Blade 15 has pretty poor battery life
Aero 14 v8 has an amazing battery life which is comparable with battery life in MBP 15 TB 2018

People say this, but we are talking 80 Wh vs 94 Wh batteries, so it’ll be better by maybe an hour, 1.5 hours for very very light usage perhaps.

A lot of the reviews I think are inconsistent due to settings - eg battery profile on one might be different to the other so not being a like for like test. I’d also set it to 60HZ for productivity based battery tests.

better check the reviews

and

Aero has about 2 times longer battery usage during wifi web surfing

still you can't get 10hours on Blade 15 even on 60Hz

Like I said, I wouldn’t take reviews as gospel. I’d rather base it on logic, by the hardware.

You don’t get double the life with 14 Wh when you use the same GPU/display, so only explanation is the settings...

but Display isn't the same also depends of design of motherboard when laptop barely use any energy, few Watts on energy efficiency can be crucial

and also main question do you really need GTX 1070?

The 144hz display is the same LG panel on both. Even the motherboard is the same, as is the CPU and GPU.

I’m telling you now, the difference is down to test settings, not 14 Wh.

There is nothing to stop you getting 10 hours on a video play back test using an 80 Wh battery on a 1080p screen if set to 60 Hz.

And no, I would get the GTX 1060 version.

Thinkpad x1 extreme was on my radar too until recently and still is, but it's got its own issues as well. I'd advise to do your own research before buying. I usually start at reddit as they seem to have some of the most vocal people on the planet. From what I've read x1e has:

  • short battery life (5-6 hours)
  • performance throttling on battery power (apparently turbo boost doesn't work on battery power)
  • overheating (> 90C)
etc. Durability and reliability wise it doesn't seem on par w/ T series. It's a 1st gen product, so I'd wager it will take some time to mature like all others.

Which laptops are you comparing ?

Aero 15X and Razer Blade 15.

I saw a couple of reviews recently which had the Aero 15X have ~8 hours battery and Razer under ~3 hours for the same test - which made me distrust "tests".

from Gigabyte you will get 2 years warranty, can you get 2 years warranty on Razer?

I'm not sure about current Razer warranty because I recently bought slightly used Razer Blade Pro 17

Nope, you can't in the UK. I would be getting around that by purchasing 3 years warranty+accidental via store (UK equiv of BestBuy). You also have option of a 2 year warranty+accidental via Amazon.

The Aero 15X is almost a perfect laptop - however it is plagued with some keyboard issues and I am not fan of the numpad/trackpad layout, so decided against it.

Amazon is nice, recently I returned for warranty graphics card and LCD monitor and they fully refunded me, because they doesn't have replacements on the stock

Razer has a nice keyboard and one of the best trackpad from pc gaming laptops, if the battery will not meet expectations you can always do return

I am confident I can get enough out of the battery, 80Wh is 80Wh and it is only a 1080p screen. For productivity, I am not concerned about battery life at all. What I would have liked is a glass edge to edge screen (only available in 4K option), Windows Hello and full key back-lighting perhaps.

I got a magic keyboard today and its simply awesome. Will be mostly using my MBP with this. All apple has to do is put the magic keyboard in their MBP. There is no need to reinvent the keyboard. It is already perfect and apple you already know how to make them.

And yes, X1E does cost more. But you get better ports, way better build quality, and probably the best keyboard out there. For me just the keyboard part is worth the price, build quality is just icing on the cake :)

Also, at least where I'm at, part of the price difference is three years of warranty vs. one.

I am using the Microsoft Modern Keyboard at the moment (which is probably similar to the Magic keyboard) and the typing experience is godlike.

That's interesting. I almost swapped my 4th faulty MBP for the new air and at the last second decided to try another MBP thinking if they have the same keyboard why sacrifice what I really want which is the MBP. Need to search around a bit and see if anyone has reported issues with the new Air KB.

It should be the same as the 2018 rMBP models with the Gen 3 butterfly keyboard, and yes, some users report problems.

Windows Hello isn’t only for logins. I’ve quickly grown to love it with 1Password authentication on my Surface Book.

Windows Hello is awesome. The best way to log on a computer. Its fast and instantaneous the moment you open the laptop from sleep

I won't get a new Apple laptop simply because you just know the next Macbook Pros will have Face ID, and they're already phasing out Touch ID on their phones...old ones work fine

I got myself yesterday the new MBP 15, with core i9, 32GB Ram, and i'm loving it, except for the TB which is so stupid, but my biggest issue right now is the keyboard. Did some people get used to it over time, cause after one day, i kinda hate it...

You get used to it, it’s not the best or enjoyable - what I can’t get over is it’s reliability.

Another one bites the dust... Poor guy, he probably thought it was some software/settings issue!
