Yeah, it's a tough call lol.

Yeah, I wasn't really into the whole MagSafe ecosystem... still prefer to use wired-charging. But it all changed recently when I seen Aulumu G09 stand... and I just had to have it. I bought one of those Lamicall Magsafe Rings from Amazon and one of those skins from Skinwraps. Plan on setting up my phone like this... placing the skin over top the Magsafe Ring.

I'm surprised the skin wraps around the ring, yet still extends properly to the edges. Is the skin fitted for that particular ring?

Just used a skin and a ring…. User had to take some time to get the skin molded around the ring, supposedly they applied some heat to it. My skin comes Monday, will post how it all goes… picked the Steel Metal skin that way it can blend in with the Fold frame.

The title is kinda ******** tbh. Because the only spec that is objectively mediocre is the lack of a telephoto lens.

But as well all know, it's all about rage bait and/or extreme exaggeration for engagement these days.
The title is misleading but it's a good video. He's a big fan of the phone.
Cameras and battery are the "mediocre" aspects of the phone.

If anyone is still considering, Amazon US has the Z Fold 8 512 GB in stock and still has a $350 gift card and an extra $200 on your trade-in. I am tempted on trading in my Pixel 10 Pro. That would give me $915 in credit and I could get a "free" PS5 Pro. (At least that's how I tell my wife I got it.)

News out of Korea, the z fold 8 is a hit, just not enough to save Samsung mobile.

Samsung mobile is expected to post an operating loss for three consecutive quarters this year

Yeah, sounds like real trouble. Samsung Mobile losses are EASILY absorbed by Samsung Electronics. It's all accounting smoke and mirrors. 😉

"Samsung Electronics is the massive parent company that builds TVs, memory chips, home appliances, and all electronics. Samsung Mobile (officially the Mobile eXperience or DX division) is just one specific department inside that parent company that makes smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches.

Samsung Electronics reported a record-breaking second quarter (Q2) for 2026 ending June 30, 2026, posting an all-time high consolidated revenue of KRW 171.5 trillion and an operating profit of KRW 89.5 trillion ($62 billion USD), driven by surging AI memory chip demand. Under its active capital return strategy, market reports estimate strong potential for substantial shareholder distributions and special dividends tied to massive net cash reserves."

Indeed Samsung electronics is doing great
All of its subsidiaries are seeing record profit.

Except for Samsung mobile which posted a huge loss for q2 and as the report I linked to states: Samsung mobile will incur further operating losses for the three consecutive quarters this year.

Thats not very good, Samsung electronics is not a charity it will not absorb the loss of Samsung mobile. There will be consequences.
But thats the difference between business and charities.

"Samsung Electronics as a whole posted a record-high consolidated operating profit driven by high semiconductor and AI memory chip prices, those same soaring RAM and component costs squeezed the mobile division into a rare quarterly loss"

Again: intramural accounting smoke and mirrors. Bottom line is the profit has already absorbed the loss.

Exactly Samsung electronics and every subsidiary posted record profits, except Samsung Mobile.

Samsung Mobile is predicted to post a severe operating loss for two more quarters this year for three consecutive quarters.

Hope Samsung electronics continues to absorb the operating losses from Samsung Mobile for a long time to come.

Apples and road apples; Apple doesn't have any separate, standalone component manufacturing divisions or subsidiaries that sells or buys parts commercially to/from other tech companies or particularly component divisions. Apple does rely on Samsung, TSMC, and Foxconn as external partners for outsourced fabrication and component manufacture but also, that's another accounting story.

Samsung Electronics is NOT "carrying" the Mobile division; it is part of the company. Part of the companies profitable accounting sales are to it's Mobile Division. There is little danger of Samsung Mobile Division going under. The Division's posted losses are actually profits in the mirror when you look through the smoke. 🤣

Samsung Mobile is a subsidiary, it cannot go under. But there will be restructuring and accountability.

For example Shipments will start declining over the next few quarters. Probably budget and midrange first. If that does stop the hemorrhage, flagships will be last.

The Chinese Android oems did the opposite and axed the flagships first to retain marketshare.

I think @TPadden 's point is Samsung MX is buying parts from Samsung Electronics. Samsung is both the buyer and seller here. The money is just moving from one pocket to the other. It's not a true loss to be worried about.

Some, but they don’t get any preferential treatment or a reduction in cost. Those other subsidiaries need to maintain a profit which is tied to employee bonuses. It’s a big thing in Korea. And quite cutthroat.

In fact, Samsung display treats Apple better than Samsung Mobile and Apple gets a discount while Samsung mobile does not. Make it make sense.

More like from your pocket to your brothers.

Now that the Fold 8 has been released.. what are the wishlist you have for the Fold 9? Realistic speaking… because I doubt Samsung adds a telephoto lens, because I’m sure they will reserve that for the Fold 9 Ultra. I don’t think they do anything to the cameras… maybe some changes to the selfie cams, but doubt we see any improvements to the main camera.

One thing I know they will change is the bezels on the cover display… think that’s a layup for Samsung, I think the wide footprint will be slightly reduced with shrinking the bezels. Perhaps, Samsung adds dust protection to the Fold series… so that will include both the Fold 9 & Ultra models. Maybe they add MagSafe to the Fold series as well.

And supposedly we will get a 2nm processor for the upcoming Snapgragon chip, so we will see improvements in battery and performance. As much as I want to see some drastic improvements… don’t think we get any, but I am expecting to see some worthy upgrades for the Fold 9 Ultra.

Since they were willing to make the Fold 8 a little thicker than the Fold 7, maybe S Pen support returns for the Fold 9 Wide Ultra? It is plausible that the Wide Ultra has the internal space to contain a mini S Pen, more so than the regular Ultra. Or maybe add anti-reflective screen from S26 Ultra.

The Fold8 is practically perfect for what it's trying to achieve with this size and form factor imo. Like you said, they won't add a telephoto lens solely to keep the Ultra "Ultra". And there's no other glaring omissions that really need to be addressed. Maybe they'll add a vapor chamber and/or magnets, perhaps move one of the speakers to the other side to give us true stereo when opened, but other than that... I fully expect the Fold9 to be a minor refresh at most.

After having some doubts about the Fold 8, I decided to order one and actually use it. I see a lot of people love it, so why not? I don’t care about the photo quality, I have an iPhone 17 Pro Max for that.

I want the inner selfie cam to return to under screen and not visible 🙂

IP68, tent mode and SPen would be nice too
