Intel has called on the services of former "I'm a Mac" actor Justin Long in a series of new ads in which Apple's latest custom-made M1 processors are cast as inferior to newer laptops powered by Intel processors.

Well known for his role in Apple's popular "Get a Mac" TV ad campaign from the 2000s, Long stars in a series of ads called "Justin Gets Real" on Intel's YouTube channel, beginning each video by introducing himself as "... a Justin – just a real person doing a real comparison between Mac and PC."

In one ad, Long promotes the flexibility of Windows laptops, specifically the Lenovo Yoga 9i versus a MacBook Pro. In another video, Long meets a PC user gaming on the MSI Gaming Stealth 15M laptop, powered by a Intel Core i7. Long then asks for a Mac, before swiftly agreeing with the PC user that "no one games on a Mac."

Other ads include Long throwing shade on Intel's behalf towards Apple's lack of touchscreen Macs, the inability to plug more than one external display into M1 Macs, and the variety of different options available for laptops powered by Intel.

Intel undertook a similar marketing campaign in February with a series of tweets highlighting the "shortcomings" of Apple's M1 powered-Macs compared to Intel-powered computers. In November, Apple released its first Apple Silicon and is expected to fully transition its entire lineup away from Intel over the next couple of years.

This isn't the first time Long has featured in ad campaigns for Apple rivals. In 2017, the actor starred in a series of Huawei commercials promoting the company's Mate 9 smartphone.

There are some thumbs down on the Intel video...
And from YT comments section one of the greatest line: "Half Laptop. Half Tablet. Half good?"

Also. I got a Mac Mini M1 and had to return it. For some things is not as good as they say it is. especially when dealing with things that require heavy GPU.

Not that clever, I could've made better talking points. They pointed out none CPU related stuff, even gaming is primarily GPU issue for Mac as the M1 will certainly handle it. Keep in mind pre-M1, Macs used Intel graphics :)... They touted dongles and touch screen, touche but those are not Intel CPU related as those laptops can switch to AMD tomorrow without missing a beat.
It's very clever. It's getting press. It's getting people like you to take time out of their day to comment on how you think it's not clever. We're at 19 pages and counting. About an ad.

As for "talking points," you do realize that's not the purpose of advertising, right?

Also:

Yeah. Pretty clever.

You can say what you want, but that is a very clever ad with a lot of truth in it.
Nevertheless I love my Macs.

If I had to guess, this is Intel trying to keep the brand in front of people long enough that they can develop their own ARM solution, or at least compete with AMD on specs.

Time will tell. Future is interesting.
They are not a consumer brand; 99% of PC's are bought by people who have no concern / idea what is inside their device...as long as "I can get the interenet on it"

Can anyone really say this advertisement is wrong?

Because it's not. It's 100% accurate. Regardless of the actor.

Anyone that's using Mac knows this is accurate.

You don't need 56 accessories to use a 2 in 1 laptop.

Fact.
True, unless you also account the 2-3 complete intel based computers you need to buy over the life cycle of a single Mac. Not to mention the hours of time wasted troubleshooting Intel hardware and Windows software.

You don’t need 56 accessories to use a Mac either. If the two in one feature is a plus for you, great. Enjoy it. Based on sales and ranking numbers though it seems Apples approach is the more successful one though.

19 pages of comments on this. Come on. It is mildly amusing/bemusing at most.
It’s part of an identity. Funny things like this guy is -in part- what makes the Mac a bit special. Maybe if Steve Jobs was still around this wouldn’t have happened.

Free advertising for Apple. Intel is only reminding people that Apple has laptops and iPads for sale. They are not going to convince anyone to get Windows PC instead of a Mac lol

First M1 buyers are the beta testers for Apple’s quality control team! Welcome abroad!
I was debating picking up an M1 MBP for this very reason. But, I can say after a few months of using it, it's just like my 2020 Intel MBP. That's both in terms of build quality and performance. The M1 doesn't blow me away in terms of speed, it's on par with my i7, but the battery does last a heck of a lot longer. And no heat, that's a huge plus for a laptop.
