Wait, so I have to pay ANOTHER $3 to get that Touch Dial Emoji ****.
Nah, forget it.
It's not worth it.

How would I revert to 2.2 on a Mac?
Is there a way other than to restore to an earlier backup?
The vista guy gave me PC talk and I don't understand.
Nevermind, You hold option + restore, then search for 2.2 ipsw and it begins extracting. We'll see if this works!
I can verify this works. I can also verify that the world is full of scared, fear spreading, misinformed people.
"oooh 2.2.1 disables emoji! downgrade! don't upgrade! run!!! WTF APPLE??? OMG!!!"
This is why the global economy, and especially the US economy are tanking. People hear one or 2 anecdotes and run with them.
I have tried this and it errors out in the middle, which forces you to do a regular restore and then a restore from backup. It sucks. Just wait for the FrostyPlace update and use that when it is here.

Yeah, it did restore my phone but is now 2.2 with emoji, yay.
beats paying 3.99 for another app, well, now I'll update back to 2.2.1. Come on snappiness!
Will restoring to a backup just wipe out the emoji though? arrgh
I did this successfully. What you need to do is download the 2.2 quickpwn tool. After you get the errors, run quickpwn. No need to jailbreak (just unselect any of the jailbreaking install options), then you can start your phone in 2.2, get the emoji icons working and then upgrade to 2.2.1. It took a couple hours, but it's worth it for those of us who don't want to spend another $4 or jailbreak to get emoji icons.
Ah, thanks for detailing that for me. So, when it errors, run QuickPwn, then upgrade. Will it resync all my notes and alarms, etc after quickpwn? Thanks!
The people you text have to have an iPhone, too in order to see Emjoi.Did the frostyplace thang and got emoji on my iPhone 3G
without much trouble but the people I text just see boxes.
What's going wrong?
Well, I guess we now know how to coax an update out of AT&T; slip a feature by them that they don't want. Otherwise, they will just sit on their asses. Maybe during one of these update "fixes" they will slip cut and paste into it.
AT&T didn't release this update ....
Has anyone tried doing this in 2.2.1? I know if you already had emoji enabled before, they still work, but I just downloaded the app now (I've already updated to 2.2.1) and I get this error every time I open the app:
![]()
How in the hell did you accomplish that!? Mine just errors and then when I restore again it goes back to 2.2.1
What is your problem? It does disable the 99 cent emoji method, and many people are still buying the frostyplace app thinking it will work in 2.2.1 and being sorely disappointed. While I agree that the US is the most afraid country on earth and that's not a good thing, I hardly think its relevant in this issue.

I tried doing this (quickpwn) and it wouldn't recognize my phone and itunes said it needed to be restored...
Any insight?
Well I let iTunes restore it again and now quickpwn said it didn't support the version, which is obviously 2.2.1. I can't figure out how to get back to 2.2
You have to restore to 2.2. Just clicking restore will restore to the current version (2.2.1). Hold down select when you click restore and find the 2.2 firmware on your computer. The instructions are listed earlier in this thread.
