LOL, he is an actor. He got paid for being 'a Mac' and he is getting paid by Intel; I don't see any 'conflict' or loss of credibility. From my perspective, Mac users will embrace the new silicon (or not, if they need to dual boot Windows); I may be wrong but I doubt too many hardcore Windows users will be swayed to switch to Apple because of the new silicon SOC. Just, as a Verizon user, I used to enjoy the 'Can you hear me now' commercials; because the actor now works for Sprint isn't going to make me switch carriers. Just my simple-minded opinion...

LOL........ 🤣

meanwhile Intel is getting spanked by both Apple, and AMD in terms of performance.

give it up Intel, your days are done. Just sell your chip business to Apple.

also, there’s a reason Apple never made a touch screen Mac and they will never will to protect Steve Job’s legacy:
I used a touch screen laptop for about 5 minutes once and my arm got so tired and my wrist was sore. Steve was not right about everything, but he was right about the ergonomics here.

Edited, due to my misunderstanding. But I have to say, my daughter has that 7-core GPU on the very base MBA and I cannot tell the difference so far.
For $50 more you can get an 8th GPU core (but only together with 512GB SSD reason), or you can buy an external 1TB drive for Time Machine backups. Much better to use the money for the backup drive.

Remember , he’s a actor. He paid to do this. Actors are paid to lie to us. We pay them (in directly) to lie to us. They create an allusion of something else.
and remember this when they get political.

Some might say transitions lenses, like the ones you're wearing in your profile picture, are for elderly people. Some might not. Either way I don't think you should gatekeep on the appropriateness of playing video games as an adult.
Um transitions are not for elderly people, progressives are. Get it right.

Probably because the Mac was a work platform, the Mac OSX being designed to allow users to navigate operating systems to do what they are supposed to.

Its false to say no one who is a little serious about gaming does...as I know of many professionals involved in games production who are using Macs both in narrative design, coding and all aspects of game construction and production.

Now Apple might have been late on the scene with the amount of games available, but that is changing rapidly.

It's simply because PCs have traditionally been much cheaper and ubiquitous, and esp. with gaming, it moves at such a fast pace that cheaply upgrading is essential. Studios are going to target a primary market first and do ports after.

I agree that things are changing somewhat given iOS gaming, and there may be a greater push for OSX gaming because the M1 offers such advantages, esp. in future iterations with much improved GPU capability.

LOL... its funny to see so many posters wrap up their whole identity with Apple that they cannot believe an actor who played one role can pick to play another role years later.

Effing sell-out. You do something. You promote something.
You HAVE to stand behind it!

That's why all of these famous people promoting stuff... you cannot take seriously like at ALL.
Did you seriously look to Justin Long for your computer buying decisions?

LOL!!!

If Long is still doing ads, why couldn’t Apple have gotten him to be in the “I’m a Mac” ad at the November event? Why only Hodgeman?

Intel has called on the services of former "I'm a Mac" actor Justin Long in a series of new ads in which Apple's latest custom-made M1 processors are cast as inferior to newer laptops powered by Intel processors.

Well known for his role in Apple's popular "Get a Mac" TV ad campaign from the 2000s, Long stars in a series of ads called "Justin Gets Real" on Intel's YouTube channel, beginning each video by introducing himself as "... a Justin – just a real person doing a real comparison between Mac and PC."

In one ad, Long promotes the flexibility of Windows laptops, specifically the Lenovo Yoga 9i versus a MacBook Pro. In another video, Long meets a PC user gaming on the MSI Gaming Stealth 15M laptop, powered by a Intel Core i7. Long then asks for a Mac, before swiftly agreeing with the PC user that "no one games on a Mac."

Other ads include Long throwing shade on Intel's behalf towards Apple's lack of touchscreen Macs, the inability to plug more than one external display into M1 Macs, and the variety of different options available for laptops powered by Intel.

Intel undertook a similar marketing campaign in February with a series of tweets highlighting the "shortcomings" of Apple's M1 powered-Macs compared to Intel-powered computers. In November, Apple released its first Apple Silicon and is expected to fully transition its entire lineup away from Intel over the next couple of years.

This isn't the first time Long has featured in ad campaigns for Apple rivals. In 2017, the actor starred in a series of Huawei commercials promoting the company's Mate 9 smartphone.

This is what it is really all about:
"For perspective, rival foundry TSMC plans to be on the 3nm node in the same time frame as Intel's new schedule for 7nm."

Studios ARE using Macs in producing these games already? The fact they might end up on a PC because the PC has for the time being a greater client base, because the computers were cheaper, albeit not necessary cheaper pro rata.

I'm not exactly an Intel fan and I generally like Apple products but this commercial is right on the money. People want a real 2-in-1 device but Apple refuses too because they can be so arrogant when it comes to demanding how their users use their products. Just make a real 2-in-1 already and stop half-assing it with the current iPad+Magic Keyboard garbage.

Make a laptop where the screen can detach. Detached screen = iPad with an iPadOS like interface. Screen attached and/or entire laptop connected to a keyboard/mouse/monitor = MacOS. I'd buy it on day one.

Or have the current iPad's OS turn into MacOS when connected to a keyboard/mouse/monitor.

This isn't hard.

The real funny and sad thing is the number of Apple evangelists that defend Apple when it comes to stuff like this. They'll scream "laptops shouldn't have touchscreens" yet they'll buy an iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard. They'll also say "2-in-1s are bad" (only because Apple said so) and yet would happily buy 2-in-1 products if Apple released them and claim they're the best thing ever.

Anyway, good commercial Intel and props for hiring Justin Long.

I have a foldable HP Elitebook laptop with touch screen. I tried it as tablet one time, two times, three time, and decided that it is very uncomfortable. The fact that a certain laptop has certain functionality or port, does not necessary mean it is useful, convenient, comfortable, etc. Intel processor or super inefficient compared to M1 and this is a fact.
Yeah. Some people love them; absolutely. I had one for a few years and never ever used it as a tablet or used the touch screen. But the convertible aspect made it thicker and bulkier, not to mention, more expensive.

To each their own and competition is a BEAUTIFUL thing. But I would actually rather use my tablet as a tablet and my laptop as a laptop. I THOUGHT I would love a 2-in-1 but I really didn't.

I used the touch features on a Windows laptop (Dell XPS) once during a car trip. It was nice to view a big PDF file, but I never used the touch screen again, any any computer. I have plenty of hard copy books and magazines to read, so viewing a PDF on a laptop computer, doesn't do much for me.

And then there is the weight issue that @dwaltwhit mentions above - that doesn't help.

Now on a tablet device, that is different (at least for me). I do like using my iPad mini to view electronic versions of magazines and books.

I was done with Apple once they removed full sized USB ports and required a dongle for a USB drive. Built my own PC after using Macs for 17 years. It’s nice to actually be able to run current games and I can even plug a thumb drive into it!

In my language the word for actor is "ethos maker" but i guess that's museum stuff.

Every single one of these “convertible” products have been complete and utter trash. No thank you.

Intel is desperate. They're making false comparisons based on things nobody really cares about. They're terrified of the next round of "Pro" level chips to come from Apple, because the M1 is just a baby first step.
