Well as far as gaming performance is concerned it's more the dedicated graphics cards rather than the Intel processor and its weedy inbuilt graphics capability that puts the Windows PC in front from a raw horsepower perspective, in addition to the lack of AAA games on Mac compared to PC (and the atrocious freemium nightmare the IOS app store has devolved into over the years).

I don't think Intel are trying to win any converts with these adverts, more that they're sowing just enough doubt that existing Intel users don't see enough of a benefit gain to completely jump platform.
PC gamers have or are moving to AMD. It is game over for Intel in that market. I also know a few gamers who have recently ditched their gaming PC's in favor of a Xbox Series X or PS5.

Their reasoning was that PC gaming is full of cheating big time with AAA multi-player games, they only use their PC for gaming while computing on Mac, and that the new consoles are finally powerful enough that it is good enough/extra PC gaming power does not matter.

Apple has such a tiny marketshare that this makes little sense. Intel should be going after AMD with their advertisements, as AMD stands a much greater chance of actually taking huge chunks of Intel's marketshare.

That said, the criticisms are (mostly) accurate. Apple needs to up their game in any number of areas; touchscreens, convertible laptops, number of external displays supported. It's really frustrating sometimes being in the Apple ecosystem; seeing them do some amazing things, and then simultaneously seeing them make so many mistakes.

Let's hope that this kind of thing a) means that Intel is getting off their butts and really working to make better CPUs, thus pushing Apple and AMD to do the same (better for everyone) and b) gets Apple to take notice that they can't just sit back design 'just laptops' and expect people to stay happy forever.

The bit about gaming is pretty funny in one regard; anyone who really games on Windows knows you better have a dedicated gaming rig that isn't used for anything else (basically, a machine you turn into a Windows gaming console). Windows is still way too fragile to risk your gaming rig getting screwed up under normal use as a general all-purpose computer. So if you are really serious about gaming on Windows, you almost certainly have a second computer, which can be whatever OS you choose.

Can anyone really say this advertisement is wrong?

Because it's not. It's 100% accurate. Regardless of the actor.

Anyone that's using Mac knows this is accurate.

You don't need 56 accessories to use a 2 in 1 laptop.

Fact.

I think you have a point, to some extent.

But, when I see that intel hybrid device being folded back I just think how ungainly it seems and think the overall user experience must suffer. (It can't be as nice as using a tablet that's optimised for use as a handheld device, or a notebook computer that is solidly constructed and tooled to perform.)

Versus choosing the right tool for the job with the Mac and the iPad. There's a lot to be said for that approach.

Actors and actresses cannot be too fusy with regards to who they work with because it's paid work for them. If Intel are paying him good money to do the advert then all good for him.

Exactly. Did anybody complain when a lovely, friendly man, who was synonymous with road safety in the UK. Became one of the most evil warriors in the universe. David Prowse, may he rest in peace.

Ok, I don’t think that’s anything wrong with the ad, but hiring the “I’m a Mac” guy and the introduction is pretty cringey. Really Intel? You must be so desperate.

Justin is an actor. This was an acting gig. Good on him for cashing an easy check. Although times most be tough for him to be taking a gig like this. The irony is I'd bet money that he's an Apple user. Regardless of his prior ads for Huawei.

Eh I mean the gaming one is accurate. lol But really they shouldn't be afraid of Intel, everyone is looking at AMD now on the PC side.

Good for Justin! I hope he made Intel pay through the nose.

People are persuadable... I hope Intel puts as much fight and creativity into their chips, because I want them to keep Apple In check.

In the meantime, I hope this lights a fire to get that Macbook-sized; bezel-less; two-pound; iPad-colored; 16-core; 32-core-GPU; 32-gig memory; 20-hour-battery-lasting; Geekbench-score doubling; laptop out the door.
It’s funny how many people say things like ”we need the competition to keep Apple moving forward”, but then don’t realize that Apple moved ahead because the competition (Intel in this case) was so bad that they couldn’t give Apple what they wanted. That’s not keeping Apple in check, that’s giving Apple a reason (multiple reasons really) to do their own thing. Any good company isn’t spending their development time comparing their products to the competition, because they’re working on producing things to hit specific metrics.

Big thumbs down to MR for this headline and even bigger thumbs down to everyone that is dissing Justin. The guy is an actor who gets paid for work like this, trying to make him a scapegoat in this situation is absolutely immoral and entirely hypocritical.

I almost hate to say it but I reckon in the years to come they will have to go back on Steve and fold on a touchscreen Mac
I absolutely hope not. This is what ruined Windows 8 and still to some degree Windows 10. I have SO MUCH SPACE on a 4K display that is not utilized due to them needing to cater to touch centric interface. It’s just a waste.

Except for the multiple display issue (which you can do multiple displays if you use a dongle) these differences existed when Apple was using Intel processors too. So it isn't like anything Intel does that makes those other features possible.

Intel has called on the services of former "I'm a Mac" actor Justin Long in a series of new ads in which Apple's latest custom-made M1 processors are cast as inferior to newer laptops powered by Intel processors.

Well known for his role in Apple's popular "Get a Mac" TV ad campaign from the 2000s, Long stars in a series of ads called "Justin Gets Real" on Intel's YouTube channel, beginning each video by introducing himself as "... a Justin – just a real person doing a real comparison between Mac and PC."

In one ad, Long promotes the flexibility of Windows laptops, specifically the Lenovo Yoga 9i versus a MacBook Pro. In another video, Long meets a PC user gaming on the MSI Gaming Stealth 15M laptop, powered by a Intel Core i7. Long then asks for a Mac, before swiftly agreeing with the PC user that "no one games on a Mac."

Other ads include Long throwing shade on Intel's behalf towards Apple's lack of touchscreen Macs, the inability to plug more than one external display into M1 Macs, and the variety of different options available for laptops powered by Intel.

Intel undertook a similar marketing campaign in February with a series of tweets highlighting the "shortcomings" of Apple's M1 powered-Macs compared to Intel-powered computers. In November, Apple released its first Apple Silicon and is expected to fully transition its entire lineup away from Intel over the next couple of years.

This isn't the first time Long has featured in ad campaigns for Apple rivals. In 2017, the actor starred in a series of Huawei commercials promoting the company's Mate 9 smartphone.

It’s hilarious that they promote features that have nothing to do with the processor. Like a car engine maker promoting the soft material of the seats.

Not really.

Customers usually buy systems, not CPUs. And in most cases, if you don't buy a Mac laptop there will be an (ugly) "Intel inside" logo on what you buy.

Intel is not really wrong either - few buy Mac for gaming, and it's not like Apple cares much about that segment. And if you get suckered into wanting a touchscreen for a laptop, no Mac will provide that fingerprintcovered monstrosity of a display.

Good for Justin. Like all actors he is just saying what he is paid to say.

Never understood why people take actors seriously. They are paid to lie, or at least to make one think something other than the truth.

One has to wonder why people are so shallow thinking that it being him versus a new face would make a difference. But it does or Intel would not have paid more for him. Thats on the shallow thinkers.
