Re: QuickReply. I didn't activate it back when because it just seemed inelegant. If you let people quick reply without picking a post, then you loose all threading logic in the thread. Posts are not replied to specifically. If you activate individual posts, it makes you click on the "quick reply" button on the post before you can type into the Quick Reply box. Not sure if people wouldn't just get confused.

I like how we don't have quick reply. That extra few seconds weeds out some really stupid posts that would result from not thinking and laziness.

I totally agree on that one - definitely cuts down on the useless posts.

Another new feature!

If you click on the numbers in the Replies column, a new pop-up shows who has posted listed by number of posts. Cool. :)

I also noticed clicking on the smilie icons no longer adds a spacebar buffer.

On the forum I help moderate, you have to click the icon next to a post to activate it - this doesn't seem too much bother and people have got used to it - it's no differnt to clicking the "Post Reply" button at the end of the thread :D (as in you've still got to click a button to reply)

Surely having the quick reply without having to click a button would just be the same as hitting the 'Post Reply' button?

If we had the 'Click to activate quick reply' feature, that would still take precious seconds, weeding out some of the stupid posts.

This is a forum, people will still make stupid posts if they have to go through 25 different screens to post :)

One reason why I like the new quick reply feature so much is that it doesn't reload the page after you post - surely that would cut down on some server load (and also, the newreply.php page wouldn't be loading as well)?

Inline-edit:

There's still the good old-fashioned

button for those who don't like the quick reply box :D

It might not be, but I for one didn't know about that feature until I read this thread.

I suppose I'm just going to have to get into the habit of clicking more stuff to see what happens... :)

Yes, me as well - it's all new to me! ;)

Another new feature for contributors (paid subscribers), is that the top banner ad on the forums is removed. The banner ads on the main site were already disabled for contributors.

arn, do you have stats on how many times these navigation tools are used? Who here uses these?

Thanks for keeping things fresh. The update seems great now that I was told to empty my cache (thanks Shard ;) ) I didn't catch this thread and was wondering why nothing was working. Glad I PMed over thread-started, considering everyone that already knew.

Also lovingly known as the "We know exactly where you are, so don't bother hiding" button.

Scary thing is, while that will give a location within 150 miles for most people, looking up the latitude/longitude associated with my IP gives a location roughly 2000 feet from where I'm sitting right now.

*Runs and hides while mods attempt assassination*

(And no, if you don't know how to get my latitude and longitude from my IP I'm not going to tell you...)

The edit feature is awesome, inline like that makes keeping your thought process that much easier. Great additions to an already awesome setup. Thanks again, discovering new things all the time now that I know there have been changes made ;)

I haven't been here much lately, and this is my first post today (if you can believe that, given my previous posting history)...so I haven't noticed the changes yet.

Hmmm... I think I like the older vbulletin logo (yellow and black) better than this new one. Maybe you could put the macrumor logo there instead?

mine's not that close but still the same side of town  that's pretty scary seeing how easy it is to find people's ip's...

Is it me or do the avatars seem a lot crisper and brighter now?

this editing thing is cool too.:p

Ok Im not sure if anyone else is having this problem but I can't upload an animated avatar.
