I'm really diggin this new iPhone. I'm not going to talk about the obvious improvements such as the display, build quality, speed, camera, etc, but here are some of my observations:

The battery life is phenomenal. After 4 hours and 12 minutes of real use (though only about 45 of that was on 3G); video, music, games, and so on, the battery is at 52%. So great to not have to worry so much about the damn battery.

The signal quality: I have really bad signal in my house, usually about 1 bar. The i4 is just about the same as my 3gs...maybe a little worse. When I was in town though, I had full 3g the whole time. The wifi has a much longer range though. I don't have a wireless N router, just a normal G, yet I was able to walk at least 30 ft further away then my 3gs and still have signal.

And I've seen some people ask about the gps, well, THE GPS IS UTTERLY AMAZING! With my 3gs, I was driving off the road, sometimes way off the road, and the movement was jittery. But on the i4 it was perfect accuracy. I mean perfect. Even at a part in the road where I had 1 bar of signal, the map scrolled fine and the accuracy was still perfect. I think I might actually get the TomTom or Navigon app now. Very impressive.

Everything else, I'm sure we all know about by now, so I want bother with my impressions. Overall, the phone is almost perfect. I do wish the cell signal had been improved, but it doesn't seem to be worse, so whatev. I'm very satisfied.

edit: another cool thing I noticed, that I'm not sure if it's the iOS4 or the phone, but when turning 3g on, my 3gs would totally drop the signal, have no coverage for a few moments and then pick up the cell signal again. But when I turned 3g on with the i4, it just stayed on Edge for a few seconds and then switched to 3g without ever dropping signal. Not any huge deal, but I liked it.

I haven't really explored this item yet. But I did try the Kindle app and it's very nice with the high resolution. At the smallest font setting it's perfectly readable. The larger fonts now look huge.

I didn't read anything with the 3G. But I sure as heck am going to go for this.

Also, folders is welcome (overdue really).

I guess there's a bunch of new things I have to look into when I get the time.

Does anyone know if you can buy a phone without a contract at bestbuy or radioshack or any other store without a contract

so one really cannot buy an iphone at the no-commitment price at an apple store?

so one really cannot buy an iphone at the no-commitment price at an apple store?

I really hope this is not the case. I have an online order that is shipping early but found out I can pick one up tomorrow from Apple (a friend is saving one for me). Apple used my upgrade on the online purchase and now I'm not eligible for my in store purchase tomorrow. They better not say I can't get it.

Really?

All these posts are a hoax, I can't believe this...NOBODY is getting their iPhone 4 today...I don't know why people keep posting these fake threads. Good try though.

Please post your evidence prior to making such accusations. The Internet is abuzz with the FedEx deliveries, contrary to your suspicions.

Ok so far loving the new phone...but my only concern is when I sync'd my new 4 to set up as my 3GS was I have a less space. I had to delete a bunch of apps, music and it won't sync my photos. Hmmmmmmmm. Now off to figure out why.

The build quality is really amazing, it feels great in hand. Screen is really nice also. It's very fast, GPS locks onto my location very quickly. Facetime is pretty cool. I tried it out with my girlfriend and the voice quality is very nice, picture is pretty good also. I love it, it really does make the 3GS look and feel like a piece of crap.

Omg, totally loving my 3GS!

Thought I'd be different.

(Its alright 3GS, I still love you...)

:p

i cant connect to the internet for some strange reason, i'm waiting for my new simcard to be activated so maybe its connected to that?

It wont even connect to my home wifi, so?... any ideas?

AT&T is way better than the rest

I am in the SF Bay Area, and I must agree. I have never had the sorts of problems with AT&T that I keep hearing about. Not that I don't believe the stories, but I sometimes wonder whether the sources (including the media) are overrepresented in high cell traffic problem zones. Plus, the service I've received from AT&T has been higher quality than those times I had to work with Verizon CSRs prior to my iPhone purchase in 2007. Pogue's/NYTimes review got the balance right at his conclusion, I think, by including the AT&T caveat while emphasizing the fantastic advances in the iPhone 4.

Living in the bay area too and agree with u that AT&T has been the greatest experience since switching from Verizon. Used to have so many dropped calls per day and now that is no longer the case.

As iOS4 has screwed my 3G I suppose I will end up buying a 4 - which no doubt is exactly why Apple screwed the 3G by allowing iOS4 to install on them

I received mine on the 23rd. Great build quality. No yellow spots and I cannot yet reproduce the signal issue. It's a great device so far

The phone is amazing. I am a little disappointed about app data being difficult to move outside of a restore, which I chose not to do.

I really wanted my PingChat ID to remain the same.

The screen is more clear than I could have thought.
Video is really HD Quality.
The LED flash is actually a little to bright.
The Camera takes great images

The size is great, better than all the previous phones.

The build quality is excellent, and the display looks much sharper than it does on my 3G model. But based on my limited calling on it (I've only had the phone a little over an hour), it sounds much better than it did on my 3G phone, and I was able to get reception in places I couldn't get it before. As for the reception problem, I covered the sides of the phone completely with both hands and didn't experience any signal decline.

What interests me most is the build quality. I realize only a few have reported receiving theirs early but I'm wondering if/when we're going to see the same reports of poor build quality that we had with the 3G/S.

My biggest concern is the home button. Is it clicky like the first gen? Or mushy like the 3G/S?

It's more clicky than the 3G/S, something like the 1st gen. It has a nice feel to it.

Absolutely amazing. This is by far the best iPhone yet. They have done everything right. The retina display makes the text look like you could pick it up right off the screen its so real. I love the glass display and I love the metal around the sides. Got mine yesterday and havent put it down since. No troubles with the yellowing of the screen or dropped calls yet. (knock on wood) AMAZING

Totally rad!

I got my iPhone 4 yesterday, and its pretty amazing. The screen is much sharper than my 3GS, and having a flash on the camera is great. The new hardware design is cool. I love having a flat back like the original iPhone. I'm not sure I'm in love with the separate volume buttons. I think I liked the rocker better. No problems with the screen or signal strength.

Amazingly thin, screen is unreal, bumper case is really slick and seems like it will provide good drop protection.

This former-3G user is 1000% impressed!

I can't believe how fast everything is! Did my phone used to be like this with its original software? I can't rememember but I don't think it was...

Things just happen...like...instantly. I really can't believe it. Forget the iPad...this is Apple's actual magical device!

Everything else...yeah yeah....great camera, great screen, solid design...that's all good. But the speed of this processor is what's blowing me away right now.
