If only Apple would allow me to do with my Mac what I want to do with my Mac and not continue to restrict my access to certain parts of the system up to a point where I get the feeling I'm no longer the owner of the device I just payed a lot of money for. If only...
Meanwhile I'm forced to buy an technology inferior PC with a Intel CPU.
You’re absolutely right. M1 is just going to give Apple even more control and impose greater restrictions on the user. I just bought three loaded 2018 minis. I’ll use one of them and file the other two away. There will ALWAYS be a need for Intel.

I want to game I’ve got a PS5 and my iPads

Everything else the Mac rules , intel are acting pretty pathetic imo , like a spurned lover , truly bizarre

The apple silicon roadmap looks utterly awesome, amazing ! Mind blowing!!

No wonder intel are worried , and oh boy they sure are 😂

LOL........ 🤣

meanwhile Intel is getting spanked by both Apple, and AMD in terms of performance.

give it up Intel, your days are done. Just sell your chip business to Apple.

also, there’s a reason Apple never made a touch screen Mac and they will never will to protect Steve Job’s legacy:
Thing is, he was wrong. I know, I use my iPad held vertically in it's Magic Keyboard, like a laptop, all the time. And I often find myself wanting to tap buttons on the screen when I'm using a normal laptop.

I expect that apple will add long lasting non compete clauses to future actor engagements.
This is not the first time it has happened, nor will it be the last. Clara Peller, the woman made a star by the Wendy’s Where’s the beef? ads later appeared in an ad for Prego spaghetti sauce. It is rarely a meaningful issue for the original brand, however, it can take away some of the actor’s credibility in the new ad. In this case, I am not sure it really matters. :)

OMG, I don't know what I love more - the ad or the comments. Bruised a few egos... Calling out Apple for the dongles is awesome.

M1 is the FUTURE BOW DOWN TO YOUR MASTERS

It is odd that Intel choosing to bash Apple right now when AMD used to be Intel's worry. I wouldn't buy another Intel-based system. Our work's laptops went to complete **** due to Intel vulnerability mitigation. For home desktop I chose AMD. My next laptop will probably be a M2 (or whatever the next rev is called).

Ugh...that seems desperate on both Justin & Intel's part.

EDIT: I get that he's just making a living; so are the folks at Intel.

My point with Justin's flip-flopping is that seems desperate (like when the Verizon spokesperson moved to Sprint; it is hard to tell if the move is genuine in those scenarios.). I have nothing against Justin Long - may he have a long and flourishing career!!!

I doubt Justin himself has much of a position on the PC vs Mac debate. He's (quite literally) a paid actor. Intel is the only one here who will appear a bit desperate for people who even remember who played Mac in the Mac vs PC ads.

To everyone saying this is a desperation play and underhanded - this is EXACTLY what Apple did with the "I'm a Mac" commercials.
So NOT true. Apple handled no hardware. They only talked about Mac benefits. And I just love that you had to dig up Apples ad from well over 10 years ago to make your non-point. Try again. 😂

Truly an act of desperation.

For one, Apple still sells Intel Macs.

Second, you are just helping to advertise the fact that Apple does sell M1 Macs.

Intel clearly has no idea why people buy Macs. These ads aren’t going to win any converts.

I don't really get what Intel is so afraid of? It's not like Apple us going to outsell every intel based windows machine out there. There's so much saturation in the PC market that you'd think Intel would have nothing to worry about. Plus, the M1 is no threat Because Apple doesn't sell chips. The only thing I can think of is that the industry might move away from x86 to ARM. I just don't get it.

What you a few others here are saying is true but actors are supposed to believable characters. That’s how the ad sells the product. For him to be well known for the Mac guy then changes to an Apple trashing ad it appears hypocritical no matter which way you look at it!

Sadly I bought a Thinkpad Yoga (similar to the one in the video) as my daughter's first computer. Have always been a Mac user. She was raised a Mac user, but she wanted a computer and tablet in one because she loves Affinity Designer. The Thinkpad Yoga is one hell of a solution. I wish Tim would use one for a week or two. BTW, we spent quite a lot so this was NOT a price-driven decision (the X1 we got was pretty expensive, but nicely loaded). BTW2: Thanks Affinity for such a great product, and porting to Windows.
Why is it sad?

What part of actors are paid to lie don't you get.

And how many really, really good paying jobs in your profession do you turn down? I'm sure Intel made it worth is while. There is nothing wrong with Justin, but some people need to move back into the reality zone.
What part of free will don’t you get. He can easily be paid for many other gigs, he’s Justin long.

but out of all the gigs, he chose one that was in direct competition of his former clients. He made the choice.

Some people need to move back to reality and understand actors are not computer programs but people who make choices. Justin chose to do this.

Yeah, and it's intels friggen fault. Their integrated GPU was such potato. What does Apple sell the most of? Low end Intel Airs/Pros without dedicated GPUs. Mac game developers were trying to get blood from a stone when it came to performance.

So, the current state of Mac gaming is mostly Intels fault IMO. Sure, Apple not continuing with OpenGL, or adopting Vulkan hasn't helped things.. but the bottleneck until the M1 has been the piss poor Intel GPU.

I pray Apple gets their head out of the butts and adds proper Vulkan support to macOS.. that combined with the reasonably decent M1 GPU - remember, the Air/Mac mini has basically a GTX 1050 - which is plenty for medium gaming @ 1080p, might turn things around on the gaming front.

Intel's fault? Apple is the one just offering discrete graphics on very few models - and even on the desktop they're using mobile graphics when they're not using integrated. Apple don't even have models where using powerful GPUs is possible, unless you count the Mac Pro which is not a gaming platform.

They've also stayed away from the vendor who has dominated the GPU performance benchmarks for many years.

The solution for gaming for MacOS users is a good console.

I agree!

It does seem desperate on the part of Justin. For people saying it's just a job, there are a lot of actors who pass up on roles to maintain their image. Him doing this is not going to do him any favors, even though I'm sure the money he got made it worth it. I don't think Intel will benefit much... They look like they're more interested in exploiting old memes than creating ground breaking hardware.

I've always disliked commercial actors who later turn on the company they advertised (another example being the "can you hear me now?" guy). Absent a truly compelling reason (other than just getting paid by a competitor), this practice seems like a low blow. Perhaps Long needed this particular paycheck to feed his family, but I can't help but think he could have gotten other work instead.

Sure but that's like saying actors who play the superhero in one movie can't play a villain in the next. Long has done other PC ads like for Huawei's Matebook. It's not likely that Apple is bringing him back in any case since John Hodgman was the only one who was in the event ad last year, so he might as well get that extra money from Intel. Besides, if you look at the YouTube comments and the like/dislike ratio this ad clearly backfired on Intel.

Funny how intel trash the parts of the M1 Mac that are identical to the intel macs. Translation: dont buy an M1 Mac and don’t buy an intel Mac either. Slow clap.
