I have this issue. But I mostly experience it when using split view with Twitter so I assumed the Twitter app was the issue (it does crash frequently).

My iPad 12.9” had this problem, until I bent it back’n’forth a couple of times, then clamshelled it closed and shook it violently for a few seconds.

Now it works just fine.

(Please! No one try this based on my suggestion. You need real skill for this kinda thing.)

...careful, you could be accused of attempted iPadicide :p

Do they simulate the dust buildup too?

Quick, someone try a tin of compressed air.

It seems like they rushed this iPad to the market! I bought one and ended up returning it after a few weeks. I was constant worried about dropping it or bending it accidentally. I never had this fear with the previous gen. iPads. I am going to stick with my 10.5" Pro for at least another year or two.

I wonder if it’s an issue with ProMotion?
Probably something software related in terms of the feature. This is quite interesting.
Unless you have evidence or the exact number impacted or at least SOME data, these threads just perpetuate the nonsense people echo on this forum.

"Quality has declined."
"Yet more issues."
"Apple shipping flawd products."
"Hardware issue."
"Where is quality control?"

A couple of threads doesn't speak for the 45M iPads Apple shipped last year alone.
Agreed. Especially now that Apple is more popular and the online community is more active. We never got articles for the numerous issues in Steve Jobs’s life. Now, bugs are revenue builders for MR, 9to5Mac, etc.
I'm saving this quote for the next time a random number of, Samsung, Microsoft etc products have a slight flaw.
Rule applies to them as well. Well, maybe not Microsoft so much because PC Manufacturers have drivers issues.

Same problem with my 12.9 2017 model, when using the pencil sometimes doesn’t recognise the strokes and the gestures.

If it were a software issue it would be much more prevalent. And those who get their defective units replaced would encounter the same problem once they put back all the Apps they had before and use it the same way they did on the last one.

No this is a hardware quality control issue. Which brings up the question of how do you test for the 1 out of a 100 HW failure if you only test a few "good" prototypes/lab models? Is there a facility somewhere in China with thousands of people/robots pushing on every area of each display?

i have iPad Pro the 1st gen i think. and after the iOS update (newest as of this time) i have started to notice sometimes i gets unresponsive. way more then prior the update. in regards to stuttering i did notice them all the time but it was not to bad and i thought this is maybe how it should be... oh i was wrong.

My iPad Pro 2017 has this issue. Apple refused to listen or test properly. Now it sits on a self unused.

This has started happening on my 2015 12" iPad Pro. I’d say this started a few weeks ago. Part of the screen (lower right side of the screen) stops working. After a restart, it works just fine for a while.

I know this isn't exactly related to the article, but it is relevant to the screens. The 120hz refresh rates on the pro models is immediately noticeable, and it makes using the other iPads pretty difficult once you have used them.

Every single message I have sent on my iPad is garbeled because despite the fact of tapping it correctly, characters are always missing. There have been times ive typed slower and harder to hear the tap and still unresponsive. The caps lock button typically takes 2-3 taps before engaging.

I have similar issues with my iPad pro, one of the first year they produced it. The Apple Pencil is a pig and I gave up using it. Using the on-screen keyboard is flaky and display similar. But I only really use the iPad to read books from Amazon kindle format so I don't want the hassle of trying to get Apple to do anything about it. It was a problem since day one but I fear a replacement would be just as bad or worse. And for the price why not pay $200 or so more and get a MBA? I did buy the AppleCare plus though

Apple can't seem to do anything right anymore. Then when they are confronted about it, they offer a generic public statement and move on to the next thing. They can't even make quality products at this point. As I've often said in recent months...a shell of their former selves. I wish someone would just dethrone this POS company already. It's not on the level it should be for the premiums they charge over their active competition, they need to be taught a lesson, once and for all.
Oh sure, give them more reason to not care once their reputation is destroyed. So much for those that have invested tons of money into hardware and you want to make them care even less.

Lol I have the same problem, but on my iPhone. It’s clearly a software issue, something is boogered up in the keyboard/scroll code. I haven’t let it bother me because it does not happen every time. It also very likely could be an issue with an app, or with the website I am using. If it happened like some of these users say every time, I wouldn’t feel the same way.

Apple could be upfront and report the number of reported/validated cases instead of hiding it with statements like, “a small number of......”.
A percentage of absolute figure would be good.
Small is a relative term and is unhelpful.
Why would they report failure rates? Seriously.

Allow me to make a rare positive comment: I got the original smaller iPad Pro a few years ago and I’ve had no problems with it. It also remains my favorite tech device.

With that out of the way, it’s too bad Apple can’t seem to get their S together lately. Especially when the pad format is supposedly dying off it’s more important than ever to do well on these devices.

I'm saving his quote and yours for the time that you and @Baymowe335 gets this same keyboard issue yourselves.
I would just take it up with Apple's outstanding customer service. Seriously, it's not that big of a deal. They will take care of you if you're not a jerk and just let them know the situation. I had an iPad replaced with zero questions because it had a small screen issue. Took about 10 minutes and they were happy to do it.

My iPad pros (11 & ‘18 12.9) both seem to have several software glitches that I don’t see on my iPhones. My iPads have locked up twice now requiring me to have to google to figure out how to reboot them. Other little things like iMessages not showing the input space (requiring close/restart of the app) pop up intermittently. It just feels like iOS on iPad is not a polished as it is on iPhone. No doubt the amount of error reporting for the latter is much higher.

I’m glad my iPad Pro isn’t effected. It’s such an amazing tool combined with my MacBook Pro; revising and commenting technical drawings.

But I have noticed a similar problem with my iPhone XS. Sometimes when I unlock and immediately start swiping to the next screen, the screen displays my swipe as a keyboard swipe; showing the different letters that I “touch”, as if there is a keyboard. It’s only there for a second and then I can swipe normally again. Does anyone else have this problem?

Yup, over here!
My 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 didn‘t have any issues whatsoever since i bought it in December. I’m still on 12.1.1 though and after reading this thread I’m gonna keep it that way for now.

My XS though has something similar to what you’re describing going on.. Unlocking the iPhone, trying to do something but then there‘s this half visible overlay of a keyboard in the bottom of the screen, registering touches on letters. Doesn‘t make sense as there shouldn‘t be a keyboard in the homescreen at all. Gone after a few seconds though, still annoying!

Does anybody know if there‘s already a thread regarding that issue? I couldn‘t find anything.

I thought it was me. I spent over 2K for this new iPad (tax, accessories) and I have the same screen problem.

A year ago, I decided to invest heavily in the iPad because Apple's laptop line has junk keyboard--even despite the pad having lackluster software. And now I find you can't hide for Apple's hardware quality problems.

A family member who has a MacBook which has been in the for repair twice and still doesn't work properly just asked for a Chromebook. Sure, it's spyware hardware, but at least it works. It has come to this.

Someone needs to explain to Apple leadership that if we're not using their hardware, we won't be using their services. Clearly they are mitigating against this exact scenario by putting their services on other vendors' hardware, but it will always been second class citizen on other OEM devices. Plus, services requires great software and cloud, which Apple is uneven in. Ever compared load times of video or previews on Netflix vs iTunes? Apple is a joke in terms of performance.

"A billion devices in your pocket, ya'll."

2-4 year market turnover could turn Apple into Blackberry if they don't pull their act together. Apple may come to regret that line being said as Bush's "Mission Accomplished" boast.
