Ok, I've upgraded and everything is nice and happy but I can't seem to get geofencing to work within Reminders.

My MobileMe account has been upgraded to iCloud but all I get when trying to set an reminder is the ability to set a date based reminder not a location based.

What am I doing wrong?

I second this, although i haven't touched the icloud preference settings. But there doesn't appear to be any way to select locations in reminders in the GM?

Same here. No locations option in reminders.

Also, I'm not able to put Newsstand in a folder and the camera isn't available from the unlock screen.

Anyone else experiencing this? In on a 3GS

after you create your reminder go to remind me it is automatically set to never. fro there you can choose "On a day" or "at a location"

For locations, are you in an area with reception? Dunno if that would help, just throwing it out there.

For the camera, double-tap the home button on the unlock screen.

I installed it last night and it's been smooth sailing. I'm a non delevoper with a Verizon iPhone 4.

That's very strange. What device are you using?

Haha tell me about it! An iPhone 4, and never have hacked or jailbroken it. Just installed the GM last night. Sucks because that's the feature I was most looking forward to using!

Like some others have said, Reminders doesn't even show up under location services for me either.

Same here. Was as easy as restoring your phone. If you have any experiance with jailbreaking, putting ios 5 on your phone is a breeze. Absolutely loving iOS 5. Can't put the phone down.

***FIGURED IT OUT!!!***

I have my mobileme and exchange email setup for work on my iPhone. In the Mail, Contacts, Calendars part of the system preferences, scroll down all the way to the bottom to the Reminders preferences. Mine was set to make tasks by default to my EXCHANGE account. Switching it to "on my iPhone" opened up the location option within the Reminders app!

In the app, tap the upper left 3 line icon, and select "on my iPhone" to keep just that list active.

Hmm...now by doing this it keeps location services on all the time (duh)...wonder what kind of battery life hit that'll do...

Does anyone have a "Due Date" field in Reminders in a reminder created on the iPhone? Not a "Remind me on a day" but a true due date?

It should only keep your location on until you enter/leave the locations on the reminders you have set up today (or whatever day becomes today after today (paradox))

For example: I set a location based reminder today, i had the little arrow indicating it was using my location until i reached the geofence, then when i responded to the reminder, it disappeared. I still have a location-based reminder set up for tomorrow, but it's not using my location.

Just installed on iPhone 4 and iPad 1, seems snappier than beta 7.. Had to restore both devices as opposed to update

I was able to use PowerISO in Windows to open the DMG file to extract the .ipsw file. My iTunes version says 10.5.0.113. Even though I downloaded the beta 7 of iTunes it does not look correct. What should the version say for Windows 64 bit?

I keep on getting this error message:

"The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (14)."

I installed iOS 10.5 beta 7 and I downloaded the GM copy. I tried to install the GM via the restore method. It wont' work.

What am I doing wrong?

can confirm that this works great! well... newstands won't let me hide it in a folder. idk why. it's really annoying because it's like a blank app that won't disappear!

Thats because Newstand is actually a folder, not an app.

iOS 5 GM on 3GS (8GB)

I am not a dev but since the iOS 3 GM i have the habit of installing the GM as soon as it is available. Went smoothly with iOS 5 too.
Procedure was:
- Transfer purchases and backup iPhone (twice, to make sure everything was saved)
- Backup iTunes library to external HD
- Download iOS 5 GM & iTunes 10.5 beta9
- Install iTunes b9
- Connect iPhone 3GS, alt-click restore to select the iOS 5 GM .ipsw
- Let it do its thing
- Set up & activate over wifi
- Restore from backup
- and voilà.

I am actually impressed by the responsiveness of iOS 5 on an "old" 3GS. I am positive that it is a bit zippier than 4.3.5.
Not too disappointed with the functionalities either, camera app from the lock screen opens almost instantly. Backup over wifi seems to work fine in the background. Notifications center is a welcome addition too. And basic photo editing (crop, auto-enhance, red-eye, rotate) is available and not too laggy.

Given how well iOS 5 behaves on the 3GS (8GB), i think i will give the 4S a miss and wait for the 5 to come out. Thank you Apple for making me save money :)

So to wrap it up, it is safe for non devs to upgrade to the GM (never had a problem myself), however some basic backup precautions (see walkthrough above) are in order... And iOS 5 works so well on the 3GS that it'd be a shame to wait another week to try it out :p
