I don't really care whether Justin Long is in the ad or not. It's just not a very effective ad for Intel. It's just trying to hurt Apple for not making a laptop/tablet combo. At the point everyone wants those, I'm sure Apple will have a very good one.

also, I game just fine on my 5700 XT iMac, thanks.
You're partially lying; you know very well that the 5700 XT in your iMac does NOT perform like a standard 5700 XT found in PCs. Secondly, there's no airflow in your iMac so it will throttle and downclock... and this is especially true for the CPU. Third, your monitors resolution is pretty high for the 5700 XT to run perfectly at 60fps across all games (and any higher FPS doesnt matter because Apple doesnt give a damn to put in a higher refresh rate display on any of their devices). And lastly...... what games? Gaming on Macs is a dead platform.... you're definitely not playing any AAA titles in Mac OS. And if you're using Windows, you're still bottlenecked by the performance.

Actors largely are and will be walking billboards, for products and ideologies, for whomever is the highest bidder.

This ad is actually a fun mind trip since brand association has been totally turned on its head.

Hey leave the guy alone it’s the first pay check he’s gotten in like 10 years
Nope, he did the Huawei ad in 2017. :) The problem with using him in either of these ads is that he is only interesting because he did those ads years ago. When he did the Apple ads, they were not really using him because he was well known, but because he was not and could be the character. Given the length of time since the original ads aired, it seems likely that they are not counting on recognition of his character as much as the press coverage based on his “changing sides”.

I had a 2011 27" imac with the AMD 6900 and played world of warcraft, guildwars 2 and eve online on it just fine. No issues. This was a number of years ago though.
Gaming is all moving to the cloud anyways. Niche market now, but well on it's way to being mainstream. Just a matter of time.

Couldn’t have phrased any of that better myself. People who think they’re doing actual gaming on those kinds of computers are out in the weeds and don’t know what they’re missing

LOL........ 🤣

meanwhile Intel is getting spanked by both Apple, and AMD in terms of performance.

give it up Intel, your days are done. Just sell your chip business to Apple.

also, there’s a reason Apple never made a touch screen Mac and they will never will to protect Steve Job’s legacy:

Personally I feel that if the need or demand exists they would make one, whether or not Jobs felt it was a good idea at his time. It’s like people pointing out the use of a pen device on iPads, you change your product depending on how the market is and after considering what would be a good idea.

That said I could go either way on a touch screen Mac. Personally I use an iPad Pro for most tasks, and when I go back to my laptop I have caught myself a few times reaching towards the screen out of habit before realizing I’m on my MacBook

Agree. If the M1X outperforms every single Intel CPUs (except for 3,000$ Xeon/Threadripper), and the integrated graphics matches a RTX 2060 performance, Intel and AMD would have a very hard time in the next couple of years.

If only Apple would allow me to do with my Mac what I want to do with my Mac and not continue to restrict my access to certain parts of the system up to a point where I get the feeling I'm no longer the owner of the device I just payed a lot of money for. If only...
Meanwhile I'm forced to buy an technology inferior PC with a Intel CPU.

Intel are desperate, on the PC side of things they have competition from AMD now which is hurting them and now they have a legitimate 3rd player too. On a tangent I dislike Intel a lot for their marketing strategy, most so called 'tech' sites and reviewers are shills for Intel and popular benchmarking sites are too.

Regardless of how desperate Intel might be, some claims are actually true.
I doubt Intel processor might be faster than M1. But is true that PCs have more connectivity (more ports), many have touchscreen which is great for many applications.
Macbooks development were negligently denied for 4-5 years since 2016. You can see that in the keyboard and how pathetically Apple tried to fix it over 4 years. Hopefully now they will catch up.

Pretty funny.

Now we have come full circle. Apple did these ads because they were trying to break into the PC market.
Now it is intel/windows who views Apple as the company they need to beat.

considering Apple still has a small share of the pc market. Why is intel/Microsoft so threatened?

Also, if you are a developer and want to be effective running x86 docker images etc... you're probably also better off not getting an M1.

This frankly isn't true. 3 months building and running AMD64 and ARM64 images on a M1 and it is doing the job faster even though it is just a preview of Docker.

Dear Intel, how about allocating the money you spend on marketing to R&D so you can actually brag about it?
Apple can do the same. Apple has been trying to shove up all his customers a Macbook line up since 2016 with a defective keyboard, no ports and no upgradability.

I know everyone is focusing on how powerful the M1 CPU is, and that is true. But the reality is that you do need a combo of dongles to do the job. Anyway at the end of the day , I hope the user should be able to choose whatever fits their needs. I have no problem with Intel nor Mac , as always both company want your money. It's up to you, the user to decide.

He can have those products because they all end up in the scrap heap sooner than later. The fact that he pitches for Huawei "smartphones" says a lot too. He's like a lot of politicians who sell their souls to the Devil in an attempt to get popular with fringe factions. "Sad"

Can anyone really say this advertisement is wrong?

Because it's not. It's 100% accurate. Regardless of the actor.

Anyone that's using Mac knows this is accurate.

You don't need 56 accessories to use a 2 in 1 laptop.

Fact.
It's more a comparison of Windows vs Mac, rather than intel vs M1, though, making the comparisons disingenuous. But yeah, I think some of the comparisons are valid. There are things you can do on a PC that you can't do on a Mac. On the other hand, many of those features are marketing differentiators that aren't actually of much use to the Mac user. And using one of these laptops *as* a computer, if a person doesn't says they don''t understand how much M1 changes the game, they're either blind or dishonest. Speaking of which... I don't need 56 accessories to use either my intel MBP or my M1 MBA.

The dude's just making a living, man 😕
Exactly. They're actors.

It's like the former Verizon "can you hear me now" guy going to work for Sprint (before Sprint was swallowed up by TMO).

That said, are there other examples of product spokespersons going to the competition? These two are the only ones I can think of.

I am a Mac user and love the seamless integration of software and hardware, but it is absolutely true that a 2-1 laptop could be a lot more useful for day-to-day use and maybe an iPad for just browsing and less intensive work. For that reason, I believe this ad is spot on in terms of Mac versus PC, but is says nothing about intel versus Apple new chip!
