Yes they do. I had to go to best buy Friday and checked out the 8 again and man, I know the cameras are a significant downgrade from my Pixel but that form factor in such a light phone is amazing.

Looks I’m switching to android again. My carrier had a deal where they offered an additional £600 trade in value for your old phone if you upgraded to a Fold 8/Fold 8 Ultra. Got £863 trade in for a 15 Pro.
Getting delivered on Wednesday (could have had it Monday but I’m working Monday-Tuesday)
Most expensive part of this was buying the Samsung Ultra Watch 2 to replace my Apple Watch Ultra 2. I’m keeping my AirPods Pro 3 though, I don’t care about Spatial Audio, I will miss the heartbeat sensor not working though.

Absolutely! My goodness I'm not the only one that feels this way! Samsung has been known to just ship things off... receive orders way earlier than expected.
But for some reason... it all changed, it's crazy how a shipping label was generated a week ago and no movement has been made.

Yeah, I sense you value camera above all else... you still have the TriFold? How's it holding up?
You must either be very new to Samsung pre-order shipping procedures or very old because at least for the last 7 years they have held initial pre-orders at shippers and released them all on the same day. Usually 2-4 days before the announced release date; that goes for phones, watches, and tablets. NOTHING has changed. 😉
Though high demand has pushed some new orders and specific color variants into late August, If pre-orders haven't started moving by the official release date of August 7, 2026; something has changed. 🙂

just got notification from DPD saying mine should be delivered tomorrow.
Just got back from comparing the Fold 8 models at Best Buy. I wasn't really impressed by the Fold 8 wide at all. Not only is it more uncomfortable to hold in the hand (too wide) compared to the Fold 8 Ultra, the quality of the text on the front screen was much smaller and less clear to read. If I was going to choose between the two, the Ultra is the clear winner.

I sold it as I just wasn’t using it enough for the cost. Amazing tech though just was a hard pill to swallow. I sold it and it paid for my hoilday this year

I wonder if Android users think it’s a fair trade that so many of their OS features have been belatedly copied by Apple, & now Apple’s passbook chosen Foldable form factor is now copied by Samsung? 😏

Oh...that's right they haven't......But Samsung has been releasing folding phones for 8 years.
The passbook or wide format is just a natural progression of folding phones.
Don't forget they also have a flip phone and a Tri-fold phone.
So offering another choice in the wide format is just a natural progression in their folding phone line up.

I preordered the Fold 4 and 6, never have I seen them generate shipping label and wait a week to ship it.
I'm not focused on the release/delivery date... but the entire process, whenever a label shipping label is generated and sent to the customer. That signals shipping is imminent... dropped off to the carrier and will see it move throughout the network within a day or two.
If I had gotten the shipping label around the 3rd or 4th, great! That's understandable... it was received around the 24th, which is strange territory to me.

I feel completely the opposite. That's why it's good that we have options. I love the wide and it feels perfect for typing and swiping on the keyboard. I'm coming from a Fold 2, Fold 4, Fold 5, Fold 6, and currently a Fold 7. So I guess you could say I'm a little tired of the narrow and height of the foldable when closed lol
I do love my Fold 7 so I can understand why the Fold 8 is attractive

So let's put this into a workplace scenario:
You’ve got Employee A.
They’re the one who actually built the project from scratch. They took the risks, spent years researching, prototyping, fixing failures, convincing leadership the idea was even worth pursuing. They carried the entire initiative on their back for 7 years an counting.
Then there’s Employee B.
For 7 years, they sat on the sidelines. No contributions. No innovation. No risk. No ownership. Just… observing. But Employee B is extremely popular with a majority of the leadership and staff. So they get by with doing very little.
One day, Employee B finally decides to get involved — not by creating anything new, but by making a tiny cosmetic tweak to Employee A’s work. Something so small it barely qualifies as a modification. And suddenly:
- Leadership showers Employee B with praise
- Coworkers act like Employee B “reinvented the wheel”
To make things even more pathetic,
- People start claiming Employee A is "copying" Employee B
- The entire history of who actually built the foundation gets erased
Classic brain rot thinking. Anyone with the slightest bit of ambition in their workplace knows this scenario, and Employee B all too well.
So the idea that Samsung, the company that created the category, is waiting for Apple’s nonexistent foldable is just fantasy.
That being said, let us not forget that Multiple Android OEMs shipped 4:3 foldables YEARS before Samsung’s Fold 8
Honor Magic V (2022), Honor Magic V2 (2023), Oppo Find N (2021), Oppo Find N2 (2022), Huawei Mate X3 (2023) — all of these used squarer inner displays long before Samsung adopted it and long before Apple even whispered about a foldable.
If Samsung “copied Apple,” then apparently Honor, Oppo, and Huawei were also copying Apple before Apple even existed in the foldable space. Which… yeah, no.
Bottom line: Innovation in the tech space today only happens in the Android space. You blink, and you're dust.
Interesting, but isn't the Fold 8 Wide reported to have a slightly higher PPI for the cover screen than the Fold 8 Ultra (428 vs 422)? I mean, they're both pretty similar pixel density on the cover screens and should offer similar font sharpness/clarity.
The most obvious thing to me between the two phones is the Fold 8 Ultra looks oddly tall and narrow this year. I know the specs say it's the same 6.5" cover screen, and maybe the bezels shrunk or something, but the F8U seems more cramped to type on, whereas the F8 Wide is very comfortable to type on the cover screen and inner screen.
If the TriFold didn't exist then I'd probably say Fold 8 Wide > Fold 7 > Fold 8 Ultra.
The proportions of the F8U look strange to me in-person and not as balanced as the Fold 7. Plus, there's not a whole lot of advantages of the F8U over a discounted Fold 7. I guess what I'm trying to say is, if I had a Fold 7 then I'd be tempted to upgrade to the Fold 8 Wide, but would skip the Fold 8 Ultra.

When I 1st read this prior to your edit I thought you were implying if you could get a new F7 say at 1000-1200 before trade in, it would be a better bang for your buck than a F8, for new fold users 🙂
Post your edit, that's what I am doing initially, going for the F8 and trade in my F7. Not because I think there is any real big advantage to the F8 over the F8U, I just fancied a change after 7 Folds 🙂

And it seems like that's the consensus among Fold 7 users... I bet if Samsung never released the Fold 8 Wide, and kept the status quo with the aforementioned Fold 8 now called Ultra would not get much traction.
I'd imagine next year... Samsung playbook will lead to making Fold 9 Ultra a big upgrade while making the Fold 9 as modest as possible. Are you planning on upgrading next year to the TriFold?
Which also begs the question, would Samsung have made the Fold 8 Wide on their own if the foldable iPhone wasn't in play?
As for my upgrade plans, I plan to sit it out next year as well. There's really no clear upgrade path from the TriFold. Without S Pen in the current lineup there really isn't a distinction between Samsung foldables besides form factor and screen size (and I'd be giving up quite a bit of screen size to go Wide). Maybe I have to wait for the TriFold² someday. Regardless, I love that foldables are becoming more mainstream with great options from Samsung (and soon Apple).

I really like the X9 Ultra and Pro. What made you buy the Ultra? Just for the great cameras? How's 4K video recording quality compared to the king (iPhone)?

I listed my S26U...but might not go through with it. The S26U is pretty awesome. So if figured i would try the Fold 8 for a few days. If it blows me away then I will go through with the trade in.
