I'm confused why Intel cares so much. I'd guess this is more them trying to show support for the other buyers of their technology. But Macs are, by all accounts, a TINY little part of PC buying. We are told and reminded of that almost weekly. So why are they fighting to get a possible .06% market share for a particular brand? WOuldn't Levano or whomever be better fighting against Dell for actual PC buyers by the million?

Hmm... Apple could have put better graphic cards in their own machines, but they didn't, always opting for low end crap or integrated only. Even the GTX 1050 is a POS for gaming - that's low a bar. There's no reason why Apple couldn't have used discrete GPUs instead of integrated GPUs, as a higher end model for 13" and Airs.

It's entirely Apple's fault for the state of gaming on the Mac, they've never really encouraged it. Apple had the option of using better GPUs, but they didn't.
Show me another $1000 laptop that has better than a GTX 1050 in it, that doesn't weigh 2x as much. Oh, it needs to have 20 hour battery, and i9 performance.

I'll wait.

Games are for kids and adults who can't grow up. Apple has always been and always will be for graphics, editing, and professional uses. Not Childs play.

So are you reasoning that being an Adult means you're just simply some worker drone? There is nothing wrong with someone enjoying a video game. If you're just obsessed with them and do nothing but play games .. well .. clearly there's an issue (IMO), but being an adult in your world sounds rather limiting.

To everyone saying this is a desperation play and underhanded - this is EXACTLY what Apple did with the "I'm a Mac" commercials.

No… if the PC maker made these ads, it would be exactly the same. Intel does not make these. It is a chip maker, bragging about features that have nothing to do with them. Those machines could as easily have AMD processors.

I think it's funny how Intel wants to be known as The Gaming Machine Company after literally building a business as a 'serious, get business done' technology company along the lines of 1960's IBM.

Well it's true, people don't choose a mac for gaming. Everyone building new gaming rigs are going AMD though.
All 300 of them. You think the Mac market is small...those who want to rig out PC's for gaming has to be a tiny fraction of people over the age of 16.

Can anyone really say this advertisement is wrong?

Because it's not. It's 100% accurate. Regardless of the actor.

Anyone that's using Mac knows this is accurate.

You don't need 56 accessories to use a 2 in 1 laptop.

Fact.
I agree, but then I thought, does the majority need accessories and a keyboard? Nope!

Effing sell-out. You do something. You promote something.
You HAVE to stand behind it!

That's why all of these famous people promoting stuff... you cannot take seriously like at ALL.

Of course its wrong its comparing the first iteration of Apple against the an 11 generation chip where Intel still can't get to the 7nm architecture it promised years ago.

As for accessories to use 2 screens on a laptop. If you really needed 2 screens from a laptop you bought the wrong computer!

So how many laptop users are happy to lug around another monitor, or pay for another monitor. Get a desktop!

FACT: to set up a Mac laptop, you know exactly what you are getting its preconfigured, whereas there are a multitude of different boards/settings configurations on the Winter platform. machines, each one potentially causing a problem, as anyone who has had to set them up knows.

the idea on the laptop and the 2 monitors only illustrates how desperate Intel are!

If its a presentation you can use a flash drive and play it on a big tv if you are that keen.

People are trying to build gaming rigs.. but guess what? You can't get a GPU. Period, full stop. Everyone is sold out. So aint no one building a gaming PC currently.

The only way to get a GPU without paying out the nose or waiting 3 months is a pre-built.

Some might say transitions lenses, like the ones you're wearing in your profile picture, are for elderly people. Some might not. Either way I don't think you should gatekeep on the appropriateness of playing video games as an adult.

I find it funny that Intel is promoting a product they don't own (Windows) over a product one of their existing client does own.
If all (or even most) of the Windows laptop manufacturers switch away completely from Intel (pipe dream, I know), these ads are gonna look way too embarrassing.

It would be awesome if Apple got John Hodgman back, as himself, for another set of ads because he's actually a mac user.

Where in the ad did he throw "shade" at the M1? Did you watch the ad or just read the MR article?

Edit: I had to click more of the links in this article to see the throwing shade. My bad on that. Again though, they are outlining things the M1 isn't doing at the moment. (I own two M1 based products and love them btw)

I just watched several of the videos and there’s a couple points to be made, but mostly it seems like the ads lack any real substance. The ads seem to largely point out features that don’t really have to do with differences between the M1 and and Intel processor. for example the choices video showing a lot of different “options” verses apple’s “Grey and greyer” that might be a purchasing decision for some people to pick different color options but how does this point to anything Intel is bringing to the table? the chip in those machines could be AMD, or Samsung, or a Raspberry Pi in a laptop case for all I know.

If intel was going to do this video campaign then they should bring some relevance and substance into the campaign. The closes I really saw was the number of Monitors video. And if you are a gamer then perhaps the gaming video. But even those could be another chip inside (AMD, etc.)

I would agree with other comments - it seems like Intel is scared and desperate. Based on the early reviews of the M1 chip, they probably should be. I can't want to get my hands on a new 16 inch Macbook Pro with an M1 chip later this year!
