Yeah I know, that's why for me Safari had the edge. But now spell check is available within Windows IE it has the edge because of how it handles the formating tags.

From what I've heard, IE is a horrible browser - the majority of the diehard PC users I know even say that they don't use it anymore and use FireFox instead. But whatever floats your boat! :D

I'm just glad I don't have the problem of having to use Windows at all, regardless of which browser I might choose...

I have to use MS Windows and IE at work, not my choice. However there's not a lot wrong with IE for standard browsing and I've had to resort to using it over Safari for some websites that just won't accept Safari, Disneyland Paris' website wouldn't let me book through Safari or Firefox or IE for Mac only Windows IE, same for a couple of airline sites I've tried to use.

Ah, I see - thanks for the insight. Safari has always worked for me, but I could see that being a problem if I ever came across a site that wasn't Safari-friendly.

The Safari Debug menu is your friend. Learn how to use it - it has gotten me past sites that refused to work any other way with Safari.

It's true. I've used it when I couldn't connect to a site on the G5's at my school, the debug helped to fix the problem.

What type of coding knowledge must one possess to make the debug menu effective? I have seen that menu prompting me for debug frequently on the pc, never yet on the Mac *knock knock* :p

I hadn't noticed the new edit feature until this morning!

Very nice!
I think I might have to start editing more posts!
Time to go explore more new features...
great upgrade!

Edit: to play a bit more

None, just invoke the menu in terminal and it'll appear next time Safari is opened. Then you can just choose which browser you want Safari to be seen as by the internet from a drop down menu.

Do a search in these forums for Safari Debug to find the exact text to enter in terminal.

For someone like myself using OS 9.1 and IE 5.1, the ability to edit a post seems to be unavailable. I have emptied Explorer's cache, restarted twice and rebuilt the desktop. Is there anything else to try until my new laptop makes an appearance on my desk? Thanks.

not just that... but everything's completely shafted for me. :(

Everything's working just fine now. :D

Now if we could just sort MR's brand identity and aesthetic out, we'd be sorted. :)

Awesome, thanks for that. I have never come across a site that was anti-Safari, but if it does I can now be prepared. :)

That'll be because IE5.1.x on OS9 is generally incompatible with the Internet, as I found out many a time.

You may want to try Mozilla 1.3.1 - it's older and slightly slower, but it does the job so much better than IE.

Note, as I am now using OSX, I haven't been able to test whether or not the new forum works on Mozilla 1.3.1. The popup menus on the old version worked on Mozilla, and they didn't on IE, so I assume the rest of the forum will work.

Internet Explorer Mac on OS 9 meets The Internet:

Internet: Hey there, welcome to the world wide web!
IE: OMG ZE INTARWEBZ!!!!!!!!!!!11111 *Error* *Error* *Mouse vanishes*

WHOA!!! A new feature?

I just noticed this-- I swear that didn't used to be there. That's pretty nifty! :D

Thanks for the reply and recommendation. I'll breathe much easier once I have the current OS.

I have never seen that before but based on the message it displays, I can't say I ever would have. It seems like a somewhat specialized message. Is mousing over the post considered reading it? or loading the page in general is reading it? I wonder if you would get that message only if you had not seen pages 3 and 4 created, but had been back since to pages 5 and 6. Something like that....otherwise I don't see the application for it. Anyone?

One of the great new features of vB3.5 is that on most forums posts aren't marked as read until you've actually read them. That means if you log out/time out, any unread posts from your last session will still show up unread until you either read them or click the "Mark forums read" button on the homepage.

Although it seems here that said feature is only applied to search pages.

You could always use Linux... wow thats sad to say I'm recommending that... Mozilla is great on OS 9 I've used it bunches of times on my old iBook G3

Ok I don't know if this is from what happened last night but every time I get into the site the auto password feature isn't working and I have to reenter my user name and password.

This only happened for me once, but did occur. Not sure what causes this, and why it would be happening every time for you.

I am having the exact same issue...

I heard there some issues last night, but sadly I was working from home and had no times to visit so I never experienced any of it....what exactly happened?

Regardless, I just checked MR out now for the first time today and the auto-password stayed in and worked fine. Perhaps it only caused a clearing when you visited MR and those who stayed away never got "infected" :p
