Well after setting it up the phone is cool, but it sucks on signal compared to both my 3g and 3gs
all 3 side by side,
3g gets 3 bars of 3g,
3gs gets 3 bars of 3g
iphone 4 gets one bar of edge!
doing web is pretty much useless at home, but the phone looks cool

Just got my 16GB iPhone 4 and my initial reaction was..."this screen is phenomial". It's crazy how clear it is. I love how the UI looks on this compared to my old 3GS. Best iPhone update so far and hopefully more to come!

Posted from my iPhone 4 :)

Screen lives up to the hype.
Watched my digital copy of Up! And it looked so vibrant.
My biggest worry...
I have owned the 3G and and I have never feared about dropping them.
This phone is like a slick glass bar of soap. Seems like it wants to slip out of my hand whenever I hold it.
Can't wait to get a case for it.

First impressions

I'm upgrading from a 3G.

First thing I noticed is the response time of opening apps and switching between them. I always attributed my sluggish 3G to old age...but man this thing is blazing fast. (I guess that's how you 3GS users felt from your upgrade before).

Screen...yeah every one has said it...and no picture I've seen online really does it justice. It's beautiful. Someone said it best on here... it's your phone in HD.

Camera has been great videos too... sending videos to friends via mms compresses the video down to your basic looking cell video. I haven't quite figured out how to export to a higher quality format.

One little thing (I haven't heard anything on this) was when I was in a phone call to reset my voice mail and I had to type a series of numbers... zip code, ssn yada yada yada with the keypad every time I stopped and listened to the next set of instructions it put a space in between each of the sets of numbers. Doesn't sound like that big of a deal but if you pay for bills with your phone sometimes it's nice to see the series of numbers split up instead of a long continuous thread of numbers. Something little but I appreciated it.

On another note if anyone could help me with this I would greatly appreciate it:

I set my phone up as a "restore from back-up"... well long long ago I did the jailbreak thing... honestly didn't like it. Felt like it slowed my phone down. So I restored it back to factory settings. HOWEVER one thing that never became "un-jailbroken" was the "make-it-mine" setting. So instead of AT&T being my "carrier" my first name is. Now that was all fine and dandy but I honestly want it back to AT&T and it won't change. I thought with new hardware it would change. But it didn't. (henceforth I wish I would have just set it up like a new phone) Anyone have any suggestions on how to get my name off the phone? Doing a "factory restore" won't work. Is there an option to do a factory restore and then set the phone up as a new phone again? I don't want to go through that process if it's not an option.

FaceTime is awesome! My boyfriend and I both got our phones today- we were only able to try it out for a few minutes since I'm at work, but it was very cool. I walked around a lot to show him the studio I work in and it was very smooth- didn't seem to stutter or freeze or anything. Voice and video quality seemed great! This feature should be a lot of fun.

So glad to see everything is living up to the hype! Clicked this thread praying for no disappointment. Cant wait till mine comes in!

I cant believe how BLOWN AWAY I am by the new screen. Its so clear

Anyone think the speaker is a little muffled sounding compared to the 3GS? I did a speaker call and it seemed a little more difficult to hear.

I'm blown away by everything.

After my 3 hours of having it, I must say this is the best piece of hardware I've ever owned.

The screen just looks jaw dropping. Amazing clarity.

This thing is about 10x times faster then my iPhone 3G. Searching takes no more then a few seconds and opening up apps takes maybe a second.

The camera is by far the most enjoyable. The HD camera is the absolute best. I always hated walking around with a digital camera, especially if it's one thats not rechargeable like mine; and all the phones I've had that had a camera on it were absolutely terrible. With this I kill 2 birds with one stone. It's convenient and has amazing quality.

Reception has been great for me even though it doesn't look great (bars go up and down). The speaker is also very loud and clear and noise cancellation works like it's supposed to.

Everything on this phone is simply great. I really don't have any complaints about it so far.

volume buttons

a lot of people were unsure of the new round volume buttons, instead of the rocker. seeing all the pre-release pics made me think they were much bigger than they really are. they were the only part of the new design i wasn't too keen on. but in person they are much smaller, and actually look quite nice.

oh, and the display is awesome. ;)

Coming from a 2G, this is worlds better. Faster, smoother, better looking...

My wife has a 3GS and the 4G is even zippier. iOS 4 seems to be smoother in screen transitions as well. The 512 mb of RAM is great as you can open pretty much everything and multitask worry-free without slowdowns.

The screen does look significantly better. The text and graphics appear much richer and contrast/blacks/shadow detail in movies are improved. The screen is really the best improvement and makes the most difference when you compare side-by-side to previous iPhones.

(My Initial Review After 3 Hours)

Here are my initial impressions after 3 hours of iPhone 4 use:

To all those that got their phones early, Enjoy! To those of you waiting, hang in there!

I upgraded from an 8GB 3G to a 32GB 4...

The increase in responsiveness is significant. This thing is f-a-s-t. The screen, "Retina Display," call it whatever but it is very sharp. The device itself feels solid, substantial.

Combined with all of the iOS 4 updates, my iPhone 4 is a welcome change.

I couldn't be happier with it :apple:

It's so fast. Trying to get the sim out is a B*tch. The retina dispaly is really amazing. I thought that was something stupid but the letters are so sharp. Multitasking with pandora worked great with me just wanted to try it out. Overall very happy

Just got mine a little while ago. I'm having issues getting it activated from AT&T, but that's another issue I guess.

I'm coming from a 2G, so the difference is incredible. The speed is ridiculous, and the screen is so sharp that it looks fake to me.

Are you guys restoring from your previous backup or are you starting fresh? Is there any advantage to starting fresh?

actually im pretty sure the first iphone came in 5gb....i may be wrong but im pretty sure im not

Haha I'm positive you are. 2G came in 4G and 8G. No 5 GB. In fact, every model of iPhone has come in multiples of 4. Only 5Gb apple product I am aware of is the early generation iPod, which you may be thinking of.

That aside, phone is amazing...everything I knew it would be, thanks to gizmodo, haha. No issues whatsoever.

So far I like the clarity of the screen, but I have not been overwhelmed with the "retina" display yet. The device reminds me of the black monolith in "2001", I would of preferred all the capabilities in a more smooth form factor like its predecessors.

My God, it's full of Apps.

My first impression is:
HOLY ****!

The screen resolution is AMAZING
The thinness, weight, and glass/steel on the phone feel INCREDIBLY high-end
The video and pictures I've taken thus far blow me away

I was expecting to be let down a bit here and there, but so far I'm nothing but impressed.
