I went yesterday as well (to Stonebriar in DFW). They didn't have any there. They were hoping that they'd have some by the weekend though.

I'm not too worried about the KB. Apple has acknowledged there's an issue in the current MBP and given a four year warranty on the KB. I'd expect they'd do the same. Now, it might be painful parting from your machine if it does happen -- and if it does, I'd probably look to sell it after it got fixed. But the risk right now is low enough for me that I was willing to purchase sight unseen.

Someone just uploaded a photo of chatting with a apple representative saying that the 2018 MacBooks have fixed the keyboard issues and won’t be in the list of the repair program for 2016s and 2017s keyboard issues

I think we will have to wait an see for a teardown of the Gen 3 keyboard to see what sets them apart. as far as I know there is no external indicator like there were between gen 1 and gen 2

Usually how long will it take after release for the teardown from trusty professionals to show up?

Sounds less noisy. People throw their iPad and iPhone from tall buildings for testing. Why not bring the MBP2018 to the beach to test how durable the keyboard is?

Like i said, they planned obsolete the 2016 keyboard..they panted this silicon since late 2016

Hard to say if the membrane has any functions apart from noise reduction. Could possibly be the solution, but until we get more reports of people getting/not getting stuck keys it's really hard to say.
Its the otherway around, that dust membrane make it silent too

Conspiracy theory much?
When it is it is, with official documents, but im glad that finally we get what we payed for, a reliable keyboard

Ya, thanks for testing out the keyboard for us guys :) looks like now is the time to purchase a new MBP, this is all in all not just a spec update ! Better/fixed speakers, better/fixed keyboard, Siri chip, True Tone, 4tb hdd option AND 32GB, everyone should be happy.

Not hard to say at all. Obviously it’ll keep away dust and other debris.

I find the lack of empathy in some forum members towards people who actually paid money for their devices really sad.

No one was "testing" the keyboard for you. People didn't pay premium prices to test anything. It's Apple's fault that they released something that came with issues, so leave users out of your cynical comments, if possible.

Sorry man but that’s not the intent. It’s to “all” those that played down the whole keyboard fiasco. Having had my gfx failure Mac away for repair multiple times and for multiple weeks being without a Mac and dealing with ignorant repair shops was HORRIBLE, so this is actually a jab against those that are like “screw your time away from the computer due to replacement programs because of Apple design faults” and playing down the issue as if it’s not a big deal for potential buyers: tháts lack of empathy and understanding for other people’s time and money. And also if you’ve spent any time on macrumors you would know the advice is to wait till second/third gen or at least till tests are there, and we knew about the keyboard problem soon in 2016 but so many people still advised buying one. So blame them, or better yet Apple, not me for stating facts in a dry humor kind of way :)

Tried out the keyboard today at a retail store. Definitely quieter than the 2017 and much, much better than the super-clacky 2016. The keys feel slightly more "tactile" and as a result the "typing on cardboard" feeling of the 2016-gen that so many people disliked is greatly reduced.

That said, the travel distance is the same as before, so if you didn't like it before you won't suddenly love it now.

Reliability? The introduction of the built-in silicone cover is very good news, but only time will tell.

My 2016 15-inch is in keyboard replacement process now. I wonder whether they will replace with this new membrane version, backported to 2016 topcase...

Looks like you should be getting the third gen ;)

I will be really very happy. 2016 15-inch 512GB 455 can go a long way. Will get a 13-inch next when 32GB LPDDR4 option is offered and keyboard gets further improvements.

I see no reason for Apple to not replace with this membrane version.

For what it's worth, they had also said it is going to be an updated version after all:

Take that with a grain of salt. Apple is facing multiple class action lawsuits regarding 2016/17 keyboards. If they advertise that a new model "fixes" the problems, then they are admitting a design flaw inherent to previous models. Instead, they'd rather stick to the narrative that it's a "tiny, tiny minority" being affected.
- Written on my 2017 keyboard which required about 30 corrections in the space of one paragraph due to keyboard issues.

Wouldn’t sealing the keys make the sounds more quiet? And oh by the way help keep them clean.

Is that even an option is what I’d love to know! Or can only the 2018 tb get the 3rd generation.

I guess a lot of ppl are waiting to see whether you can get an updated keyboard with built-in membrane.

Yea.. or Apple will run down it’s supply of 2017 top cases and use them in repairs. Thy have likely calculated the failure rate, if it’s less than some number in 3 years they’ll use the 2017 option.

Pffft. You guys are ridiculous. It clearly has intent to keep crud out of the mechanism and Apples own patent says exactly that.

I have found half of the time those customer service reps either have no idea what they are talking about or they tell white lies with what you want to hear. I would also be hesitant to trust someone who can barely type in coherent English like that particular rep. I would bet you anything that you will not be getting the 2018 keyboard.

But why would Apple want to prolong this fiasco by not replacing with the fix already in their hand?

Just got a new 2018 Pro, upgrading from a 2013 Air. At the store yesterday they first sent me home with a 2017 accidentally.

I don't have a ton of experience with the 2017 keyboard other than the brief time I had it at home before returning it and testing it out in the store.

That said, I do feel like there's a definite difference in feel between the 2017 and 2018. The new one feels less metallic, if that makes sense. As a lover of mechanical keyboards, I was really concerned about not liking this keyboard, but so far I'm pleased.
