Interesting, I find myself using the internal screen way more often and always turning the phone on its side as to have the 4:3 ratio, the only time I use the inner screen in landscape mode is for watching YouTube videos.

I totally agree with the fingerprint placement complaint, it really is awkward to use it when I have the phone unfolded and turned on its side. Maybe for the Galaxy Fold 10 we'll have face unlock with sensors under the screen... Here's hoping! 🕊️
I haven't checked but you could use face unlock but set it to safe locations like home if your worried about it

Else add your thumb print like NeonNights and I do for inner portrait

Torras ring and stand for some occasions plus no camera wobble...

Registering another finger which is close to that part of the phone is a great idea, thank you!
Can you also register the same finger multiple times from different angles? I did that with my front door lock & it made it much more successful when it came to unlocking. For eg. I named my Right Thumb 1, Right Thumb 2, Right Thumb 3 etc. & I can see in the unlock history which of these Thumbs were successful…. Much higher success rate after doing this.

You can register the same finger multiple times but the new process now includes rotation so should be unnecessary 🙂

@Bkdodger Did you get a chance to try and see if you could just have the screen layout and zoom be reduced but only on the cover screen?
Oh let me test that out today and come back, I completely forgot about it .

So I got it to work with a routine but the only small bug I see so far is if the phone is closed or open and you continue on the other screen it will keep the current font but once you hit power button it triggers the new size, I'm unable to do the screen zoom as an option in the routine

I always enjoy Shane Craig's take on things.
Interesting. Title has changed, had watched some of the video earlier... but it was something like "Fold 8 Proves Specs don't matter." Which I prefer the previous title over this one... claiming it to be mediocre seems like a dig (maybe it's for the algorithm lol).

Nevertheless, the points he made seems positive... hopefully he gets the opportunity to compare the upcoming Apple foldable. Granted, he's not a fan of iOS... but the hardware should be intriguing enough to at least give his thoughts.

Only thing mediocre about the ZF8 as far as specs go is the camera array. I know Shane is pretty big on cameras. Honestly as much as I love the Trifold the size of the ZF8 keeps pulling at me. I can do without the “upgraded” cameras of the Trifold anyways. It’s not fantastic as a picture taking device. Usually use my 17PM or S26U when wanting to take quality pics.

The ZF8 is a really really awesome device, no doubt about it... cover and inner display is just superb. Probably, the best experience I've had since joining the Fold world back with the 2nd generation.

But you are on track to get the upcoming Apple's foldable (which is nearly the same as the ZF8)... I'd suggest waiting for that and staying with the TriFold, since that's the pinnacle when it comes to the foldable experience.

He has mentioned getting an iPhone in the past so he can be familiar with the software so he can be fair with the iPhone fold.
Camera and battery are the things he considered mediocre.
Unless Apple does something amazing with their foldable I think I'll be jumping back on the fold train with the ZF9.

I may be wrong, but he mentioned... it was contingent upon how much he can make up for it on the back-end.

Because he's very transparent on his thought process... and if he's able to get the necessary funds to pay for it through affiliate links then it's a go. But if it doesn't work financially for him... he's not going to do it.

I don't know, still think it's poor word choice... title can be misconstrued as the entire device is mediocre only until you click on the video you get a detailed explanation to what he meant. That's why I feel like it's more for the algorithm...

True. It is a bit click baity. He could have worded it differently.

I thought it was a bit misleading as it was not until the end did he note it was a siloed view against the 4 or so typical book style foldables only.

Something i have noticed after seven years on my Samsung book folds is I was not tempted to keep rotating the device like the Fold 8 and this constant urge to rotate depending on app etc aggravates the odd position of the fingerprint scanner

Now maybe rotation will become 2nd nature and muscle memory will kick in on the scanner, but for now it's like a compelling twitch 🙂

If you are rotating often... perhaps you should have went with the Fold 8 Ultra, no? Because if you are rotating often... you might actually prefer a squarish form factor than the rectangular shape on the inner display of the Fold 8.

Because I find myself keeping the inner screen in landscape always... only time I have to rotate it is cause of that Shop app, because Samsung didn't bother to include their apps in the "Landscape view for portrait apps" setting.

I can't win LOL

If I go with F8 Ultra format I'm a 95% inner screen user and most apps just work

However

If I use the F8 I am using the outer screen far more and enjoying it, but there is that nag to rotate to get the best experience, with inner or outer screen.

Additionally

I have never been a mag ring user but the F8 squat stance with the Lamicall stand/ring is fun

Yeah, it's a tough call lol.

Yeah, I wasn't really into the whole MagSafe ecosystem... still prefer to use wired-charging. But it all changed recently when I seen Aulumu G09 stand... and I just had to have it. I bought one of those Lamicall Magsafe Rings from Amazon and one of those skins from Skinwraps. Plan on setting up my phone like this... placing the skin over top the Magsafe Ring.

That Auluma stand appeals to the engineer in me but the Lamicall is much nicer in the hand IMO
