Ahh, that's the protector MKBHD infamously removed on an early model right, without realising it was meant to stay on?

It differs slightly from a slab phone screen protector in that it has to be on there right? Would anyone risk removing it & just have the glass exposed permanently?

Can it be purchased from anywhere? I know Samsung replace it once for free, but if it were damaged a 2nd time, are there options out there or is it best to have the OEM one from Samsung?

MKBHD that was like over 7 years back on pre-production models, that got all the press. It was the actual screen he peeled in error as there was no protector, since then starting with the Fold 1, they changed the design

Yes some do remove the screen protector, but its not advised and may void your warranty. However my work phone a flip 5 and the Mrs back up phone a flip 4 both have their screen protectors removed. As the original is only good for 18-24 months YMMV.

I understand the protectors are only available from Samsung and should be fitted by them or authorized dealers, they are not DIY.

Yea, that part gets to me too. But in my experience with multiple Fold over the years, it was never an issue. I used the Fold plenty times in dusty construction sites, dirt trails, and etc, with dirty hands/fingers. Only place I refuse to use a Fold is around sand.

I tried your suggestion after reading your message, and it worked! Thanks a lot! I now have 8 apps on my dock and 5 rows of icons. I found the setting to enlarge home screen icons, but is there a way to make just the dock icons larger? Couldn't find an option for that 🙁.

For some reason the big folder background isn't as transparent and blurry on my inner screen when compared to my outer screen or is this due to the wallpaper but I feel like you should see a little bit more of the blue sky and palm tree shining through?

Use the folder icon settings and make sure opacity is the same and using Goodlock set the folder colour to the same as the folder icon

If you use the DYI option in Home Up, the you can independently change the size of any icon. I use this setup because I prefer to create my own dock and place icons anywhere I want. Here's my cover screen. This wouldn't be possible without the DYI option.

Using one of my favorite icon packs too! Like the clean setup in the status bar... I remove the clock as well.

Just got my trade-in accepted... so I was able to cancel my subscription for Care+ (monthly payment due today). But found out Samsung changed their policy... previously they gave us 60 days to sign up after purchasing now it's a year! Regardless, plan on subscribing next month.

I just dropped off my Fold 7 today for the trade-in. I'm really liking the Fold 8 , I don't think I'll be using the inside screen as much I did with the previous Folds I had.

Yes UK has good consumer protection but that's more on OEM defects etc opposed to accidental damage

They usually make good cases and I bet it won't be as thick as it looks in the photos. I totally understand wanting to have full coverage.

Well the F8 is a little marvel and certainly enjoyable to use. It definitely encourages more outer screen use.

One little personal niggle I found after so many years using the F8U book style format is I am more use to the portrait orientation on the inner screen. It currently works better for scaling on some apps. However what no reviewer seemed to note is if your using an app that needs biometrics like a bank app the fingerprint sensor is in an awkward position. Or even if you get distracted and the screen times out. I got around this by using my thumb print on the bottom edge.

I can see some users having issues with app icon layouts on the outer screen especially for those that do not organise with folders, I’m a minimalist, so no issues🙂

I totally agree with the fingerprint placement complaint, it really is awkward to use it when I have the phone unfolded and turned on its side. Maybe for the Galaxy Fold 10 we'll have face unlock with sensors under the screen... Here's hoping! 🕊️

What I do with my TriFold (and all previous Folds) is to register another fingerprint in the "awkward position" using my thumb. This way, if the foldable is in portrait mode I can still use my index finger if the sensor is on top, or use my thumb when the sensor is at the bottom. No awkward contortions.

If I understood correctly, you got rid of the dock (what Samsung calls favorites) and just placed an extra row of icons on the lower part of the screen?

Got a Fold8 Ultra for my work line. Used Fold3 once back then, so I'm used to the idea of using foldable. Regardless, it's really amazing to see so much improvement over. Really like its form factor & how thin this is. Pretty impressive.

Performance in general is also top notch.

I can't give up Apple's eco system as my Mac, iPad and my personal iPhone is too integrated with each other. So I will keep using an iPhone. I was thinking about upgrading my 16 pro to 18 Pro max or something, but with a new fold8 ultra, I may end up passing iphone 18 all together and upgrade when 19 comes out. Even then, Pro vs Pro Max is going to be challenging..
