Unless you are on a mobile share plan, you won't receive any discount. The old plans all had subsidy built in so it makes no sense to not sign a 2 year agreement.

Thanks. Just looked at them out of curiosity. I see what you are saying. Never going to happen as far as I am concerned. The unlimited data tilts the scale any way I look at it as suspected, phone discount or not.

I think you can go to att site and start a new plan on site clicking buy plan etc seeing options as a new person. But yeah. I'm keeping mine, got it for guaranteed two more years with new contract yesterday

Just called Att, was told it is new contract, doesn't touch your UDP. Also you have 2 months to re-establish your data plan if it is gone by mistake. Just check your Att OLAM couple times. (My iPad plan didn't renew last month due to CC problem, called them got it back in 3 minutes, JUST BE POLITE)

The only question I have is 3d party unlock service, I send emails to most reliable services, no answer yet. If you not in a rush you can submit you IMEI constantly at att page and eventually they unlock you, but I travel a lot and cannot wait more than a week. Or I have to travel with my old 6 and this is not cool :)

I'm looking to keep my unlimited data plan. I purchased the iPhone 6 last year on launch day. In years past I was able to renew a 2 year contract at a semi-subsidized price (e.g., last year I paid $549 for the 64 GB iPhone 6).

It's still unclear to me if this will be the case tomorrow. From what I'm reading, I can keep my unlimited data, keep the 2 year contract option by purchasing through AT&T, but what about the semi-subsidized pricing?

Anyone else in this boat?

Try it , you always have an option to return your iPhone , pay 35 dollars restocking and get what you had before. Att has very good CS now. I can compare Att and T-mo, att is better now. I don't think it touches your UDP. But I also believe that this is the last time we can run subsidy, Att will follow VZW way very soon.

I spoke to AT&T customer care yesterday and today, and was told by two different reps that you could still sign up for ATT Next and not lose your grandfathered data.

Ok, I tell that Att CEO next time I see him :)

Tell him that I will make it worth his while by restricting my massive unlimited data usage for ONE month in return... I will stay in the 10-15GB range for a month of his choosing out of solidarity... You're welcome Stephenson.

I was very attached to my unlimited AT&T data too. However, if I switch to T-Mobile, they also offer unlimited data with up to 7GB can be used for mobile hotspot. That is a nice bonus.

I ordered a pre-paid sim from T-Mobile to test out their network in my area to make sure switching won't be ugly. Cost 99 cents, plus $3 1 month connection, plus $10 for a week of 1GB LTE data. $14 to cover myself before making the move, not a terrible waste.

Can't put the sim in my iPhone 6 as they refuse to unlock it at ATT (until I pay ETF if I switch obviously) but my 5S is lying around that ATT did unlock, so I can test it in there.

That is a great idea! Can you use an iPhone that you buy via Next (and pay off) on T-mobile's net work. I was thinking of buying a phone on next and just paying it off or buying a subsidized phone and then paying an ETF... and switching.. but I don't know whether I want to switch. T-mobile is 50 cheaper than att and I won't switch if it is not worth it (decent vs poor service)

I have both t-mo and att in MA. Must admit I like t-mo voice quality, int. roaming(reason I have it) , long distance, tethering, but we still without LTE12 and network is not great. Problems with SMS is another issue. I have more dropped calls with t-mo(problems with handoff, when you get from volte to 4g) and 4g is almost dead in my area.

5s is not the best phone to try t-mobile. If you live and travel to LTE 12 700 regions you should consider t-mo. If you live outside I don't recommend it at all.

Here is the map of LTE 12 700MHz

Whew, my head hurts! So, I'm eligible for an upgrade to the 6s Plus, and I want to keep my unlimited data plan with AT&T. I'm under the 2 year contract (swapped eligibility with my wife's line, so I can upgrade on 9/12: I confirmed this with AT&T and on Apple's website). I pay $70 per month for 450 minutes of talk, ULD, and no texts (pay per text message). I want to get my new phone on the 25th so that I can get my old phone to Gazelle in time to get the price that they quoted to me: it's going to be a tight window. I just want to see if my understanding of my options is correct.

Do I understand this correctly?:

1. I can preorder through AT&T and either get the 2 year contract subsidy or use Next and keep my plan in place. I worry about ordering through AT&T based on last year's situation with many customers shipments arriving long after launch date.
2. I can preorder through Apple and pay full price for an unlocked phone and keep my ULD plan in place.
3. I can preorder through Apple and use Next. I assume that I can keep my ULD with this route, but I'm unclear.

I'd rather avoid the Apple Upgrade program because I don't know what I'm getting with the reservation. Just a date to order the phone in store? Will this route delay delivery?

Again, I wouldn't mind waiting a couple of weeks after launch for the new phone to arrive if it weren't for the need to get my old phone to Gazelle in time, and I don't want to be without a phone for an extended period.

Pipper99, same story here, this thread doesn't get me to finish my day today. I'm at the mood, that I don't want iPhone already :)

1. I think the same
2. Yes
3. Don't know

I am in the exact same situation. And according to the reps I have talked to you - if you order next through apple - you can keep up

My understanding is that existing AT&T customers can still get a 2-yr contract/subsidized iPhone by buying it directly from AT&T. Your post tells a different story. Can you please clarify or let us know what entity told you this? (AT&T customer service pn the phone, AT&T rep in the store, or just a friend, etc.)

Thanks!

You are correct. I checked this information from an AT&T store visit AND I called AT&T on the phone.

Can anyone confirm this part in red? I've spent a couple hours here and elsewhere trying to figure out what to do.

My 2-year contract ends in a few days. I would like to
• buy an unsubsidized iPhone 6S Plus on apple.com
• keep my current ATT grandfathered ULD plan for the moment without starting a new 2-year contract.
• keep my wife's phone on my plan (she bought an iPhone a year ago and has a year to go on her contract).

Is this feasible? This seems to be the best option in the short term for us, then we can revisit things when her contract is up in a year.

If we wanted to end her contract now and both of us move to a new carrier, in exchange for paying ETF other carriers would want her and/or my old phone as a trade-in, right? My screen cracked recently and is not in trade-in condition, and she doesn't want to give up her phone, so it seems like it would end up being more expensive to switch (since without a phone to send in, we'd have to pay ATT for ETF and not be reimbursed by the new carrier) than to buy the new iPhone, stick with ATT, and pay for the ULD plan.

In a year's time, we would have more options in terms of switching if we want to. I don't like paying subsidized contract prices for my paid-in-full new phone, but unlike Next or a 2-year plan it would prevent me from further obligations to stay with ATT.

Any confirmation / advice appreciated.

Why would you do a next plan if you have a subsidy?
All these payments plants all they do is spread the money over 20-24 or 30 months installments.
If you're on old unlimited data and family plans with subsidies the next and mobile share plans will cost you way more.
Dont get sucked into their game, AT&T its doing its best to get everyone off those old plans and off the unlimited iphone data plans and not allowing you to upgrade via apple and other retailers is one of their plans to get you to switch. Making it harder and more limited till many will just give up and say oh well, just switch me then.
You think Apples system cannot handle 2 year upgrades via carrier all of a sudden and only allows for next purchases? Its all a trick, Im not falling for it.
I'm getting it via AT&T and still using my upgrade and not changing my family plan or losing my unlimited data or making monthly payments on a phone.
Preach. When I decide to drop the unlimited & family on 2 year I will be for sure leaving att. They of course anticipate this which is why they still make it technically "available".

So I am ordering from Apple and upgrading my current iPhone. I am not eligible for any subsidy. I will pay full price and switch phones. ATT will probably charge me a $40 to upgrade. I will keep my plan. My plan will not extend.

I have seen nothing that indicates I cannot do this. I went to ATT and looked for eligibility and its says I can pay full price.

I still have my original ULD plan with 450 anytime minutes, and I'm eligible to pay full price/contract free or get on the Next plan through Apple. If I choose Next, I think I can stay on my ULD plan. If I order a full price, contract fee iPhone, do I just pop in the Sim from my current iPhone and my unlimited data plan continues on? Or am I then out of contract and have to choose a different plan? Sorry that I'm so confused.

If you have a AT&T iPhone on a 2 year contract, and you want to keep the 2 year contract, you have to go though AT&T now just to do a standard upgrade, Since Apple took off the AT&T 2 year contract, so they will only let you do the AT&T next plan now, that is if you want to go though apple
