cell reception and dropped call rates - the signal is weak and around 1/3 of my conversations suffer the fate of a dropped call, compared to my iPhone 3GS, which I always felt confident about, in terms of maintaining calls

And YES - my iPhone 4 has a BUMPER and 4.0.1

For tech sake - my model is #A1332 and the Serial number stars with an "82"

According to Gizmodo forums, the A1332 models, with serial numbers that start with 8's are all duds - I believe it

Anyways - I agree with Consumer Reports - get the iPhone 3GS - avoid the iPhone 4 - its garbage with a nice screen and camera

Bought mine yesterday! I'm really happy with it. I come from the original iPhone and 3GS, so I already knew whT to expect, but honestly I wasn't ready for the build quality of this thing. It's almost perfect, I say almost because there's a line in my screen. Looks like a scratch, but it's not. It's inside the glass. Anyhow I'm not gonna take it back, it doesn't really bother me, you can only see it in white backgrounds. Besides it makes my phone unique, I think it gives it character :p so yeah conclusion I'm in love with my phone. I'll post pictures of the line if you guys are interested.

I finally got my iPhone 4 on August 25. Even though my country Malaysia will still gonna be a long way to get the iPhone 4 official launch, I managed to order via Singapore Apple Store and have a friend send over to Malaysia.

My 1st impression using Facetime was awesome! I guess, this FT feature when available with many other devices such the upcoming iPod Touch (maybe), it will certainly be a big hit.

I immediately purchased a silicon frame for the iPhone 4. Don't want to have any scratches, right?
:D

iPhone 4 is great the new Retina Display is out of this world. I can not believe how crisp it is incredible. I have all the iPhone since its launch in July and as they say the biggest increase since the first iPhone.

Please don't flame - this is my personal experience and I'm not trying to bash.

I am returning my iphone 4.

I've had two on different networks, and I cannot believe how bad these things are at obtaining reception and 2G/3G /3.5G handovers. Unless you are on HSDPA, forget about using any data services. I've been using it side by side with a Galaxy S on the same network, and whilst the reception hasn't varied hugely between them, the Galaxy S smokes the IP4 for data and rendering time for web pages. The IP4 sits there thinking for about 15 secs, and Galaxy S just gets on with it. If it has a HSDPA signal, its usable. If it doesn't, forget it.

And that's not even holding the phone in my hand, so no death grip issues here. Coincidentally, the Galaxy S's reception also plummets when you grip it!

it's a shame, because the UI, Apps and general user experience are completely unrivalled by any device from any manufacturer. Also, the phone looks and feels amazing. The galaxy S just seems like a toy in comparison (but that screen is AMAZING...).

Like I said though, as a device this thing is untouchable. I'll be surprised if anyone ever catches up with Apple!

I'm secretly hoping that Apple will issue a revised IP4 (perhaps when the white one comes out and the bumper scheme finishes??)

I've had my phone for about six days now and I simply love it. Upgrading from a 3G, the iPhone 4 is definitely an upgrade. The screen, build, speed, etc. is such a great upgrade. I tried to test out the reception problem and I could not replicate the antenna problem a number of people have reported. I bought an InCase slider case in black and love that case. This phone is great. I think I made the right choice by purchasing the 32GB.

I got mine this evening. Porting my line from vzw took 15 min. I was able to prevent reception of SMS using the death grip. O well, I don't mind. I downloaded the free case app. Wouldn't ya know, my free case arrives just as my 30 day return period runs out. O well, I don't expect to be returning this thing. Overall I'm very happy so far and I've already brought over apps from my iPod touch. I took the low data plan. U know what? My data usage this evening is 230 k. That's k not Meg. By shutting off cell data when I'm not around wifi, I can skate along for $15 a month. And to think big red was soaking me for $30 a month when I averaged 6 Meg monthly on my old blackberry.
