Can anyone really say this advertisement is wrong?

Because it's not. It's 100% accurate. Regardless of the actor.

Anyone that's using Mac knows this is accurate.

You don't need 56 accessories to use a 2 in 1 laptop.

Fact.
Sure.... How are 2-in-1's actually, though?

I mean, 2-in-1's are just different variations of the x86 MS Surface tablet Pro devices that where supposed to save us from Apple and their ecosystem lock-in and most donglely of dongles. They had !!!USB!!! and more importantly you could install and run Adobe Flash (for the FULL web experience), they let you connect external storage drives, since they were build *Intel* processors and full fat complete Windows, you could run *any* x86 software, full complete Adobe Photoshop with a -stylus- none the less, no limited feature tablet software versions, no app store lock-in, and you could just pick up and go with them to whereever.

If 2-in-1 are actually great - not just great in concept, theory, and marketing sales pitch - why aren't they replacing the tablet market? Or is it really just a terrible tablet?

But, 10 years later and countless revisions later, the Surface Pro and 2-in-1's in general... they're just as niche as everyone said the original iPhone would be.

It’s part of an identity. Funny things like this guy is -in part- what makes the Mac a bit special. Maybe if Steve Jobs was still around this wouldn’t have happened.

I don't think hiring an actor that was in an Apple TV commercial campaign that ended circa 2009 to say "ooh intel nice" and compare laptops to ipads affects Apple's identity in any way. And unless Steve Jobs was going to pay him more $$$ to not do the commercial that is a moot point as well.

Intel should focus on making better cpu. Instead of bashing Apple they should ask themselves why the LOST Apple as a customer.

Apple has done this before with IBM/Motorola Power PC.

And why Intel? Microsoft is like, we know better.
I don’t know who is giving Intel such bad advice, they are the dominant force in computer chips by far. This makes them look weak. Why?
They dominate the market but not the technology. Even AMD is firmly ahead in the x86 game now and has been for years. It's only a matter of time before Intel loses its hold unless this changes.

^ I've been hearing the above for many years, btw, but it's actually true now. I always considered AMD the poor man's Intel processor, or the thing people get when they think more cores = better, but in the past 5 or so years it truly has been better.

I've always disliked commercial actors who later turn on the company they advertised (another example being the "can you hear me now?" guy). Absent a truly compelling reason (other than just getting paid by a competitor), this practice seems like a low blow. Perhaps Long needed this particular paycheck to feed his family, but I can't help but think he could have gotten other work instead.
You think he advertised for Apple back then because he actually prefers the Mac and not because he was paid?

The real problem with this new ad is that they advertise for the Mac too. AND they hardly even advertise for Intel.

In fact, iPads are looking more and more like Surface tablets. Keyboards with trackpad and stand, stylus (sorry, "pencil"), cursor and mouse support in ipadOS. Microsoft was just coming from the other direction.

The great thing about the PC ecosystem is that you have a choice. You can get a traditional laptop, an convertible, a laptop with detachable screen, or a tablet with attachable keyboard. And the pen support in Windows 10 has become very good (I use it often for freehand drawing during remote meetings on my company laptop).

I totally agree... he even starts out with "I'm a..." and you KNOW what everyone is thinking he'd say! The guy is a traitor to the cause! I know he's just an actor, but now the "PC" character (name escapes me at the moment) is more true to Apple than Justin Long... and the attacks are ridiculous! It's like, let's not attack the M1 Mac having a worse processor... let's attack it for not being a Bi-usable pc/tablet "thing"... it's like Intel can't fight head on, so it fights sideways... how cowardly...

I see design and dongle critiques here rather than chip envy (Though they mention the Evo, but not why it’s better.)

If I were Intel, I’d be hard at work on an M1-Ryzen competitor before I came up with ads like this. 🧐 As for Justin, go where the dough is.

Wow, clever commercial. Rumor is that Apple will soon come out with a Macbook that will work with an Apple Pencil. They've been reluctant to do so because of a fear that such a product would hurt iPad sales, but really they have no choice anymore given the huge popularity of 2 in 1 Windows machines.

For an Intel ad they don't even talk about the processor. But I think that their target audience for the ad is not the professional that has to run Windows because their applications are not available on OS-X. A Windows virtual machine on the M1 processor running graphics-intensive applications like Solidworks, Altium, or Cadence products would not be a pretty sight.

The real problem with this new ad is that they advertise for the Mac too. AND they hardly even advertise for Intel.
It's not whether he liked the Mac more than a PC, for his role... it's that he was SO GOOD at the role, we all associated him as "I'm a Mac...". He gained facial fame with those ads. I never even knew who he was before then! Then, when I'd see he was in a movie (like some horror movies he's been in; "Drag Me to Hell" and "Jeepers Creepers"), I'd watch them, BECAUSE he was in them! I liked him, because he was so good at being a Mac! So, it seems like he's just being a turn-coat in doing this... but... was he just a double-agent all along? Looks like...

No, of course not, and nothing I said suggests otherwise.

I just knew someone here would find a way to throw blame on Apple when this repulsive ad is actually trashing Apple. Typical MR members. SMH. Newsflash! Perhaps Apple doesn’t give a flying fig about this ad or Justin along starring in it and is not acting as dramatic about it as some of you here. Apple stopped doing ads against their competition well over 10 years ago so they don’t need J-Long. In fact Apple is probably laughing at how pathetic and upset Intel is. Good for Apple!
A "repulsive" ad...dear me my friend, you certainly have things out of proportion; they are not attacking your religion or killing puppies; it's a light-hearted dig!

No one seem to be to worried when Apple did the "Apple v PC" ad at the M1 keynote [in case you had forgotton in your rage, only a few months ago, not 10 years ago]; they even used John Hodgman to play "pc guy."

I knew when this story broke, it would be comedy gold on here with the hysteria, and boy you haven't disappointed!

Douchey move to say the least on Justin's part but I assume people at home are laughing at those fugly and cheap intel PeeCees!!!

Intel must be really, really, really nervous. That reminds me of the Blackberry ads making fun of the iPhone. Intel should move to ARM, as Apple has done. The writing is on the wall.

Yes he’s an actor but actors know full well when you flip to a competitor and name the company you’ve previously worked for... that‘s a no go. Why would Apple ever use him again? It’s about adding business, not gaining one while losing another. That‘s not one builds a portfolio for future income In a filed like acting.
So in your world, when John Hodgeman was working for Apple on the ads as "PC Guy" [promoting Apple just as much as Justin Long was] because he had an "anti-Mac" role, he would be fine doing that for some other business; he wouldn't be a dirty flip-flopper??

priceless :D

Hey as long as the guy gets his paycheck. With all that's going on in the world its nice to see some humor.

Intel schmintel who cares? Do we even know for sure that Apple will stay the course or is this just a big experiment?

My M1 MBA works great.

LOL... a politician... taking a moral stand... LOLOLOLOLOL... for or against an issue.... LMFAO!
Politicians take moral stands on issues all the time. Whether they are consistent on their positions or flip-flop as the poster I was responding to said is an entirely different matter.

and is it not true for the last 2-3 years, all Apple have been doing with the iPad is to try and turn it into a 2-in-1

To everyone saying this is a desperation play and underhanded - this is EXACTLY what Apple did with the "I'm a Mac" commercials.
Who said it is underhanded?

And it is a desperation play. Just like when Apple did it.

Coke never had to do a “coke challenge” for a reason. The competitor with the winning hand doesn’t elevate its competition my talking about it.

also, there’s a reason Apple never made a touch screen Mac and they will never will to protect Steve Job’s legacy:

He wasn't wrong, but it's not like touch pads are ergonomically correct either. You have to brace your iPad or hold it up in front of your face at some point. Phones sort of worked (until the latest Max) because you could put it in your palm.

You don’t hurt Steve Jobs legacy by making a touch screen Mac. You hurt it by producing photos of him doing bad things.

Such a silly point.
Not to mention Apple couldn't care less about "legacies". If it makes them money, they will do it, like any corporation.
