i really have no idea about all this folding stuff, sounds interesting but i have no clue what you guys are talking about most of the time. anyways, i ony started on this about a month ago, and i'm well happy to see that i have now climbed up to 60th place! :D i'm happy with that! hehe. should have a new 970 to run with when they come out too, maybe a couple :)

I now have the Terminal client going in the background, but it's a bummer to watch it take so long on my antiquated 500mhz iBook. Still, it's faster than the graphical variant, so I'll post how long it takes me to get through the p677_TZ2_EXT_342K data unit it's currently whacking.

35K!!!

Amazing work, team. :)

I didn't make that clear? Had the graphical client going. Didn't know what format was fastest, so I chose "alpha" (whatever that was).

Seems to be taking around 20 minutes a frame.

Ah sorry about that, it seemed to me that because the Graphical Client is slow that you got the Command, not that you went from
Graphical ---> Command line.

Sorry bout that...

35 k?
Wow! :D

I'm running the graphical client, usually Hidden and just sitting in the Dock. Is the Terminal client much faster, and if so, how much?

The terminal client is slightly faster because, well the graphics aren't shown, for whatever reason when it rotates it uses 3-6% CPU for a quick time, the terminal is faster this way.

i like it bc it's more transparent, can run behind login windows, and across user accounts. gui is much more limited.

gah.. I've been scratching my head for awhile on why my points arn't going any higher... and yesterday I finally found out why. two reasons...

1) a friend of mine was doing me a favor and turning off all the machines every night :) --> asked him nicely not to :)

2) the newest machines arn't even folding! the permissions on the folding folder are set to Read Only for users... which meant that when I logged on as admin it was on but otherwise no. --> I'll be fixing this on Monday after my B-Day :)

hope to break a five thousand a week by friday so I can be RED on the OCing site ;).

Proteins are long strings of DNA that over a period of nanoseconds to microseconds clump (or fold) into complicated 3d shapes. These shapes form cellular tissue.

Folding can be figured through experimentation, but these calculations do it mathematically. And it takes tremendous amount of processing power.

well not exactly.

DNA -> RNA -> protein

proteins are made of amino acids on the most basic level, not nuclear material.

i don't usually brag, but I'm pretty happy about this.

I'm making over 5k a week, and I'm red on the OCing stats page! :D

I might be getting some more comps under my belt soon too, I'm starting a new job doing IT on the floor above and below me. :)

I think we are all doing great!

.....and I was happy because i temporarily made it to green on the OC site :rolleyes:

Are you challenging mc68k for top spot? Your daily output is higher than his at the moment :eek:

That would be a very slooooooow takeover right now. With 100,000 points difference it will take a while. I'm actually his next target. getting passed sometime in September, maybe.

I think I just got a spike, I don't think I'll challenge mc68k. I do hope to be in the same class as him. The more people who see more large crunchers the more inclined to want to join and help out the team :).
