You charge the Fold 8 for like 10 mins im sure it will give you an extra 3-4 hours etc. You live once, don't overthink it and enjoy life 🙂

If a Foldable device is going to replace a phone & tablet for someone, then they’ll be chewing through cycles much faster, so in a year, I can see the battery efficiency dropping faster than their prior devices.

Hopefully the Silicon Carbon battery can counter the increased use & extend its life.

You may be right but I am currently rocking the Oppo Find X9 Pro, so battery wise I am bit spoiled 😀

Got to play with the new phones at Best Buy last night. Love the Fold 8, it's perfect for me. I was also impressed with the Flip 8. The outer screen bezel is nearly gone but when opened the phone is still a bit too narrow and tall for me. Fold 8 Ultra, I held it for 15 seconds and put it down, feels the same as the Fold 7. Played with the Fold 8 some more and couldn't stop smiling. One of those times when I can just tell / feel it, didn't need to see any more. Can't wait!

Samsung keeps torturing me with different delivery dates 😭

Went from the 5th of August initially to July 29th, down to today before going back to 29th yesterday and today they updated yet again to the 30th of July 🫣 probably not happening either

I popped into a Tmobile store to check out the Fold 8/Ultra. The Wide is much wider than I imagined. While I can one-hand it, I can't reach the top left corner but probably won't need to most of the time. Two-hand typing on the split keyboard is very comfortable on the Wide and YouTube videos are equal in size versus the 8 Ultra in landscape mode.

Not that I care, but the Fold 8 has a wider and more noticeable crease than the truly imperceptible crease on the Fold 8 Ultra. Either phone's crease is still less noticeable than all previous Folds.

It's not a clear obvious choice for me between the two versions. The Wide has a cute shape but almost feels too wide to fit into my pants pocket. I use the telephoto lens a fair amount so that's appealing on the Ultra. But I noticed the 8 Ultra feels a little too narrow. I put my TriFold up against it and the 8 Ultra is clearly almost 1/8" narrower despite both phones supposedly having the same 6.5" 21:9 cover screen. Whereas the Fold 7/TriFold cover screen seems perfectly sized to be usable to me, the 8 Ultra's cover screen seems too skinny.

Tough choice to make. I think the 8 Wide strikes a great balance, but then I also prefer the larger inner screen of the Ultra for overall content and note-taking. I don't like that Samsung went backwards and made the 8 Ultra cover screen narrower.

That hasn't been my experience. Whether iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, Fold 4/5/6/TriFold, they all got me through a full day, from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep, with ~15-25% left. They all were charged daily at bedtime and my foldables didn't need any extra cycles than my iPhones. The iPhones may have had 30-35% left at bedtime but not enough to change nightly charging habits.

Actually, of all those listed phones, the iPhone 12 Pro Max easily had the worst battery degradation after a year. IIRC it was something like 84% or 86% battery health when I traded it in. That 12PM really sucked when it came to battery longevity.

Did you get a tracking number already from your delivery company or are you going by the date on Samsung's website on your order's info? That date keeps changing from me. Mine also says it will be delivered tomorrow on the 30th, but I won't believe it until I get a message saying that DHL has my package today, otherwise it's too unrealistic 😔

I think the Ultra is an objectively better phone but the regular 8 has a more user friendly form factor. I wish the 8 had the Ultra cameras.

Hmm ok, so i'm looking at those figures; if the Folds had 15-25% remaining & the iPhones had 30-35% on a pretty consistent basis, then the batteries of the Folds would be going through their cycles in roughly half the time, so in theory, their battery degradation should be twice as fast?? Not sure, but just going off the numbers.

That 12 Pro Max really had a shocker of a battery.

One of the most underrated features on the Flips/Folds is the cover screen preview when taking a photo. I always have that turned on when taking pics with my Flip7. It's the one thing that always gets people commenting how they love that feature. People like seeing how they look when the pic is being taken. Well the Fold 8 takes it to a much higher level due to the much bigger cover screen. I don't know why anyone would ever use the small selfie cameras. Not even for a quick pic.

The other very useful feature the Folds have, that other other phones don't have, is being able to see the pics on the other half of the display, as you take them.

As I've already said, I think this will become the mainstream form factor as foldables become more mainstream.

I've always gravitated to industrial design when it comes to bigger devices like the Note series and now the bigger foldables. Industrial design relies heavily on repeating geometric cues. Samsung’s boxy corners reinforce the Fold’s architectural, precision‑engineered character. The eye expects symmetry in a device that literally folds in half. Mixing corner styles introduces noise into that geometry, and breaks the visual harmony. Mixing soft, rounded corners on one side with sharp, angular corners on the hinge side, creates a split visual language. It makes the product look like two unrelated shapes forced to meet at a hinge rather than one cohesive form. So please Samsung, do not change this.

If you're concerned about full charge cycles, it would take at least one week (7 days × 15% less daily battery) for the Folds to add an extra charge cycle compared to the iPhone(s) -- hardly twice the rate you're calculating. Nevertheless, my Folds and iPhones shared the same nightly charging routine. In a year, that may equate to 50 extra charging cycles on a Fold battery, which is nothing dramatic considering contemporary iPhones and Samsung flagship phone batteries are designed to retain 80% charge after 1000-2000 full charge cycles (except my 12 Pro Max, apparently). That's comparable to 3-6 years of daily normal charging behavior. I wouldn't get too worried over it.

A smartphone is a tool to me and the Folds have easily been my favorite phones of all time. I can't go back to a slab iPhone. I won't. Now that Apple is finally releasing a foldable iPhone my curiosity is piqued, but it all depends how well they optimize iOS/iPadOS. Samsung's OneUI really makes their foldables shine and Apple will do well to copy many of the features.
