So it’s just your preference. Somebody playing Stardew Valley on the iPad after work for hours a day is a serious gamer in my eyes. Non serious gamers would be playing candy crush every so often at the doctor while you wait.

I love it when someone complains about 1080p gaming on a laptop, implying they will get some sort of amazing 4k experience on anything but a desktop PC. Windows or Mac, notebook or laptop gaming is
Personally, I thought this M1 promotion by Apple is more pathetic:

This ad talks about the actual features of the M1 chip. The benefits. It is a great ad. It is on point for the message apple was advertising vs the intel ad that was not really for intel because honestly, the same thing could be said about intel or AMD, as a Windows machine can have either.

That is very unclear messaging vs this which is clear.

Intel is afraid, and has every reason to be.
Apple has brought about a paradigm shift. It will catch the rest of the industry sooner or later.

Why Intel wasn’t prepared for this, I don’t understand. How long have we been hearing rumors that there would be an ARM Mac. Don’t they take apart their competitors processors and analyze them in detail?

There is a great coldfusion video on youtube that covers intel. Two parts. In the second part we learn that intel has been sued over and over due to many different bad business practices, and that i feel combined with their extreme dominance led to them taking longer than they had to for innovation.

If they were slow to embrace change and could not see the generational leaps apple was making in their devices each time an iPhone came out, that again might have been due to all the drama they had internally.

Do people think people actors really believe in their commercials? Maybe some do but most are just earning a living. You think the in-shape fitness actors in coke commercials really loveeee drink Coke. I doubt it.
I know an actor who starred in a well known phone commercial (big android maker) who has an apple.

Before going to Mac, I had a Surface Pro.
Ever try and use one of those in tablet mode?

Try as I might, I could never enjoy the experience.
Windows is not a tablet OS.

I would rather have a great tablet and great laptop than an all in one that was decent, but not great at either.

You're doing exactly what your complaining about; my PC can connect to hard drives with USB-C [and A]...and does anyone "hook" up a mouse these days?
Most PCs only have two USB-A ports. Or worse, in Microsoft’s case a USB-A only in some models.

So do the math - 3 devices that need USB any type with a product that only has two or sometimes one.

Yep. I have 400 hours in Stardew Valley, 500 hours in Terraria, 600 hours in Factorio, 115 hours is Satisfactory, 270 hours in Borderlands 2, about 90 for all the times I replayed Halo. And this is just PC! I also have 400 hours in Persona 4 and 5 on console. It’s my entertainment after a long stressful work day. Most of this was done at 1080p. How does that make me a not serious gamer?

Even eSport gamers would prefer 1080p at 240Hz vs a higher resolution display at lower refresh rate.

Poor Intel, this looks sad. They've truly lucked out with the demand from the shut in during this year, but with their main CPU fab process is still stuck at the same 14nm they started using when the iPhone 6 was released they're truly against the wall going forward (they've lost Apple and AMD is starting to eat their lunch on high end CPU's).

They have to get their main stream processors on 10nm or smaller for gen 12 or its going to be done for them.

Some comments are comical accusing Justin Long of this and that. You do realise that Morgan Freeman is not the President and The Big Bang Theory actors were not real scientists.
Mayim Bialik is a real scientist, and of course he is not President of the United States, he is an ex-con living in Mexico with Andy Dufresne.

Ugh...that seems desperate on both Justin & Intel's part.

EDIT: I get that he's just making a living; so are the folks at Intel.

My point with Justin's flip-flopping is that seems desperate (like when the Verizon spokesperson moved to Sprint; it is hard to tell if the move is genuine in those scenarios.). I have nothing against Justin Long - may he have a long and flourishing career!!!
Justin Long is an actor. Actors play roles that often have nothing to do with their real lives, so being "genuine" is not really something worth considering.

Intel 11th gen mobile is 10nm. More headroom for performance and lower power when they decide to go 7nm or 5nm. Meanwhile, M1 is already capped at 5nm so only gain is through IPC improvement.

This will upset the gaming snobs, I play my xbox series x......on a 1080 tv! I have a 65" LG 4k OLED in the living room that's part of my home theater but it's just much more comfortable to play in my den on my 1080 vizio.
Oh I have played it on my 4k tv. I really don't see a huge resolution difference playing at 1080. It's mostly the HDR I miss. But honestly, it's fine for now.
But i'll upgrade the OLED to a larger one this year and perhaps i'll put the series X back on that one. Or perhaps i'll put a larger 4k in the den and continue to play there. Either way, not a big deal.

I guess though my point is that most gamers are never getting 4k60 on a laptop unless you have something costing $4000 and highly specialized for gaming.

Then at that point, they are not playing stardew valley which can run on an eight year old android phone. They are playing Doom or other AAA fps games for that price point.

I watch a LOT of technology channels. When you get to that performance, you are getting a machine that weighs like 6 lbs and puts out so much fan noise you need to wear headphones.

Not to say you have bad taste in gaming. I like Stardew Valley too. Just that those are not AAA titles that people WANT to run past 1080p in most cases.

Equating PCs with an overweight man gasping for air is "talking about actual features"? I guess we have to agree to disagree. Besides, I have PCs that run circles around Apple's M1 computers. And my Intel-based Macs run fairly cool and quiet. I use a Mac as my main computer, but that's because of MacOS and not because of Apple's hardware.

LOL. It took intel how many years go get to 10nm? The real benefit as I understand it of the M1 architecture is the fact that the CPU/GPU/RAM all share the same bus.

It is much faster at most tasks.

The fact these are apparently being scaled from what the rumor mill says to 32 and 64 and I read even 128 cores needs to scare the dickens out of Intel.

Imagine a faster version of the M1 running on 64 cores all at the same time, with very little overhead as it is an SoC vs x64, all the while with a unit that consumes under 50 watts of energy.

From a technical level, this is where intel cannot compete until they can launch their own ARM64 solution, and even then they are limited to what Microsoft and software makers do.

Did you read the last part of the message? Esports would prioritize 1080p with insane refresh rate even on those AAA titles. And yes I play the 2016 Doom and GTA and many other AAA titles too. Not everyone cares about more than 1080p.

And there is nobody more serious about gaming than someone in esports. It’s their life.

It's odd that at the beginning of the ad, he says he's going to do a comparison between Mac and PC. Then, he picks up the Intel device and says "PC" and then he picks up the MacBook Pro and says "Got a laptop, and it's just a laptop." Strange thing to say. I would think the script would've called for him to pick up the Mac and say, "Got a Mac and it's just a laptop."
This is easy. Having a "laptop" is bad. It's boring. Your dad and his dad before him had a "laptop." You want whatever Intel is calling a laptop/tablet hybrid thing this financial quarter. Referring to the Mac as a "laptop" is the highest form of insult for "young people."

Guy's just trying to earn some coin. He never had loyalty to Apple, just starred in some adverts!

No the ad talks about fan noise, heat etc. The lack of these are all features of the M1 chip.
The character in the ad is a metaphor, but intel failed to see that.

Intel took Justin Long who was symbolic for the "cool" and "hip" mac and just made him Justin. The first lines of the ad are "I am justin" so he does not suddenly represent the brand, but himself.

Is Justin Long himself the "mac guy?" No, he was the mac himself. The ad is weak and I do not think it is very impactful. Matter of fact, the like to dislike ratio and comments section on that video are symbolic for how much it failed.
