That´s ok of course, but obviously you or other iPad owners don´t enjoy/use sites like mentioned in this thread, because you simply can´t.

Sorry, but you're wrong. Pure & simple.

Personally, I am a hardcore facebook user. I spend a significant amount of time on Facebook every single day.

And yes. It works just as good as when I go to the site on my macbook. Mind you, I am not using Safari. I use the Atomic web browser instead. And no, I do not use Facebook chat. Never have, never will. IM+ covers my IM needs to the fullest.

Dare I call you a troll? I dare. Simple really, your opinion is perfectly fine, but you are not entitled to dictate how I or others use the internet. That is just wrong, and is simply trolling. And yes, I fell for it :)

I do not understand why people who have an axe to grind about the iPad or iPhone don't go to the Apple site and post there. What does anyone who decides to complain expect anyone here to do? MR is truly the dumping ground for those who just have to find somewhere to complain.

Agreed! You never find mac fans on Mac rumors, only troll threads like this one. The OP saying that facebook and YouTube doesn't work on the iPad proves he's never used one and nullifies everything he wrote.

+1

FB and YouTube (the web page) work great on the iPad. What most none iPad users don't realize is most sites (the ones I got to anyways) dual encode video files in Flash and HTML5. I can go to a site on my MBP and it is Flash but the same video plays just fine on the iPad.

There are Apps for most of those sites for the iPad
Doesnt that negate the topic of Apple lying as to the iPad being a "Full Internet Device"? The fact that we need apps to do things that most web browsers will do without the need of apps, is just stupid...we are all too "App Happy".

Then quit going to them. Let them know you will not be visiting their sites anymore because they use flash. Whether or not you purchase an iPad or not is irrelevant. Continued use of those sites encourage the use of third party plugins.

It sounds like you blame Apple for a websites use of a third party plugin.

Edit: A recent Google search says that you will soon be able to say "There's an app for that".

apart from they are the major TV catch up sites for their respective catchment of channels, and the main reason they use flash because of it's security to the licence holders that their content cannot be downloaded from the sites (like on iplayer most of the 'top' tv shows (esp american shows) are not available on the iphone iplayer because there is a program that you can use to download the (unencrypted) video file to your computer which you could share illegally), and they cannot fully move to html5 or other formats untill they have full support from everything the average consumer (ie browsers) can use and after it is fully tested.

so its not really ITVs, channel 4 or FIVES fault it is more the actuall people who own the content (esp the american shows) scared that people will easily be able to 'rip' the shows to local storage.

needless to say if you miss something on TV you go to one of those sites to catch up (much like you americans do by going to hulu?) and I also understand that america has exactly the same issues with some of your major channels catch up sites. but the demand five app does sould like a good step

but interestingly you are able to watch all the freeview channels live on your idevice on tvcatchup.com just not use the major catchup sites to watch missed TV shows later, but like a couple of other people have said as open format use increases they will move accross to the new formats becaue it will likely be cheeper or just be open to more consumers as standard which equals more ad revenue, but I certainly will not be boycotting them because, unlike what some will say, there are some good things on TV that I inevitably am not able to watch live so I will use those sites to catch up.

OP you have a nerve to tell that guy he needs to read... You replied to my post and completely turned it into something I never even stated or even instigated.

You mad just because the current way refreshpageeverysecondbook I mean *Facebook is laid out which is due to Facebook itself not the iPad... And now because of this you have no convenient way to update your status to tell people your currently lying in the couch eating a snickers while watching true blood or some bollocks.

Yeah I went there

Get over it not apples problem not our problem. It's down to Facebook start a rebellion on there or something... Make a group or whatever it is you teeny boppers do these days.

Funniest thing about the blind loyalists (and I'm a huge iPad lover but I'm smart enough to see it's limitations) is the continued sweeping under the rug of flash. Just tonight I ran across several Apple/Mac blog sites with a lot of their front page articles having flash video, yeah scrolling down and seeing all those empty flash boxes would have been amusing if it wasn't so god awful sad.

It's funny to see the extremes here, either the iPad is absolutely perfect and if you say differently you are a troll, or the iPad is complete junk and if you say different you are a fanboy. Obviously (you would think) the truth is somewhere dead in the middle. This whole Internet usability debacle, and in part the flash debacle, shouldn't have ever been an issue and there is a breakdown in the famous user interface first Apple is so famous for. It doesn't mean the iPad isn't a great device, it is, it just means there are improvements needed.

Out of curiosity, which sites are you referring to? I just visited all that I could think of and/or google on my iPad and all that had videos played perfectly right there in the safari window.

Interestingly enough I was typing them all out and my iPad's browser crashed, lol there you go. I'll list out which sites I visited tonight and gave me varying degrees of trouble with flash, maybe it was only an article or 2' maybe it was a bunch of them depending on the page. Definitely add the lack of RAM as another detriment to the unturned experience though.

lol what a crock.

Ever think others simply have better things to do with their time? Or is the "internet" just one big toy for you to play with?

I don't have an iPad, but I have Click2Flash installed on my Mac. Quite frankly, it's pretty rare that I come across a site that I need to click to activate any Flash content. 95% of the time, there's an H.264 version of any video I want to load. Yes, even the porn. ;)

The only notable exception I've come across is the anime fansub sites I visit sometimes.

Here's some sites which gave me varying degrees of trouble, mostly with flash, but a couple of out of memory crashes too.

Just a small list of what I've been surfing in the past hour. Kind of funny I see today flash announced support for WM7 and symbian in addition to android. Is there really something apple sees that every single other company doesn't ?

The lack of Flash is why I got the new MB Air today. So tired of needing to use a real computer while using my iPad just to see videos.

Sorry, but I don't agree with your view on this.

The iPad comes 1st and web sites use 3rd party code that the established iPad cannot play, then I blame the website. (I think we all would as that's common sense)

The web site comes 1st and then a device is made that cannot view the well established web site. Well, common sense must say the fault now is the display device.

Otherwise it's like making a car that does not like some roads which people use every day and blaming the roads, and not the new car for it's inability to drive along them.

The website comes first, but these times, they're a changing.

C64 came way before the iPad, but you don't hear me bitchin that Angry Birds doesn't work on the C64.

Does your almighty flash work in Windows 3.1 ??? I dont care because I abandoned 3.1 many years ago, cause times are changing.

Remember Mosaic ? Does flash support it? Mosaic was around before flash. If I complained about not being able to cruise the web using Mosiac, I would get a rash of replies telling me to update my browser. Tell the web masters to update there websites.

Pave your roads.

Also extremely happy now that I don't have to deal with the iPad's keyboard. Typing on glass is just awful to me. I also will never miss how the browser tabs refresh if I have more than one open at a time. I guess I was hoping a magical device would amount to being more than a big iPod Touch. It didnt. Thankfully Apple has me covered with the new Air.

And are people really still using that stupid argument that not having Flash is actually a good thing? I love the Internet. And I desire to have access to as much of it as possible. Cant do that with my iPad.

The point of OP's thread was that in his opinion a browser w/o Flash does not constitute a "full"internet browser. This continued with accusations of false advertising and conspiracy clams about Apples business practice.
Needless to say, many people found such claims offensive and baseless. What they have been trying to explain is that Flash is not part of the internet standards, so a lack of a Flash player does not effect a browsers status of offering "full"internet.
Whether or not MS and Google embrace a plug-in, does not change its status as an internet standard. Until W3C embraces Flash, mobile Safari offers "full"internet.

You may not like it, but what are asking for is beyond the definition of a "full" internet browser.

BTW - I don't mind Flash, but you need to except what Flash is; a proprietary browser plug-in.

Macrumors ?? Oh yeah, I forgot, a couple of third party ads...

CNN ? You shouldn't be watching that liberial garbage anyway. Foxnews works, all the videos play, ect...

Crunchgear and life hacker, you lose a few videos here and there. They will fix it.

I enjoy not having to take out the laptop. I still don't understand what the browser refresh deal is. Please explain.

Go to any MySpace site. Can you play the songs in the player? Can you play the videos straight from the site? No you can´t.

Go to any Youtube channel site (not just some video). Can you play the videos straight from the channel site? Can you browse through all channel´s the videos nicely? Can you look at the comments same time you´re playing the video? No.

Same things and many other examples in Facebook and so on...

It´s a disgrace of a full internet experience. (Again for iPhone it´s fine, but not for a tablet device, which is almost the size of a laptop).

These are just few examples from many other annoyances.

Actually youtube is better on the ipad then it is on my pc.
Who cares about going to the persons channel?

I always use a channel on you tube to watch foreign movies. This guys has over 5000 uploads on his channel and IT IS EXTREMELY LAGGY. Scrolling down the movies it's a pain in the ass and if i do it wile playing the movie (minimized) it will freeze it.
This is the pc i use for web browsing and it's perfectly fine, It can play 1080 HD videos from youtube it has 6 gb of ram, ect...
And on this guy channels it lags.
I use my ipad and it's perfect. I just click on "more from" and i can quickly scroll down and pick what ever I want to watch lag free and they are all in perfect order from part 1 to part 10 etc...
Myspace and facebook I could care less. If your internet experience is limited to youtube , myspace and facebook you should not come here and insult other people's intelligence.

PS

and yes you can look at the comments wile you playing the video even better then on the pc lol
On the pc you have to scroll down moving the video up and if you click on all comments it will remove the video. On the ipad the comments are on the right and you can scroll them down wile watching the video.
Then again how do you manage to watch a video and simultaneously read the comments?
You are right I can't play the songs on myspace player. My life is over.

you want the full internet experience...

To the OP, and other posters, or should I say posers. A better word might be trolls:
First of all, Let me say, I use facebook all the time, and really have no complaints about it. I wouldn't use myspace if you paid me. and everything I want to get from utube is available. As far as flash goes. I have had it many times crash my browser in both windows and on a mac. so you can tell me how it works fine on your browsers, but I have had bad experiences with it, and thus deactivated it from both my mac and windows PC's at home and at my work. Have I ever missed flash? only when I go to car company websights to build my dream car of the day.
So the answer to the question is the Internet experience full on the ipad. for me the answer is yes. Now I realize the ipad is not for everyone. I realize twelve year olds need the constant attention that only a flash game can give. As such I hope all you posers, er, I mean posters enjoy your farmville's and mafia wars. I don't play that crap.
Now I don't have a problem with a poster starting a thread and complaining or in this case whining, about the ipad experience, if that poster, er, poser, is willing to listen and be reasonable. But at this point the OP has been neither.

Now I don't care if you like the ipad, or don't. I don't care if you own one or don't. But do not dare tell me about my experience on the ipad. I use mine every day, and I have been extremely pleased with it.
Could it be improved? Yes, That is what future generations are for.

I understand some people don't like the on screen keyboard, it seems to work fine for me, but again, I can understand how some people might need a more tactile response from a keyboard then what is available from the ipad screen, that is what the bluetooth keyboard is for. Apple has provided most of the tools, and when you use them correctly "it just works"

I have no problem with someone who has an opinion different from my own, I do have a problem when someone, needs to bring up the same subject again and again like the original poser, er, poster. You don't like the ipad. no problem. But don't expect to come on this site and not have someone tell you where to stick it, when you have proven on so many occasions that you are not here to improve anything but your ego. If you were here asking for information on how to use the ipad better that would be one thing. but complaining for the sake of complaining... Go tell it to your mother, maybe she will care, because, no one here does.

The case with the apps for most of those sites is that they are catered just for the iPad. Sure you can browse to the main site in Safari if you wish but having a site that is created especially for the device and packaged in an app is really convenient.

I have included a few pics to help highlight this. As you can see the BBC news app looks far better than the standard webpage which i have included too. The Telegraph one looks fantastic and is very easy to use and navigate. The Sky sports one too is great and video can be played directly by clicking on it. Very slick navigation.

Yep, a good example of very intelligent limited mobile internet iPad user. Thanks for the input.

"More from"... I hate it! Crappy experience. If you want to see an older video, takes forever to click and click and click that "more from". Very annoying. And FYI I use the YouTube personal channels mostly. I have several bookmarked and I follow them. Very annoying to do that with mobile internet.

Then again how do you manage to watch a video and simultaneously read the comments?

I don´t know if you have noticed, but some of the videos aren´t "videos", just a song there with a picture or a radio show or something. Yes I´ll check music from YouTube all the time and like reading the comments while listening. I also listen to radio shows with YouTube. But of course your reply must be something like "I don´t, so I couldn´t care less" and maybe so, but that´s why the limited internet experience works for you, but for many others like me, it´s far away from the full and working experience.

I wouldn't use myspace if you paid me.

Oh no, another iPad user.

if that poster, er, poser, is willing to listen and be reasonable

"Poser", "reasonable"... hmm somehow those two words don´t fit into the same sentence, or were you talking about yourself?

I have no problem with someone who has an opinion different from my own, I do have a problem when someone, needs to bring up the same subject again and again like the original poser, er, poster.

You said that already multiple times, getting kinda old huh? Wasn´t even funny in the first time. How old (young) were you again?

but complaining for the sake of complaining... Go tell it to your mother, maybe she will care, because, no one here does.

No I´m criticising. You on the other hand are complaining and whining about criticism.

It´s really funny how some iPad users are so easily offended by valid criticism. It´s not like I´m offending your mothers or something.

I think the OP does have a point (one that's been done to death over the months), even if he does try and disguise it by acting like a troll and winding people up. It is slightly annoying that the iPad doesn't support flash (for example, I wanted to watch Match of the Day on my iPad whilst my wife was watching something else on TV on Saturday, but the BBC's live transmissions are flash only so I couldn't).

Having said that, I still think the iPad is the best gadget I've ever had and I use it for 90% of my internet browsing because (with supported sites) I find it the best browsing experience

On top of that, the iPad is far more than just an internet browser: I can do remote support for my customers from pretty much anywhere, I use it for taking notes in meetings (less intrusive than having a laptop screen in front of your face), and there are loads of other great apps that make my working day more enjoyable

I also coach a junior soccer team, and take my iPad to show them videos of training moves and use it for a tactics board (it's amazing how much more attention you get from kids when they're looking at an iPad than a blackboard :) )

For me, the iPad isn't perfect but it's pretty close and is easily the best tablet available. If you need to use a lot of flash sites then it's obviously not going to be a good fit and you should get a different device: That's what choice is about.
